India Men and Women Championships

In Udaipur, India (IND) the "62 India Men and 25 Women Championships" were held. After the doping failures in 2009 resulting in a financial penalty and several dIsqualifications (including one for life), this event was aimed to show the current Indian weightlifters, and appoint the Indian team's members to participate at "XIX Commonwealth Games" to be held in Delhi (IND), on 03-10.10.2010. Kasabijew’s Debut in Question

The President of Polish Weightlifting Federation, Zygmunt Wasiela has informed that Arsen Kasabijew (87) debut under the Polish team colours in the European Seniors Championships in Minsk (BLR) came into question. It happened due to Georgian Weightlifting Federation authorities, which in the last hours, literally, dramatically "tightened" its position cocnerning an equivalent for the training of their lifters. On February 21-23, Yerevan State Olympic Reserve College was hosting Armenian Weightlifting Championship. In the highest categories gold went to Leva Gasharyan (weight category 94), Arthur Babayan (weight category 105) and Ruben Alexanyan (weight category +105). Samvel Khachatryan, President of Weightlifting Federation of Armenia told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that the weightlifters started to prepare to the European Weightlifting Championships. Five sports proposed for 2011 Pacific Games

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands, NOCSI, board has confirmed the participation of five sports to the 2011 Pacific Games (PG) in New Caledonia next year. This was agreed to by the board. The sixth Pacific Games will be held in Noumea, New Caledonia from 27 August to 10 September 2011. Following the meeting the NOCSI board decided to send the following sports based on their recent past records of winning medals at the games. Japanese weightlifters train at LSUS

In February, ten weightlifters and two coaches from seven universities in Japan visited LSUS for a joint training session with the LSU Shreveport weightlifting team. In its second year running, this joint training camp is the outcome of a ten-year friendship between LSUS's weightlifting Coach, Kyle Pierce, Ph.D., and Coach Junichi Okada of Waseda University in Tokyo. This friendship and their mutual desire to expose their students to new cultures and expanding experiences led them to combine their teams and emphasize not only excellence in their sport, but also offer an example of the "Olympic spirit", as Pierce called it. He described the week as a "picture of diversity." "[The week] got everyone fired up and challenged- everyone manages to communicate and have lots of fun," said Pierce. This was a special opportunity for the students of both countries, and one that will not soon be forgotten. 2010 Pacific Islands Email Tournament

Another successful event for the Oceania region which attracted 150 competitors from the following countries: Palau, FSM, Kiribati, Nauru, Tuvalu, PNG, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Niue, and New Caledonia. There were some excellent performances amongst the pacific lifters and with the Commonwealth Games coming up this year, this is very encouraging for the region.
