Day 7 – 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

The seventh day of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships featured the Men 96kg and Women 81kg categories Men 96kg Category In Snatch, Egypt, Moldova and Armenia finished at medal positions. Yasser USAMA HEMDAN with 157kg already at his first international event won a Bronze medal. Last years Silver medalist in 89kg category, Tudor BRATU won Silver with 163kg and Garik KARAPETYAN, last years World Champion of the category won Gold with 170kg. In Clean&Jerk, the medalist were the same athletes, just in different order. Karapetyan finished third with 200kg which was a new best at international competition for him. Bratu once again took Silver with 201kg and Usama clinched Gold with 202kg. The order of the Total medals repeated the Snatch podium: Karapetyan finished at first place with 370kg and defended his title, Bratu won Silver medal with 364kg and Usama took Bronze with 359kg. Men 96kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Women 81kg Category In Snatch Emmy Lizette GONZALEZ VELASQUEZ (MEX) won Gold with her successful second attempt of 100kg, Dilara NARIN (TUR) took Silver with 99kg and Fatma Mohamed Sadek AHMED (EGY) finished third with the same weight - 99kg - but as she lifted it later she could only place as the Bronze medalist. We saw quite a few no lift in the Clean&Jerk portion of the program but the Snatch medalist showed a performance which earned them the C&J medals. This time Narin finished at first place with 131kg, Gonzalez became the Silver medalist with 127kg andd Ahmed won her second Bronze medal of the day with 122kg. In Total, Narin won Gold with 230kg, Gonzalez took Silver with 227kg and the last medal of the day went to Ahmed with 221kg. Day 6 – 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

Day 6 of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships featured the Women 76kg and Men 89kg categories. Women 76kg Category The Overall winner of the category was Bella Nancy PAREDES ARREAGA from Ecuador who previously won Silver at last years IWF Junior World Championships in 76kg.  In Snatch Paredes went 3 for 3 and with 104kg easily won Gold medal. Duangkamon KHONGTHONG (THA) finished at second place at her first international event with 97kg and Dilara UCAN (TUR) completed the Snatch podium with 96kg. In Clean&Jerk, just like in Snatch Paredes went 3 for 3 (125-128.-131kg) and with that collected her second World Champion title. Second place went to Daniela IVANOVA (LAT) with 127kg which was a personal best at international competition. Dilara UCAN,after her Snatch Bronze collected another one in C&J with 125kg. In Total, Paredes collected her 3rd Gold of the day with 235kg, Ivanova took Silver with 222kg and Khongthong finished third with only 1kg less, 221kg. Women 76kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 89kg Category In Snatch, with the victory of Mahmoud GAMAL MOHAMED ABDELAZIZ (EGY), Egypt won their first Gold medal in male categories at the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships. Gamal went 3-from-3 (147-151-154kg) and with only 1kg difference from the other 2 medalist, got the Gold. At second and third place the lifted weight was the same (155kg) however as Maksym DOMBROVSKYI (UKR) lifted it first he got the Silver medal and Suren GRIGORYAN (ARM) took Bronze. In Clean&Jerk, almost all the athletes failed their last attempts. Suren GRIGORYAN (ARM) even though his last attempt was a no lift, finished at third place with 185kg. Khojiakbar OLIMOV (UZB), last years Bronze medalist in 81kg category finished second place with 188kg and Ukraine's first victory of the Championships was brought by Maksym DOMBROVSKYI with 190kg which he lifted on his first attempt and then declined the rest of his attempts. The last podium (Total) of the day was as follows:  Dombrovskyi won Gold with 345kg, Grigoryan got Silver with 340kg and Gamal finished third with 339kg. Day 5 – 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

Day 5 of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships featured the Men 81kg (Group A and B) and the Women 71kg (Group A and B) categories. Men 81kg Category At 3PM local time, the A finals of the day started with the Men 81kg Category. For majority of the lifters it was their first opportunity to show their performances at international level. In Snatch, last years Youth World Championships Bronze medalist, Hakan KURNAZ (TUR) won with 150kg which he lifted on his second attempt. He also tried to lift 153kg, which would have been his personal best at international competition, but unfortunately it was a no lift. At his first international competititon, Yegor SHERER (KAZ) with 149kg got the Silver medal. The last medal of Snatch went to Ertjan KOFSHA (ALB) with 146kg. In the Clean&Jerk portion of the program the competititon was on between Saba ASANIDZE (GEO), Mahmoud HOSNY ELSAYED (EGY) and Denis POLUBOYARINOV (KAZ). Hosny started at 173kg which he could only manage on his second attempt. Poluboyarinov followed with 175kg and Asanidze finished his first attempt of 176kg successfully. On their next try both Asanidze and Poluboyarinov increased to 181kg which only the Kazakh athlete could manage. Hosny followed with 182kg as his last attempt and with that it was sure that he will medal in the category. At this point the last two lifts of the competition was left for the Kazakh and Georgian athlete. First came Asanidze who lifted a successful last attempt of 183kg. Poluboyarinov had the last lift of the session with 185kg. He managed the lift and the majority of the Referees deemed it as a Good lift, however the Jury asked for a review. After looking back the footage of the lift they made the decision to reverse the referees decision. Even though the coach of Poluboyarinov challenged the decision, the Jury stayed with their previous conclusion and finally it was a no lift. The medals were as follows: Poluboyarinov won the Bronze medal, Hosny Elsayed finished second and the winner of the category was Asanidze. Not a common situation occured in the Total results as all the medalist achieved the same Total of 324kg, therefore the time order of the Totals played a role in the placement of the athletes. Hakan KURNAZ (TUR) won Gold, Mahmoud HOSNY ELSAYED (EGY) took Silver and Saba ASANIDZE (GEO) finished third. Men 81kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Women 71kg Category The last competition of the day was of the Women 71kg category which started at 6PM local time. Among the athletes were Olivia REEVES (USA) last years Junior World Champion of the category, and Neama SAID (EGY) 2021 Senior World Champion of the W64kg category. Bronze medal in Snatch went to Aysel OZKAN (TUR) with 101kg, which was exactly same best lift of hers as at last years Junior World Championships. The big question was who would win the Snatch Gold, the current Junior World Champion or the Senior World Champion of 64kg category. Neama SAID (EGY) started at 100kg while Olivia REEVES (USA) increased to 103kg. After that Said did 104kg and Revees kept her advantage of 1kg through all lift after her first. They both went 3 from 3 and with 106kg Said won Silver and the victory went to Reeves with 107kg. For Revees it was the best Snatch at international level, while Said matched her Snatch from the 2021 IWF World Championships. In the Clean&Jerk portion of the program based on the first entries, 4 athletes were in competition for the medals. Among those four athletes Neama SAID was the most consistent and with 3 from 3 won the Gold medal with 131kg. Even though Olivia REEVES started at the highest she couldn't manage her first two attempts and her last successful one of 129kg was only enogh for Silver. The biggest fight of the competition was for the Bronze medal. Mariana Garcia Gomez from Mexico and Erika Sinisterra Torres from Colombia both made a good lift on their first attempts (123kg and 122kg). After that they both missed their second attempts (127kg and 125kg) and only Garcia could lift her last attempt of 127kg and with that took Bronze. The last Total podium of the fifth day was the following: Neama SAID with 237kg could stand on the top of the podium, Olivia REEVES with 236kg became second and Mariana Garcia Gomez with 222kg received the last medal of the day.   Women 71kg Category Total Podium @IWF/Steve

New World Record for Juniansyah – Day 4 of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

The program of the fourth day featured the Women 64kg and Men 73kg (Group A and B) categories. Thanks to Rizki JUNIANSYAH from Indonesia we were fortunate enough to witness a new Junior World Records on this day. Women 64kg Category In the first final of the day, Julieth Alejandra RODRIGUEZ QUINTERO from Colombia won it all. Last year she won the Junior Pan American Games with 100kg in Snatch and 121kg in Clean&Jerk. This time in Snatch she missed her last attempt of 99kg but still her 97kg of second attempt was enough to win the category. Queysi Julissa ROJAS GONZALEZ from Mexico finished second with her third attempt of 96kg, while Antonia ACKERMANN from Germany completed the podium with her third attempt of 91kg.  In C&J Rodriguez performed her best lift at an international competition and with 124kg won the category. As in Snatch, Rojas Gonzalez took Silver with her second attempt of 119kg and Marie MANTAROPOULOS from France clinched Bronze after her best attempt of 114kg. In Total, the overall winner Rodriguez Quintero won it all. With 221kg Total she matched her previous Total achieved at the Junior Pan American Games in November 2021. Rojas Gonzalez won the Silver medal with 215kg and Mantaropoulos completed the podium with 204kg. Women 64kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 73kg Category The biggest name of the category was without the doubt Rizki JUNIANSYAH from Indonesia. At last years Junior World Championships he has not only won the World Champion title in Snatch, C&J and Total but he also broke all the Junior World Records. This year it was almost no different. In Snatch there was no competition for Juniansyah as he only started his attempts when all the others finished. He first lifted 147kg and then already on his second attempt he increased to a new Junior World Record attempt. After his first lift the second one was not that easy, and for a moment we weren't sure if he will make it but with an extraordinary effort he managed a good lift and broke his own World Record by 1kg. After his new World Record lift he declined his last attempt. Alexey CHURKIN (KAZ) went 3 from 3 and with 146kg finished second while Ryan GRIMSLAND (USA) with his last attempt of 145kg won the last medal of Snatch. In Clean&Jerk the order of the medals was the same as in Snatch. Grimsland won Bronze with his second attempt of 182kg. He almost made 187kg on his last attempt but due to press out it was a no lift. Silver was won by Churkin with 183kg. His last attempt of 187kg was first deemed as a good lift by majority of the Referees however the Jury asked for a review and decided to reverse the decison of the Referees. After them, the only question was whether Juniansyah could repeat last years performance and break all his records. He first did a successful lift of 185kg and with that he already won the C&J and the Total Gold. He then jumped to 195kg which would have meant a new Junior World Record if he makes it. Sadly it was a no lift however he still had his last attempt to try. Instead of trying the same weight once again they decided to increase to 199kg which would have meant a new Senior World Record, which was currently kept by SHI (CHN). Unfortunately this weight was too much for him and didn't manage his last attempt. In Total Juniansyah won with 341 kg, Churkin finished second with 329kg and Grimsland clinched third place with 327kg.  Men 73kg Total Podium @IWF/Isaac Morillas Tomorrow the program will start with the Men 81kg Group B at 10:00 local time. Day 3 – 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

The program of the day featured the Men 67kg (Group A and B) and Women 59kg (Group A and B). Men 67kg Category  At the 15:00 local time the Men 67kg Group A started its competition. The most prominent names in the category were Weeraphon WICHUMA (THA), 2021 IWF Youth World Champion, Gor SAHAKYAN (ARM) 2021 European Junior Champion and Fehmi Yusuf GENC (TUR), 2021 IWF Junior World Championships Bronze medalist. This also showed in the results as they won all the medals of the category. In Snatch Weeraphon WICHUMA (THA) couldn't be beaten. Compared to his result from last years Youth World Championships, his lift improved by 12kg (140kg). Gor SAHAKYAN (ARM) took Silver with 137kg and Fehmi Yusuf GENC (TUR) finished third with 136kg. In C&J there was an exiting competition between Whichuma and Genc. They both lifted successfuly on their first and second attempts, and they managed 171 kg respectively. Weeraphon tried for 175kg but wasn't successful in his attempt, therefore even though Genc also didn't manage his last attempt of 176kg he already won Gold as he lifted 171kg first. The only athlete who could come close to them was Sahakyan who with his second attempt of 165kg clinched the Bronze medal. In Total Whichuma had an advantage from his Snatch result so he took the World Champion title with 311kg, Genc finished second with 307kg and Sahakyan competed the podium with 302kg. Men 67kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Women 59kg Category The last competition of the day was the Women 59kg category where based on the entry totals all the athletes had chance to win the competition.  In Snatch the current Youth World Record holder in W55kg, Katharine ESTEP (USA) won with 91 kg. To everyone's suprise Tatiana MOSQUERA CACERES KAREN (COL) from Group B took Silver with 90kg and Alina ZAKHARCHENKO (UKR) European Junior Silver medalist finished third with the same weight (90kg) as the Colombian, however as she lifted later on she could only clinch the Bronze. In Clean&Jerk, three different athletes made the podium. Daphne GUILLEN VAZQUEZ (MEX), Pan American Junior Silver medalist, went 3 from 3 with 110-112-114kg and won Gold. Suratwadee YODSARN (THA) with only 1 kg less (113kg) took Silver and Jenifer Samanta BECCERA ROMERO (ECU) finished at thrid place with 111kg. The Total podium was as follows: Daphne GUILLEN VAZQUEZ (MEX) finished first with 203kg, Katharine ESTEP won Silver with 200kg and Tatiana MOSQUERA CACERES KAREN (COL) - Group B - 199kg. Day 2 – First World Record of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships

The program of the second day featured the Women 55kg (A and B Group) and the Men 61kg (A and B Group) categories. Women 55kg Category The Women 55kg Group B started the day at 11:00 local time, where the best result was achieved by Tenishia THORNTON (MLT) with 180 in Total. The Women 55kg A Group was the third competition of the day with 11 athletes competiting for the World Championships titles. Among the athletes were Nina STERCKX, Tokyo 2020 Olympian in W49kg category and Svitlana SAMULIAK (UKR) 2021 IWF World Championships Bronze medalist. In the Snatch portion of the program Nina STERCKX didn't give a chance to anyone when she went 88-90-93 and won Gold medal. It was an extraordinary accomplishement as this Gold medal was the first Junior World Champion title for Belgium in weightlifting. Second place went to Svitlana SAMULIAK (UKR) who lifted 89kg on her last lift. This was only 2 kgs less than what she lifted at last years World Championships in Tashkent. The Snatch podium was completed by Jamila PANFILOVA (UZB) who lifted 86kg on her last attempt. In Clean&Jerk Juliana KLARISA won Bronze with 103kg (1st attempt). While she tried to lift 105kg and 107kg on her second and third attempts, she wasn't successful in any of them. Second place went to Leila COOK (USA) who at her first International competition already won a Silver medal with 106kg. After her win in Snatch, Nina STERCKX continued to amaze everyone. With her first attempt of 107kg she already won both C&J and Total in the category. She then lifted 111kg and tried 114kg on her last attempt but it was a no lift. In Total, the Snatch podium was repeated: Nina STERCKX (BEL) won with 204kg, Silver was won by Svitlana SAMULIAK (UKR) with 192kg and Jamila PANFILOVA (UZB) finished third with 186kg. Women 55kg Total Podium @IWF/Steve Galvan Men 61kg Category At the last competition of the day the Men 61kg category saw all the Youth World Record holders, Hampton Morris (USA) and Kaan KAHRIMAN (TUR).  In Snatch, Solis DANIEL STIVEN CAICEDO (COL) won his first Bronze medal at his first international competition with 121kg. Silver went to Sergio Massidda (ITA), 2021 IWF Junior World Champion with 125kg and the winner of the category was Kaan KAHRIMAN (TUR) with 126kg. Sadly Sergio after his last Snatch injured himself, therefore he withdraw from the competition. In Clean&Jerk we witnessed the first World Record of the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships by Hampton Morris (USA). He went 3 from 3 with 150-154 and with 160 he broke the Junior World Record of 159 by 1 kg. Solis DANIEL STIVEN CAICEDO (COL) placed 2nd with 146kg, while Minjae CHOI (KOR) - from Group B - won Bronze with 145kg. The Total podium was as follows: Hampton won Gold with 276kg, Silver went to Kaan KAHRIMAN with 269kg, while Solis finished the podium with 267kg.
