IWF Committee Meetings in Bogotá

The IWF Technical Committee and Coaching and Research Committee met before 2022 IWF World Championships in Bogotá, Colombia. At the Joint meeting IWF President, Mr. Mohammed Jalood, IWF General Secretary, Mr. Antonio Urso and IWF First Vice President, Ms. Ursula Papandrea welcomed participants and gave a small report to the Committee members. The members of the new IWF Technical Committee had a long discussion about the length of the future IWF World Championships, and the possibility of using multiple platforms. The Committee also touched upon the subject of the evaluation process of ITOs as well as innovative ideas on how to promote our beloved sport, such as beach & street weightlifting. The Coaching and Research Committee discussed various topics, among them the upcoming Coaching Seminar on 10th December 2022 in Bogotá, Colombia, the Coaching Licence that is going to be introduced in the near future. Details were shared about the Olympic Solidarity project running during the 2022 IWF World Championships. At the end a presentation was made about a World Summer Training Camp in 2023 in Paris, France as a preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic

Coaching Seminar held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic

'Olympic Weightlifting in strength and conditioning' Seminar was successfully concluded, organised by the Slovak Weightlifting Federation in partnership with the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Comenius University Bratislava. The Seminar was officially opened by Tomas Chovanec, President of the Slovak Weightlifting Federation and Professor Marián Vanderka, dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Petr Krol and Attila Adamfi, Vice Presidents welcomed the audience on behalf of the IWF as the Seminar was supported by the IWF Development Program. Lecturers and about 200 participants attended from the Czech Republic and the host country, including many students from the Comenius University. The Seminar was attended by 3 former Presidents of the Slovak Weightlifting Federation as well, Jan Stefanik, Pavol Mutafov and Dusan

IWF delegation concludes planning visit to Paris 2024

A delegation from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) compromising of General Secretary Antonio Urso and Executive Board Member and IF Delegate, Matthew Curtain have completed a two-day visit to Paris from 16 – 18 November 2022 as part of preparations for the Olympic Games in 2024. The IWF was hosted by members of the Paris 2024 Sport Department, led by Sport Competitions Director Aurélie Merle and Jacqueline White, the Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting Sport Manager for the 2024 Games. Senior representatives of the French Weightlifting Federation (FFHM), including President Michel Raynaud and first Vice-President Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes also attended a session with the IWF and Paris 2024 to discuss strategies aligned to further promoting the sport in France. The agenda for the visit included workshops on aspects including sports presentation, transport, venues and infrastructure, the Olympic Village and medical services. The group also had the opportunity to visit the South Paris 6 venue for Weightlifting, part of the Paris Expo complex, as well as the hotels proposed to accommodate IWF technical officials and the IWF Family in 2024. Speaking at the end of the visit, IF Delegate Matthew Curtain said: “This has been a very valuable and productive two days. We thank the Paris 2024 team for their hospitality and collaborative approach to working with the IWF to deliver a fantastic athlete experience as well as the best possible showcase for our sport in 2024. “The input and involvement of the FFHM is also, and will continue to be, crucial to maximizing the opportunity of these Games. LIST OF ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES FOR IWF ATHLETES’ COMMISSION PUBLISHED

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), via its appointed independent Eligibility Determination Panel, has today published the list of eligible candidates for the first IWF Athletes’ Commission elections. In total, 17 candidates representing all continents and genders will go forward to the elections, which will take place at the 2022 IWF World Championships in Bogotá, Colombia from 5-16 December 2022. It will be the first time that elections have been held for the IWF Athletes’ Commission and reflects the federation’s commitment to ensuring a strong athlete voice is represented. The IWF received 25 applications, of which three have been declared ineligible according to the Athletes’ Commission Electoral Rules and the IWF Constitution. A further six candidacies have been deemed provisionally ineligible due to non-compliance with the candidate nomination process. These candidates will be granted the right to be heard until Monday, 7 November 2022. An update on their status will be published on 9 November. Following the elections, the IWF will break new ground in athlete representation by having three athletes on the IWF Executive Board and also having three athletes as full voting members of the IWF Congress. IWF General Secretary Antonio Urso said: “It’s encouraging to see such interest and diversity among the candidates – and I thank them all for their commitment to contribute to the future of our sport. These elections represent an important milestone in our efforts to develop a truly athlete-centred culture across the IWF. I would also like to acknowledge the members of the Eligibility Determination Panel for their rigorous and important work ensuring the process is delivered to the highest levels of integrity, in line with the good governance principles set out in our new constitution.” IWF Athletes’ Commission Chair Forrester Osei added: “On behalf of the current Athletes’ Commission, I would like to congratulate all the nominated athletes and thank them for helping drive our sport forward with athletes at its heart. IWF participates in ANOC General Assembly

IWF President Mohammed Jalood and IWF Executive Board member Matthew Curtain pose in Seoul with Nigerian NOC delegate Ruth Ogbeifo, silver medallist in the Women 75kg category at the Olympic Games Sydney 2000. IWF was represented at the annual General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), which took place from 18 to 21 October in Seoul, South Korea. IWF President Mohammed Jalood and IWF Executive Board member Matthew Curtain joined delegates from all the world’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) alongside other international federation and IOC representatives. Th ANOC General Assembly is the largest global meeting in sport outside of the Olympic Games. This year’s gathering was also attended by OWF President and IWF Executive Board Member Hon. Marcus Stephen MP and AWF President and IWF Executive Board Member Mohamed Yousef Al Mana, who participated in the capacity of their roles with the Nauru and Qatar

IWF President, AWF Vice-President meets with the Jinju Organizing Committee ahead of 2024 Olympics Qualification Events

Major figures from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) visited Jinju from the 20th to the 22nd of October 2022. The visits were made by the official invitation of Jinju City and the organizing committee of the 2023 Jinju Asian Weightlifting Championships for promoting Jinju City's charm and discussing agendas to successfully host the Events. A total of eight figures were invited including Mohammed Hasan JALOOD, president of the IWF, Abdullah Mohammed JARMAL, Vice President of the AWF, and Sung-Yong CHOI, President of the KWF. Kyoo-il CHO, Mayor of Jinju city, prepared a discussion table and hosted the figures at the city hall's general business room on the 21st. "As the coming Championships is the first official international sports event in Jinju and an flagship competition to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, we will perform our best excellency in the preparation," he said. "We ask for the warm attention and support from the president of the IWF, vice president of the AWF, and president of the KWF so that all federal members of the Asian Weightlifting can join the event.” "IWF will endeavor various ways to help North Korea participate in the 2023 Jinju Asian Weightlifting Championships.
