Huge Uzbek success on the second competition day

Sunday was a joyful day for the organizing country, because their athlete, ERGASHEV Adkhamjon won 3 golds for Uzbekistan in the men’s 62kg. ERGASHEV, who started his first snatch on 125 kg – only two kilograms less than what the silver medallist ended up lifting – easily took the gold medal in the Snatch with an impressive 135kg. His top competitor, 2018 South American Champion, ZURITA VALLEJO Christian David from Ecuador lifted 127 kg what landed him on the second place. BUPPHAMALA Patiphan (THA), lifted 123kg in the Snatch, which was enough for a Bronze Medal, but unfortunately, missing two attempts, he didn’t manage to lift more than 145kg in the Clean and Jerk. MAU Jon Luke (GER), who finished on the fifth place in the Snatch, quickly raised to the second place in the Clean and Jerk, with 157kg, that moved him up to the second place in the Total (278kg). The Gold in the Clean and Jerk went to ERGASHEV with 162kg, totalling 295kg. It’s worth to mention that the Uzbek lifter was a Youth World Champion in 2016 with 280kg and last year, he was fourth at the World Championships with 292kg. Bronze Medallist in the Clean and Jerk, ZURITA VALLEJO lifted 150kg and ended with a Total of 277kg. — Follow IWF: Facebook Instagram Twitter

Same medal podium for the Snatch, Clean and Jerk and Total in the Women’s 53kg

Three athletes took the lead in the Snatch. The Thai KHAMBAO Surodchana, DELACRUZ Jourdan Elizabeth (USA) and SINISTERRA TORRES Yenny (COL). With three good lifts, KHAMBAO secured first place. The three of them lifted above 80kg and there was a 12kg gap between the 3rd place SINISTERRA TORRES an 4th place BECERRA ROMERO Jenifer Samanta (ECU). The advantage was quite difficult to challenge in the Clean and Jerk and even more so because of their higher starting weights. All three came out after all athletes took their lifts in the Women’s 53kg bodyweight category. SINISTERRA TORRES came out first with a 98kg lift being a good one. DELACRUZ Jourdan Elizabeth (USA) came right after her with a missed attempt at 103kg that she managed to control at her second attempt. DELACRUZ ended the Clean and Jerk with 107kg. Both lifters wanted that Silver Medal in the Total resulting in a tense battle. For her last attempt, SINISTERRA TORRES Yenny (COL) took 108kg but missed to stand up with the weight. That missed attempt resulted in a third place for her while the Silver Medal was awarded to DELACRUZ Jourdan Elizabeth (USA) for her Total of 193kg. To secure her leading place, KHAMBAO Surodchana (THA) came out at 108kg and was unstoppable until the end. There was no need for her to lift any more to win the competition, but she still wanted to have the Clean and Jerk Gold. Lifting 110kg, she won it all and even took her third lift at 112kg – her only missed attempt. — Follow IWF: Facebook Instagram Twitter

LAI Gia Thanh (VIE) came out last when all other athletes already took their attempts in the Snatch. He started at 118kg and failed at first, but made it look easy with his second attempt. He came out for a third lift at 122kg – good one. This gave him a 5kg advantage over GARCIA PEREZ. Taking Bronze in the Snatch, Pan-American Youth Champion in 2017, GARCIA PEREZ Jairo Luis (COL) made it three good lifts while NGO Son Dinh (VIE) had only one good lift in the Snatch – 113kg – still enough for a Bronze. Ending with a Total of 254kg, he managed to grab the Silver Medal ahead of NGO. Ranking third after the Snatch, NGO had only one good lift in the Clean and Jerk – 136kg. With his Total of 249kg, he still managed to take the third place of the podium and a well deserved Bronze. His compatriot LAI had only one good lift in the Clean and Jerk – 144kg – sealing his victory with three Gold Medals. His Total in 2017 was 249kg that he improved with 17kg this year.
