Day 9 – 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

On day 9 of the 2021 IWF World Championships the action continued with the Women 81kg and Men 102kg categories. Women 81kg Category The first A session of the day was the Women 81kg which started at 16:00 local time. The group featured the current Junior C&J and Total World Record holder Eileen Cikamatana from Australia. In Snatch based on the starting weights Eileen Cikamatana and Alina Marushchak (UKR) had the best chance at winning Gold. The other medal contenders were Iseul Kim (KOR) and Valeria Rivas Mosquera from Colombia. Mosquera and Kim both started at 105kg which they both managed. Then came Cikamatana with 108kg however her first 2 lifts were 'no lifts'. As Kim lifted 108kg and Cikamatana could only lift it on her last attempt, the Australian got the Bronze medal and Kim won Silver. Mosquera went for 109kg on her second and last attempt but was unsuccessful. The absolute winner of Snatch was Alina Marushchak from Ukraine who went 3 from 3 with 108-111-113 and won Gold. In the Clean&Jerk portion of the program Alina Marushchak (UKR) did it again. With her second attempt of 135kg she won Gold. Valeria Rivas Mosquera (COL) and Dayana Aracelis Chirinos Leon (VEN) both lifted 134kg as their best lift but as the Colombian did it first, she won Silver and consequently Bronze went to Chirinos Leon. The biggest suprise of the session was Eileen Cikamatana not making a successful lift in C&J. In Total Alina Marushchak (UKR) won with 113-135-348, Valeria Rivas Mosquera (COL) took Silver with 105-134-239.  The last podium place went to Iseul Kim (KOR) with 108-130-238. Alina Marushchak (UKR) @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 102kg Category In Snatch Samvel Gasparyan from Armenia finished at third place with only one 'good lift' of 175kg. Rasoul Motamedi Sedeh (IRI) first missed 170kg but his second attempt was successful and then he also lifted 177kg and with this lift he won Silver. Tokyo 2020 Olympian in M109kg, Yunseong Jin (KOR) won the session with his second lift of 180kg. In Clean&Jerk four athletes were in competing for the medals. The absolute winner of C&J was Rasoul Motamedi Sedeh (IRI) who on his last attempt lifted 220kg. Bekdoolot Rasulbekov (KGZ), who placed 6th at the Tokyo Olympics in M96kg, finished at second place with a last lift of 217kg. Bronze medal was decided between Amir Hoghoughiosgouei (IRI) and Yunseong Jin (KOR). First Hoghoughiosgouei lifted 210kg successfully and set his next lift at 216kg, the same weight Jin started. As Jin missed his first attempt it gave the chance to Hoghoughiosgouei to have the advantage over the Korean athlete. Hoghoughiosgouei took the opportunity and successfully lifted 216kg. Jin also had a good lift of 216kg but as none of them managed their last attempts, Hoghoughiosgouei won Bronze. Total podium was as follows: Amir Hoghoughiosgouei (IRI) won Bronze with 172-216-388. Yunseong Jin (KOR) took Silver with 180-216-396 and Rasoul Motamedi Sedeh (IRI) finished at 1st place with 177-220-397. Men 102kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships In the 102kg category only 2 athletes competed. Rashed Quran (CAN) won the M102kg category of the Commonwealth Championships with 330kg in Total. Jack Anthony Madanamoothoo (MRI) completed the podium with the Silver medal with a 306kg Total. World Record for Colombia – Day 8 at the 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

On the 8th day of competition of the 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships the program continued with the Men 96kg and Women 76kg categories. Men 96kg Category The category featured all medallist of Tokyo in M96kg. Fares Ibrahim E.H. Elbakh (QAT) and Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez (VEN) competed in Group A, while Anton Pliesnoi (GEO) competed in Group B.   In Snatch, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Silver medallist, Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez (VEN) went 3 from 3 and with 172-175-177kg won the Bronze medal. Boady Robert Santavy (CAN) who placed 5th at this summer's Olympics took Silver with his successful third attempt of 178kg. When all the other athletes finished, came Lesman Paredes Montano (COL) with his first attempt of 180kg. He did a good lift and the crowd was waiting what his next attempt will be as the Snatch World Record set at 186kg. With his team they decided not to wait and do another lift below the world record and went to break it right away on his second attempt.  The weight sat at 187kg. The pressure was high but with an impressive lift he became the new World Record Holder of Snatch in M96kg with 187kg and furthermore won Gold. Lesman Montano Paredes (COL) after his new Snatch World Record of 187kg in M96kg @IWF/Isaac Morillas In Clean&Jerk, Fares Ibrahim E.H. Elbakh (QAT) proved to be the strongest with his second attempt of 222kg and won Gold. Artyom Antropov (KAZ) clinched Silver with 221kg and Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez (VEN) won Bronze with 214kg. In Total, Lesman Paredes Montano (COL) finished at first place with 400kg, Tokyo 2020 Gold medallist, Fares Ibrahim E. H. Elbakh (QAT) won Silver with 394kg and Tokyo 2020 Silver medallist, Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez (VEN) finished the podium with 391kg. Men 96kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships Boady Robert Santavy won the Commonwealth Championships in Men 96kg category with 379kg and directly qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.  Antonis Martasidis (CYP) won Silver with 343kg and Vikas Thakur (IND) clinched the Bronze medal with 339kg.  Commonwealth Championships Men 96kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Women 76kg Category The day finished with the Women 76kg category.  In Snatch, the 2021 Junior World Champion, Iana Sotieva (RWF) won Gold with a successful second attempt of 112kg. She lifted the same weight at this years European Championships were she placed 2nd. Silver went to Laura Nascimento Amaro (BRA) who went 3 from 3 without a mistake and lifted 108kg as her best attempt. Martha Ann Rogers (USA), Tokyo 2020 Olympian in W87kg finished the podium with her second attempt of 107kg.  In Clean&Jerk Min Ji Lee finished first place with a third attempt of 139kg. Her teammate tried to lift 140kg to clinch first place but after her first good lift of 134kg, she didn't manage a successful lift and therefore won the Bronze medal.  The last medal went to Mattie Rogers who placed second with her third attempt of 136kg. Total podium was as follows: Min Ji Lee (KOR) won Gold with 244kg, Mattie Rogers (USA) placed second with 243kg and Bronze went to Iana Sotieva (RWF) with 242kg. Women 76kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships In the Women 76kg category the Gold went to Maya Celeste Laylor (CAN) with the Total of 229kg and therefore directly qualified for next year’s Commonwealth Games. First Ever World Record for Nigeria – Day 7 at the 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

Todays program featured the Men 89kg and Women 71kg categories here in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on the 7th day of competition of the IWF World Championships. Men 89kg Category In the first A session of the day we witnessed great performances and sadly injuries as well.  In Snatch all medallist went 3 from 3 without any mistakes in their lifts. Gold went to Andrenik Karapetyan (ARM) with 167-172-175 and Revaz Davitadze won Silver with 165-168-171. For long, the local Sarvar Zafarjonov and RWF athlete, Roman Chepik were also in fight for the Silver medal but their last attempt of 169kg were 'no lifts'. At the end, Tokyo 2020 8th place athlete in M96kg, Dongju Yu (KOR) won the Bronze medal with 160-165-167. In Clean&Jerk, the Snatch Gold medallist Andranik Karapetyan sadly got injured in his first attempt however he did not retire from the competition. He tried to do one good lift but he didn't manage to do so. Dongju Yu (KOR) just like in Snatch, won the Bronze medal with 204kg. To the hapiness of the home crowd, Sarvarbek Zafarjonov won Silver with 205kg, while Artem Okulov (RWF) lifted the same weight just before the Uzbek therefore won the Gold medal.   In Total there was only 1kg difference between 1st and 3rd place athletes. Tokyo 2020 Olympian Dongju Yu (KOR) won with 371kg while Sarvarbek Zafarjonov (UZB) had the same total however as he lifted his C&J later than Yu, he placed second. Bronze went to Revaz Davitadze (GEO) with 370kg. Men 89kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships In the Men 89kg category Alex Bellemarre (CAN) won Gold with the Total of 350kg and directly qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. His teammate Braydon Kennedy (CAN) won Silver with 335kg, while Beau James Garrett (AUS) completed the podium with a 301kg Total. Commonwealth Championships Men 89kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Women 71kg Category Earlier in the day in Group B the crowd witnessed the very first Youth World Record of Nigeria in weightlifting by Joy Ogbonne Eze. She has already broken the C&J Youth World Record during her second attempt with 127kg however on her third attempt she lifted 130kg. With that lift she not only beat her own record in C&J but broke the Youth Total World Record as well. In the Group A Session, in Snatch the athletes were going neck-to-neck which was also proved by the fact that all medallist lifted the same weight of 104kg as their best good attempt. Evgeniia Guseva (RWF) won Gold as she lifted 104kg first, then came this years Junior World Champion Olivia Lynn Reeves (USA) and won Silver. Patricia Caroline Strenius (SWE) completed the podium with the Bronze medal. In Clean&Jerk, to everyones suprise Joy Ogbonne Eze (NGR) from Group B won Bronze with her Youth World Record C&J of 130kg. Sarah Davies (GBR) went 3 from 3 and with her last lift of 132kg clinched the Silver medal. Meredith Leigh Alwine (USA), this years Pan-Am Champion with a successful second attempt of  135kg won the Gold medal. In Total Meredith Leigh Alwine (USA) won with 235kg, Sarah Davies (GBR), Tokyo 2020 Olympian took Silver with 234kg and Patricia Caroline Strenius (SWE) finished with 231kg and therefore won Bronze.  Women 71kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships Joy Ogbonne Eze (NGR), the new Youth World Record holder in C&J and Total won with 230kg in Total and therefore qualified for next year's Commonwealth Games. Gold for Egypt and First World Records – Day 6 at the IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

On the 6th day of the competition the action continued with the Women 64kg and Men 81kg categories.  Women 64kg Category In Snatch Naema Said Fahmi Said (EGY) dominated the field. Her starting lift of 100kg already won her the Gold medal. She then went 3 from 3, and finished with a good lift of 106kg. Jian Han (KOR) after two unsuccessful attempt of 99kg, finished her last attempt with the same weight and won Silver. Bronze went to Wen-Huei Chen with a first successful lift of 97kg. In Clean&Jerk, the Snatch Bronze medallist Wen-Huei Chen(TPE) proved to be the stongest and won Gold with 3 from 3 (126-131-135). Naema Said Fahmi Said (EGY) also started stong however after her first two successful attempt (124 and 127kg) she could not manage her last attempt of 132kg and therefore took second place. RWF athlete, Anastasiia Anzorova finished the C&J podium with a 121kg second attempt. In Total Naema Said Fahmi Said (EGY) won with 233 kg, Wen-Huei Chen (TPE) took the Silver with 232 kg and Minkyung Park (KOR) the Bronze with 217kg. Women 64kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships – Women 64kg In the Women 64kg category  Sarah Maureen Cochrane (AUS) won the Gold medal of the Commonwealth Championships with 210kg and furthermore the qualifying spot for next years Commonwealth Games. Second place went to Rachel Anne Siemens (CAN) with 195kg in Total and third place went to Yasmin Stevens Zammit (MLT) with the Total of 187kg. Commonwealth Championships Women 64kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 81kg Category After China cancelled their participation due to the ongoing pandemic the field was left open for the competing athletes.  One of the biggest prospect of the field was the still Youth athlete, Karlos May Hasan Nasar (BUL). From his starting weight of 163kg we could already predict that he will try to beat his own Youth World Record. Furthermore the Junior World Record was also in close proximity. Already on his second attempt the new Youth World Record was secured with 166kg. During his last attempt he also tried to beat the Junior and Youth Record with a 169kg attempt but finally it was a no lift. However this was not enough to win the Gold medal. Robu Marin (MDA) who was placed 8th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this summer in M73kg, proved to be the strongest among the athletes with a 168kg Snatch which he lifted on his last attempt and therefore won Gold. Bronze went to Mir Mostafa Javadi Aliabadi (IRI) with 163kg. In Clean&Jerk it was all about Nasar. Just like in Snatch his starting C&J put him is close proxomity to not only the Youth and Junior World Record but to the Senior one as well, which was hold by Lyu Xiaojun (CHN).  Already on his second attempt he broke the Youth Total World record (371kg) with a 205kg C&J. And then came his last attempt. He increased to 208kg which was considered as a new World Record attempt in Senior/Junior/Youth C&J and furthermore with a good lift he would also secure the Junior and Youth Total World Record. The pressure was big but Nasar provided the most impressive performance of the night when he lifted 208kg and not only won Gold in C&J but with just one lift he broke 5 World Records. Silver went to Mir Mostafa Javadi Aliabadi (IRI) with a successful third attempt of 204kg and Woo Jae Kim (KOR) won Bronze with a 196kg C&J. The Total podium was as follows: Karlos May Hasan Nasar (BUL) won the Gold with 374kg (Junior and Youth Total World Record), Mir Mostafa Javadi Aliabadi (IRI) took Siver with 367kg and Marin Robu (MDA) completed the podium with 363kg.   Men 81kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships  The podium of the 2021 Commonwealth Championships was already known by the time the Group A started to lift at the World Championships. Ajay Singh (IND) with a 322kg Total secured the Gold medal which also meant that he can represent his nation at next year's Commonwealth Games. Second place went to Kyle John Ryan Christopher Park Bruce (AUS) with 316kg and Chinthana Geetal Vidanage Vidanage (SRI) took Bronze with 300kg in Total.    Commonwealth Championships Men 81kg Podium @IWF/Steve

Day 5 – 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

The 5th day of the competition featured the Women 59kg (A/B/C) and the Men 81kg (C) categories. Next to the Women 59kg, the Men 81kg category also started its competition with the 'C' Group. The 'A' and 'B' Group will compete tomorrow on 12 December 2021.  Women 59kg Category The Women 59kg category featured the Gold and the Silver medallist of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Kuo Hsing-Cun (TPE) and Polina Guryeva (TKM). The Snatch program started with a surprise, when Polina Guryeva (TKM) the Tokyo 2020 Silver medallist of the category bombed out. She later also retired from the competition. The medals were decided between Olga Te (RWF), Mariia Hanhur (UKR) and the Tokyo 2020 Gold medallist, Kuo Hsing-Chun (TPE) hovewer until the last attempt of Yenny Fernanda Alvarez Caicedo (COL) she was also in fight for the medals. Olga Te (RWF) started at 95kg and then went 3 from 3 (95-98-100) and won the Bronze medal. We also witnessed the first upset of the competition. Mariia Hanhur (UKR) won Gold in Snatch with 101kg after Kuo's last lift of 102kg was unsuccessful and therefore she won the Silver medal. From the Clean&Jerk session of the program Kuo took over the competition. She went 3 from 3 (125-128-130) and won Gold. Silver and Bronze were decided between the two Colombian of the group. After two unsuccessful attempt, Rosive Andrea Silgado Atencio lifted 120kg and secured the Bronze medal, after neither Olga Te (RWF) nor Ine Drablos Andersson (NOR) managed the same weight. Silver went to Yenny Fernanda Alvarez Caicedo with 127kg which she lifted on her last attempt. In Total, Kuo Hsing-Chun (TPE) won Gold with 230kg, Silver went to Yenny Fernanda Alvarez Caicedo (COL) with 226kg and Olga Te (RWF) completed the podium with 218kg and won Bronze. With Kuo's Gold she became the absolute winner of her category in 2021. She not only won all the big international events of the year but currently holds all senior world records in W59kg. Women 59kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships - Women 59kg In the Women 59kg category Rafiatu Folashade Lawal (NGR) won the Gold medal of the Commonwealth Championships, furthermore the qualifying spot for the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a 207 kg Total. Second place went to Popy Hazarika (IND) with 189kg in Total and third place went to Mudiyanselage N S Rajapaksha Rajapaksha (SRI) with the Total of 164 kg. Day 4 – 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

The fourth day of the competition featured the Men 67kg and Men 73kg categories. Men 67kg Category In the Men 67kg among the lifters we had the current Junior World Record holder , the Youth World Record holder and also Tokyo 2020 Olympians. In the Snatch portion of the program, based on the starting weights Luis Javier Mosquera Lozano (COL) had the biggest chance of winning Gold however he surprisingly bombed out. As the Colombian could not manage a good lift in Snatch, 3 athletes were fighting for first place and the medals. One of them was Talha Talib (PAK) who was placed 5th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this summer. He started at 143kg however after the first successful lift he could not manage another one therefore he won Bronze at the end. The Uzbek Doston Yokubov started with the promising 140kg and after went to 143kg but was unsuccessful and then on the third attempt with a good lift of 144kg won the Silver medal. Zulfat Garaev (RWF) started at 142kg then lifted 146kg in his second attempt but failed his last attempt of 148kg. However, 146kg was enough for winning Gold in the category. In Clean&Jerk, the Snatch Bronze medalist Talib bombed out, and the Colombian Luis Javier Mosquera Lozano retired from the competition before his first lift. In front of the home crowd the two Uzbek athletes, Doston Yokubov and Adkhamjon Ergashev provided us with a great show. Ergashev started at 168kg and then lifted 174kg on his second attempt. As he failed his last attempt he won the Bronze in C&J. The other two medals were decided between the two strongest in the field Doston Yokubov and the Colombian Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia. Yokubov achieved 3 from 3 with 172kg-176kg-180kg. The first place was relying on whether Mosquera could manage his last attempt of 181kg. The local crowd was anxiously waiting for the last lift of the session. Mosquera could have won his first World Champion title but failed to do so as he could not manage 181kg. With that Mosquera won Silver and Yokubov the Gold. In Total Doston Yokubov (UZB) won Gold with 324kg, Silver went to Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia (COL) with 316kg and Zulfat Garaev (RWF) finished the podium with 315kg. Men 67kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships – Men 67kg In the Men 67kg category Lalrinnunga Jeremy (IND), the current Youth World Record holder won the Gold medal of the Commonwealth Championships and furthermore the qualifying spot for the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a 305kg Total, after Talib Talha (PAK) bombed out in C&J in Group A. Second place went to Joseph Umoafia Edidiong (NGR) with 295kg in Total and third place went to Upasakalage Manoj Maduwantha Wije Appuwa (SRI) with the Total of 254kg. Commonwealth Championships Men 67kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 73kg Category The last session of the day featured the Men 73kg category. In Snatch, the medals were decided between Sergei Petrov (RWF), Suttipong Jeeram (THA) and Briken Calja (ALB) who placed 4th at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Petrov went 3 from 3 (144kg-149kg-153kg) and won Bronze. Jeeram and Calja were fighting for the first place as both lifted 154kg on their second attempt and went for the same weight on their third. Suttipong started first but was unsuccessful with 156kg so everyone was waiting whether Calja could manage the lift. Finally Calja showed consistency and achieved 3 from 3 and won the Gold medal.  In Clean&Jerk the medals were decided between Hansol Jeong (KOR), Briken Calja (ALB) and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (INA) who was the Bronze medalist of this years Olympic Games. Jeong after the first successful lift of  181kg failed both his second and third attempt therefore won the Bronze medal in C&J. The fight between Cajla and Abdullah got really exciting when both of them lifted 186kg on their second attempt so everything came down to their last ones. In order, Calja came first and tried to finish his competition with 190kg but it was a no lift. This also meant that Abdullah already won the Gold medal in C&J before his last attempt. In order to also won the Total Gold medal, Abdullah focused on his last attempt of 192kg which he impressively managed. In Total Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (INA) won Gold with 343kg, Silver went to Briken Calja(ALB) with 342kg and Suttipong Jeeram (THA) finished in third place with 334kg in Total. Men 73kg Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Commonwealth Championships In the Commonwealth Championships, Achinta Sheuli from India won the Gold in Total and therefore qualified for next year’s Commonwealth Games. Silver was won by Erry Hidayat Muhammad from Malaysia, and Mudiyanselage Indika Chathur Dissanayake from Sri Lanka won the Bronze.
