RIM stepped up her games

The North Korean RIM Jong Sim won the women's 76kg bodyweight category competition on Tuesday at the Senior World Championships in Pattaya, THA. The 2019 Asian Champion and Silver Medallist at last year’s WWC gained a significant advance in the Snatch over her biggest rival, 2018 World Champion of the W71 category, ZHANG Wangli, who got to 118kg, while the PRK athlete performed 124kg, breaking her own World Record. In the Clean and Jerk ZHANG gained the upper hand with 153kg, but this wasn’t enough to overtake RIM who won the Total Gold with 152kg. Eighth Gold for China

China now won in 8 bodyweight categories (men and women) so far at the 2019 IWF World Championships in Pattaya. On the seventh day of the competition, TIAN Tao stood on the top podium. In the Snatch, the Bronze Medallist at this years European Championships, PLIESNOI Anton (GEO) was first with 181kg, who up until a couple of years ago, represented Ukraine. TIAN, an Olympic and World Championships Silver Medallist finished his attempts 1kg behind PLIESNOI and 2019 Junior World Champion Silver Medallist, RIVAS MOSQUERA Jhonatan was third with 179kg. In the Clean and Jerk, TIAN won with 230kg, which was less than his personal best but still earned him the Total Gold as well. The Silver in this lift and Total went to ELBAKH Farres Ibrahim E. H. (224, 402). Iranian MOUSAVIJARAHI Seyedayoob pocketed the Clean and Jerk Bronze (214kg) while PLIESNOI Anton stepped on the third podium with a Total result of 394kg. Nine medals, six medallists

The nine medals were split between six lifters in the men’s 89kg bodyweight category today in Pattaya. In the tight competition in the Snatch, Georgian DAVITADZE Revaz proved to be the best with 172kg cutting ahead of Belarus and Venezuelan rivals, who both lifted the same, 169kg: BERSANAU Aliaksandr and VALLENILLA SANCHEZ Keydomar Giovanni. The latter broke the Junior World record. In the Clean and Jerk, three new names came up and the winner of the B group, Japanese YAMAMOTO Toshiki won the gold with 208kg, while the Silver Medal went to MKRTCHYAN Hakob (ARM) with the same result and MIRI Ali (IRI) took home the Bronze, performing 207kg. Double victory for the USA in W71!

It is the first time in 40 years, that two women stood on the podium on a World Championships! NYE Katherina Elizabeth and ROGERS Martha Ann wrote their names in the history books in the women's 71kg competition on the sixth day of the WWC in Pattaya. NYE swiped all three gold medals and ROGERS earned two Silver and a Bronze Medal, adding them to her collection of 4 other medals from World Championships. The only 20-years-old NYE is the youngest American woman to become a World Champion in the sport of weightlifting. NYE, who won the Junior World Championships this year in Fiji, started with a failed attempt but came back to lift 107kg and 112kg, which did not only earn her the Gold in the Snatch but is also a Junior World Record. ROGERS finished at 106kg and between the two Americans, KIM Hyo Sim (PRK) with 110kg. In the Clean and Jerk, KIM who suffered from a leg injury got stuck at 120kg and the 6th place, but clinged the Bronze Medal in Total with 230kg. The two Americans fought their own battle for the first place, and NYE won again, who could manage 136kg while ROGERS got the Silver with 134kg. DENG Wei took it all with World Records

DENG Wei broke the World Records five times and defended her World Champion title in the women’s 64kg bodyweight category. The 26-years-old Chinese, who already held the World Records in both lifts and in Total when she arrived in Pattaya, performed 3 excellent lifts in the Snatch and ended her lifts with improving her best from 115kg to 116kg. The Olympic Champion in 2016 DENG didn’t settle for less in the Clean and Jerk either: with her second attempt she improved her World Record to 143kg than proceeded to 145kg. With these results, she also broke the Total record, settling it at 261kg. Now she owns 14 Worlds medals. RIM Un Sim (PRK) finished behind her and collected all three Silver Medals (114, 137, 251), while the Snatch and Total Bronze Medals went to TOMA Roledana-Elena (112, 240). In the Clean and Jerk, Columbian PEREZ TIGRERO Mercedes Isabel (132) finished. LYU Xiaojun is five-time World Champion at the age of 35

Chinese LYU Xiaojun triumphed in the men’s 81kg battle on the fifth day of the World Championships. The 35-years-old who previously won four golds and came to Pattaya as a title defender, finished at 171kg in the Snatch, achieving the result before his compatriot, LI Dayin. This was LYU’s 17th medal on a World Championships and his 10th World title. LYU continued the spectacular performance in the Clean and Jerk: although LI, who held the Total World Record with 375kg, cleaned 206kg, but LYU – despite having obvious back pains – broke the World Record and set it at 207kg, winning the gold for both this lift and the Total (378kg), which is also a new World Record. The two Chinese put a huge margin between them and the rest of the participants, and the others could only compete for the Bronze Medals. In the Snatch, KARAPETYAN Andranik (ARM) was third with 168kg, while in the Clean and Jerk, first in the B session, Bulgarian BEYTULA Yunder Nedim could stand on the third podium(201kg). In Total, the Bronze Medal went to Columbian RODALLEGAS CARVAJAL Brayan Santiago
