Overwhelming victory by SHI

The five-times World Champion Chinese athlete, SHI Zhiyong achieved an overwhelming victory in the men’s 73kg bodyweight category on the fourth day of the IWF World Championships in Pattaya. The 25-year-old only came out for his first attempt in the Snatch when the other participants were done. He finished at 166kg, 2kg under his personal best and gained 9kg advantage over his competitors. Silver Medal went to the Bulgarian lifter, ANDREEV Bozhidar Dimitrov with 157kg followed by Albanian CALJA Briken. The one man show continued in the Clean and Jerk, performed by SHI who cleaned 197kg at his second attempt, improving his own World Record to 197kg and his Total Record to 363kg. Chinese Taipei defended its title in women’s 59kg

KUO Hsing-Chun (TPE) defended her World Champion title this Saturday on the World Championships in Pattaya. The Asian Champion, who won at the Worlds two times in a row, was defeated in the Snatch by her North-Korean rival, Rio Olympics Silver Medallist CHOE Hyo Sim, who broke KUO’s World Record in this lift and set a new one at 107kg. In the Clean and Jerk, KUO proved that she was the one who dominated the field: although CHOE broke her two World Records, with 138kg in this lift and 245 in Total, KUO immediately took back both Records and settled them at 140kg and 246kg, clinging both Gold Medals. LIAO cleaned World Record

LIAO Qiuyun (CHN) gained the World Champion title in the women’s 55kg bodyweight category on the third day of the World Championships in Pattaya. The Silver Medallist was ZHANG Wanqiong. The 2018 World Champion ZHANG finished at 99kg in the Snatch, cutting 1kg ahead of her compatriot, 2019 Asian Champion LIAO. In the Clean and Jerk, the table turned between the two, LIAO broke her own World Record and raised the bar from 128kg to 129kg, earning the gold for this lift and Total. DIAZ Hidilyn, the most decorated lifter of the Philippines stood on the third podium, who was Silver Medallist at the Rio Olympic Games and has several Word Championship medals. Kazakh CHINSHANLO Zulfiya was a strong competitor for DIAZ, who ended up on the fourth place. Two Senior, seven Junior World Records

Chinese CHEN Lijun defended his World Champion title in Total at the World Championships in Thailand on Friday, achieving this despite he was not first in either of the lifts. In the Snatch, the 26-years-old Chinese finished at 150kg, but ISMAYILOV Daniyar (TUR) performed the same before him. Surprisingly, the gold went to the winner of the B group, also Chinese FENG Lyudong. In the Clean and Jerk, ISMAYILOV didn't perform well, but CHEN and PAK Jong Ju (PRK) fought a rather close battle. The Chinese lifter bettered his own World Record from 185kg to 187kg at his third lift, but PAK topped this at his final attempt and cleaned 188kg. This way, North-Korea won this lift, and third behind CHEN, the 20-years-old ERGASHEV Adkhamjon (UZB) with 182kg. Ont he way, ERGASHEV set not less than 7 Junior World Records. LI Fabin seized the Gold from IRAWAN

In the men’s 61kg, Indonesian 2018 winner IRAWAN Eko Yuli was dethroned by Chinese Li Fabin, who also set new World Records in the Snatch and Total on the way. The triple Gold Medallist Chinese set the World Record at 145kg in the first lift and 318kg in Total. Moreover, previously IRAWAN was holding the Record for the latter. For everyone's surprise, the other Chinese participant, third on last years World Championship, QUINN Fulin bombed out in the Snatch, he consoled with a Clean and Jerk Bronze. Behind LI and IRAWAN in Total, MOSQUERA VALENCIA Francisco Antonio came in third with 302kg, after finishing second in the Clean and Jerk with 170kg after the World Champion LI

Chinese success with World Records

Chinese winners were announced in the women’s 49kg bodyweight category at the World Championships in Thailand on Thursday: HOU Zhiu won the Snatch and JIANG Huihua won in Total. In the first lift, HOU completed 94kg first, clinching the Gold Medal from JIANG who had the same result. The Bronze Medal both in the Snatch and Total went to PRK lifter, RI song Gum.  It shows the strength of the field, that 2017 World Champion MIRAGAI Chanu Saikhom (INA) could not achieve a medal. The 17-year-old AISAH Windy’s performance should be highlighted too, who bested her own Youth World Record from 81kg to 82kg, than her Clean and Jerk record to 100kg, and the Total to 182kg. The battle of the Chinese continued in the Clean and Jerk and Bronze Medallist last year, JIANG ended up gaining the upper hand. First, HOU set a new World Record in Total after cleaning 117kg. This only lasted a couple of minutes, as JIANG managed 118kg, setting the World Record at 212kg in this bodyweight
