ORIS meeting for the Olympic Games Paris 2024

The meeting of the Weightlifting Working Group of Olympic Results and Information Services (ORIS) was held from 12 – 14 October 2022 in Montreux, Switzerland.Weightlifting was represented by IWF Executive Board Member & IF Delegate for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Matthew Curtain (remote attendance), Matyas Lencser, IWF Competition Manager and Jacqueline White, Paris 2024 Weightlifting Sport Manager. Other attendees included Project lead Nicolas Hurel (IOC Head of ORIS), and other members of the IOC ORIS, ATOS and Omega teams.The Working Group considered the implementation experiences from Tokyo 2020, defined the technical requirements to be delivered at Paris 2024, and updated the overall document in accordance with the latest IWF Technical and Competition Rules & Regulations (TCRR) and the Olympic Qualification

New Asian Records in M+109kg – Final day of the 2022 Asian Championships

The last day of the competition featured the Men 109kg, the Women +87kg and the Men +109kg categories. Men 109kg category The overall winner of the category was Rasoul Motamedi Sedeh (IRI) who at last years World Championships won the M102kg category. This time with 180kg-217kg-397kg won all the Gold medals of the category. Silver medal in all disciplines went to Bekdoolot Rasulbekov (KGZ) with 173kg-216kg-389kg, while the Amir Azizi (IRI) collected the Snatch Bronze with 166kg and Bing-Cheng Dong (TPE) took the C&J, Total Bronze medals. Men 109kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Women +87kg category In Snatch portion of the program two Kazakh teammates, Aizada Muptilda and Lyubov Kovalchuk made the two first places on the podium with 120kg and 115kg. The Snatch podium was completed by Nurul Akmal (INA) with 114kg, which was only 1kg less than at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where she placed 5th. In C&J, Muptilda once again won with three perfect lifts (147-152-157kg). This time Akmal placed 2nd with 153kg and Kovalchuk finished 3rd with151kg. Total Podium was as follows: Aizada Muptilda (KAZ) - 277kg Nurul Akmal (INA) - 267kg Lyubov Kovalchuk (KAZ) - 266kg Women +87kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Men +109kg category The 2022 Asian Championships concluded with the Men +109kg category.  We couldn't have wished for better finish to the competition as Gor Minasyan not only won 2 Gold medals (Snatch and Total) and 1 Silver (C&J) for the host country, Bahrain but also set a new Asian Record in Snatch with 210kg and in Total with 452kg. In Snatch, the 2nd place went to Tokyo 2020 Silver medalist Ali Davoudi (IRI) with 195kg and his teammate Mohsen Dadrasasl (IRI) finished 3rd with 190kg. In the last C&J of the Asian Championships Davoudi won with 243kg and while he tried to set a new Asian Record with 250kg, it was a no lift at the end. The Bronze medal of the category went once again to Dadeasasl with 217kg. Lesman and Meso – Champions of Day 8 of the 2022 Asian Championships

The program of 8th day at the 2022 Asian Championships included the Men 96kg and the Men 102kg categories, where in both categories an IWF Ambassador Athlete became the Asian Champion. Men 96kg category This was the first competition of Lesman Parades Montano current M96kg Snatch World Record holder under the nationality of Bahrain, after changing it from Colombian and also the first competition after a surgery. His result couldn't have been better as he right away won the Snatch Gold with 182kg, which was just 5 kg below his record of 187kg and then became the Asian Champion in Total with 397kg. This shows great prospects regarding his performance for the 2022 IWF World Championships which will be held in December in Bogota, Colombia. Silver Snatch medal went to Po-Jen Chen (TPE) with 177kg who placed 5th at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Finally Nurgissa Adiletuly (KAZ) finished the podium with his second lift of 172kg. In Clean&Jerk Artyom Antropov (KAZ) proved to be the strongest with 219kg. Lesman collected a Silver medal with 215kg which was his personal best at international competition. The C&J podium was completed with Chen with his third lift of 206kg. The Total Podium of the category was as follows: Lesman Paredes Montano (BRN) - 397kg Po-Jen Chen (TPE) - 383kg Artyom Antropov (KAZ) - 377kg Lesman Paredes Montano (BRN) - Snatch 1st attempt @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Men 102kg category This category featured Tokyo 2020 Champion in M96kg, Fares Elbakh, who due to the new Olympic bodyweight categories went up to 102kg.  The Gold medal in Snatch went to Sharofiddin Amriddinov (UZB), 2022 Junior World Champion in 102kg, with 172kg, Fares Elbakh (QAT) finished at 2nd place with 171kg, and Reza Dehdar took Bronze with 170kg. In C&J Amriddinov added a Bronze medal to his collection with 196kg which he lifted on his second attempt. The competition between the two strongest in C&J became interesting after both Dehdar and Elbakh made a successful first lift (202kg and 215kg). Dehdar with his team decided to increase his next lift to 230kg for which the answer of the team of Elbakh was to increase to 235kg. Of course as they weights were to big for both as it was only a strategy, Dehdar had to decrease to 221kg which he tried to lift and then 222kg on his third attempt but both were unsuccessful. As Elbakh already won with his first lift he declined all his remaining attempts and collected the Gold medal. Day 7 – 2022 Asian Championship

The seventh day featured two female categories, the Women 81kg and Women 87kg categories. Women 81kg category In the Snatch portion of the Women 81kg category the medalist were as follows: Seyedehelham Hosseini (IRI) became the Asian Champion with 102kg, second place went to Motoka Nakajima (JPN) with 100kg and the last medal of Snatch was collected by Rigina Adashbaeva (UZB) with 97kg. In Cleand&Jerk the competition was a close one between the medalist. Hosseini won another Asian Champion title with her second lift of 125kg, Aisha Omarova (KAZ) made a Silver medal finish with 124kg and Nakajima completed the podium with her lift of 123kg. Total podium of the Women 81kg category: Seyedehelham Hosseini (IRI) - 227kg Motoka Nakajima (JPN) - 223kg Aisha Omarova (KAZ) - 217kg Women 81kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Women 87kg category In the Women 87kg category, Ankhtsetseg Munkhjantsan from Mongolia became the overall winner as with her lifts of 114kg-135kg-249kg collected all three Gold medals.  The other medalist in Snatch were Tursonoy Jabborova from Uzbekistan who placed 2nd with 112kg and Ying-Yuan Lo from Chinese Taipei who finished at 3rd place with 110kg. In case of C&J the two teammates from Chinese Taipei, Lo and Chia-Hsin Tian made a podium finish with 133kg and 131kg.  Women 87kg Total Podium was as follows:  Ankhtsetseg Munkhjantsan (MGL) - 249kg Ying-Yuan Lo (TPE) - 243kg Tursunoy Jabborova (UZB) - 242kg Women 87kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting

Day 6 – 2022 Asian Championships

On day 6 of the 2022 Asian Championships the action continued with Men 89kg and the Women 76kg categories. Men 89kg category The day started with the Men 89kg category where 15 Athletes were competing for the Asian Champion titles. In Snatch, Emil Moldodosov (KGZ) won with 166kg, which was his all time best at international competition. Silver medal went to Assylzhan Bektay (KAZ) with 165kg. Mohammad Zarei (IRI) made the same best lift however as he did it later, he could only take the Bronze medal. In C&J Bektay made a winning lift of 197kg, Masoud Chatrei (IRI) went home with a Silver medal with his lift of 196kg and Moldodosov collected a Bronze with 195kg. The Total podium was as follows: Assylzhan Bektay (KAZ) – 362kg Emil Moldodosov (KGZ) – 361kg Masoud Chatraei (IRI) – 358kg Men 89kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Women 76kg category The last competition of the day was the Women 76kg category.  In Snatch, the clear winner was Cuiting Peng (CHN) whose starting lift was 17kgs more than the Silver medalist's best lift, therefore she took Gold with her only good attempt of 115kg. Darkhijav Otgonbayar (MGL) placed second with 98kg and Aray Nurlybekova (KAZ) the third with 97kg. In the C&J portion of the category once again Peng won Gold with 128kg, Silver went to Duangkamon Khongthong (THA) with 125kg, and Nurlybekova added another Bronze medal to her collection with 124kg. Fifth day of the 2022 Asian Championships

On the fifth day of competition it was time for the Women 71kg and Men 81kg categories. Women 71kg category The day started with Group B of this category and followed by the Group A where alltogether 13 athletes were competing. In the Snatch portion of the category, Chinese athlete Qiuxia Yang at her first international event since 2017 took the Gold medal with 106kg. Silver medal went to Gulnabat Kadyrova from Turkmenistan with 102kg, and Anuujin Ganzorig from Mongolia took Bronze with 99kg. In C&J, the two teammates, Tsabitha Alfiah Ramadani and Restu Anggi from Indonesia placed third and second with 118kg, 120kg. The winner was once again Yang with her second lift of 122kg. Total medalist: Qiuxia Yang (CHN) - 228kg Gulnabat Kadyrova (TKM) - 219kg Anuujin Ganzorig (MGL) - 215kg Women 71kg Total Podium @Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Men 81kg category After yesteday's B Group, the A Group finished the fifth day of competition. This session included Rahmat Erwin Abdullah Tokyo 2020 Bronze medalist and World Champion of the M73kg category. In Snatch, the Bronze medal was won by Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (INA) with his second attempt of 151kg. Mukhammadkodir Toshtemirov (UZB) placed 2nd with his first lift of 154kg, after his two last lifts were unsuccessful. The clear winner was Delin Lu (CHN) who didn't leave any chance for the others and with 165kg won the Snatch Gold. In C&J, two athletes from Uzbekistan made a the podium finish: Ogabek Tukhtaev lifted 189kg and earned Bronze, while Toshtemirov collected his second Silver of the day with 192kg. Erwin Abdullah after performing his best C&J at international competition with 198kg finished at 1st place.
