Weightlifting
Was established on 12th January 1992, in Paris (France), to pay due tribute to the sport's most prominent representatives.
The Founder – and at the same time President – of the Hall of Fame is Frenchman Alain Lunzenfichter, a journalist of great international renown, Former Chairman of the A.I.P.S. Weightlifting Commission, Chairman of the IWF Press Commission, Honorary Member of the IWF Executive Board.
The Board of Trustees of the Weightlifting Hall of Fame is composed of top officials of the IWF.
Every year, the Board of Trustees shall nominate members for election.
Nominees may be athletes, coaches, officials, journalists, sponsors. Only persons so nominated may be elected. Any representative of an IWF member country is entitled to be awarded membership. It takes 50% plus one vote of the Board of Trustees to be elected. The number of members elected to the Hall of Fame cannot exceed ten per year.
Nominated may be
1 - Athletes having been retired for at least 5 years
2 - Coaches having worked for weightlifting for at least 25 years
3 - Officials with at least 25 years of service in weightlifting
4 - Individuals having significantly assisted the weightlifting sport
