The audiance exploded with cheer when OPELOGE won the M89kg

The venue filled with loud cheering when OPELOGE Don (SAM), niece of the Samoan legend Elle Opeloge, the only Olympic silver medallist of the country, successfully finished his last lift and won the men's 89kg session. The OPELOGE family is truly bound to the sport, there are seven OPELOGES with international results. Chinese team booked the fourth victory in W64kg

Chinese team pocketed the fourth gold medal, LIAO Guifang easily won the women's 64kg bodyweight category. Three athletes took all the medals, with steady performances of the first three athletes, the ranking table did not change during the competition. SUHAREVS clinched the gold medal from SOLIS in men’s 81kg

Third, at this year's European Championship, Litvanian SUHAREVS Ritvas and Columbian SOLIS ARBOLEDA Juan Felipe battled for the gold medal of the men's 81kg category at the first A session of day four of the Junior World Championships in Suva. SUHAREVS  lifted 1kg more in the Snatch (156kg) and they had the same result in the Clean and Jerk (195kg), but SOLIS being the first to clean and SUHAREVS failing his last attempt at 198kg, the Columbian picked up this gold medal. In the end, SUHAREVS totalled 351kg, while SOLIS 350kg. "I am disappointed in the Snatch because I am better than that, my best result is 162kg. I don't know what happened today but could not lift 161kg. (...) My coach is happy with my result anyway, and if my coach is happy, I am happy too." - said SUHAREVS after the competition. IWF Anti-Doping Seminar in Suva, Fiji

International Weightlifting Federation organized an Anti-Doping education seminar in conjunction with the IWF Junior World Championships in Suva, Fiji. Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IWF Anti-Doping Chairman gave information about the checklist for weightlifters such as keeping a proper diet, checking the prohibited list, consulting with the doctor and checking the IWF Anti-Doping Policy. Dr. Schamasch also explained how to apply for a TUE. Dr. Lilla Sági, IWF Legal Counsel talked about ADAMS and the Whereabouts submission. She advised the athletes to put a reminder in their calendar in order to not forget the deadlines. Finally, Dr. Sági presented the IWF iLiftClean E-Learning Platform which besides the already existing 5 languages is available in French. Given the collaboration of IWF and International Testing Agency (ITA), Ms. Alarna Nightingale, Anti-Doping Coordinator introduced the partnership between the two organizations. LUO easily won the women’s 59kg

The women’s 59kg field had no chance to come anywhere near to take the gold medal from 2017 Asian Games Champion, Chinese LUO Xiaomin. She put an enormous 13kg margin in the Snatch, and 10kg in the Clean and Jerk between herself and silver medallists, rounding up her final score to 221kg. 2018 European Junior Champion CAKIN Aysegul (TUR) was second in the ranking, 25kg behind LUO, while with 195kg, Tunesian RAHMOUNI Chaima finished in the third place. USA won a bronze medal in the Snatch, Buenos Aires YOG bronze medallist BROWN Payton Taylor lifted 87kg. CINTRA LAGOS Nicole took home a bronze medal to Brazil for her 107kg Clean and Jerk result.

CWA President is impressed with the JWC in Fiji

Chinese Weightlifting Association President praised Weightlifting Fiji for hosting well-prepared championships. Chinese team impressed by beautiful scenery, well-prepared competition facilities The recently re-elected President of the Chinese Weightlifting Association, ZHOU Jinqiang, thanked Weightlifting Fiji and Organizing Committee for a well prepared 2019 Junior World Championships Monday in Suva. “I’m so happy to be here in Fiji,” ZHOU said. “Our countries have a very good relationship.” Impressed by the comfortable hotel and easy transportation, ZHOU attributed much of his team’s success to the forethought of the Organizing Committee. “They’ve provided us and all of the teams with very good accommodation and transportation,” he said. “That’s why we have good results.” The 2019 Junior World Championships team from China consists of eight athletes, four men and four women. With only two of those athletes yet to compete, China has won three Junior World Championship titles, eight gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.
