Weightlifting Family mourns the death of OUERTANI Marouan

The International Weightlifting Federation and the Tunisian Weightlifting Federation mourns the death of 19 year old OUERTANI Marouan who tragically passed away yesterday in Tunisia. Promising young and talented athlete, OUERTANI competed in the 62kg bodyweight category. 2014 African Junior Champion, he won 3 Bronze Medals at the 2014 IWF Junior World Championships Kazan, RUS on 23 June. His death is a tragedy for all participants. Weightlifting Family lost an outstanding athlete. Our sympathy and condolences goes to OUERTANI Marouen’s Family and to the Tunisian Weightlifting

2014 IWF JWC ended with the Superheavyweight

Men’s 105kg The 17 years old KUROUSKI Rychard’s (BLR) lifted 177kg and won the Gold in the Snatch. With 7kg less than the Polish lifter in the Clean & Jerk he got only Silver, but still managed to make it to the highest sstage of the podium with a Total of 378kg. After a strong start – Silver with 173kg in the Snatch – the Ukrainian lifter KUBYSHKOVSKYI Leonid only made it to the 6th place with 200kg in the Clean & Jerk. Achieving this lower ranking because of bodyweight, he lost the second place in Total for the same reason. SAMORAJ Jaroslaw Pawel (POL) only 5th in the Snatch with 12kg less than the Gold Medallist made an impressive “home run” and lifted 208kg in the Clean & Jerk after missing his attempt on 205kg. He took the Silver for the Total from KUBYSHKOVSKYI ending with exactly the same result of 373kg. 4th in the Snatch, KUPTSOV Georgii (RUS) made it to the third place of the podium by luck because of bodyweight in the Clean & Jerk lifting 200kg – just like 3 other lifters heavier than him. BIDANI Walid won the first Medal – a Bronze – of the competition for Algeria in the Snatch with 170kg. Quote from KUROUSKI Rychard’s (BLR): “I came here for the Gold.” Men’s +105kg The Superheavyweight was the competition of SAVCHUK and HWANG. Both lifters started competition for the Gold in the Snatch after all competitors were done. HWANG Wooman (KOR) took 1kg advantage over the Russian SAVCHUK Antoniy missing his second Snatch at 180kg and third at 181kg. Easy in the Clean & Jerk SAVCHUK with three good lifts won it all with the 395kg weight – being the most lifted here at the 2014 IWF Junior World Championships Kazan, RUS. Silver Medal was awarded to HWANG Wooman (KOR) with a Total of 12kg less - 383kg. From the 6th place in the Snatch, the Egyptian lifter GABER Ahmed Mohamed Abdelhamed M. made it to the third place. Last Women’s competition with the +75kg

Women’s ended their competition at the 2014 IWF Junior World Championships Kazan, RUS with the +75kg bodyweight category. After a strong start and a Gold in the Snatch, KOBELEVA Larisa (RUS) came only 4th in the Clean & Jerk. With her Total of 245kg, she however stood on the first place of the podium. With two Silver Medals and a Gold in the Clean & Jerk, ABBAS Halima Abdelazim Sedky (EGY) needed only 2kg to grab the victory in the Total. 6th place after the Snatch, the Tunisian lifter DHIEB Yosra came up second in the Clean & Jerk and won the Bronze Medal in the Total by bodyweight over the Ecuadorian lifter with 235kg. Bronze Medal in the Snatch was awarded to CHUNG Yun-Ling (TPE) winning the first medal in the Women’s category for Chinese Taipei, while Clean & Jerk Bronze Medallist was the other Egyptian lifter in the bodyweight category SALAMA

In the Women’s 75kg bodyweight category, the 2014 Junior Asian Champion KIM Su Jong (PRK) took a 7kg advantage over her competitors in the Snatch leaving the second place for BELOBORODOVA Maria (RUS). The Chinese lifter LU Xue (CHN), Bronze Medallist missed the Total podium by 1kg. Clean & Jerk was all about bodyweight. All three - KIM, BELOBORODOVA and NAUMAVA (4th after the Snatch) lifted 134kg and the medals were awarded according to bodyweight. Gold went to BELOBORODOVA while Silver was awarded to KIM and the Belorussian lifter NAUMAVA took the Bronze. The final ranking for the Total is KIM with 250kg, BELOBORODOVA lifting 243kg and NAUMAVA with 231kg. Anastasia Davydova, Secretary-General of the Russian Olympic Committee five times Olympic Champion in Synchronized Swimming joined the competition and presented the medals. Men’s 94kg In the Snatch, KOSOV Alexei (RUS) came out when the other competitors already took all three attempts. With an impressive start on 173kg, he couldn’t control the weight of 180kg. His one and only good lift in the Snatch however gave him the Gold Medal. With a Clean & Jerk Gold he secured himself the first place also in the Total with 379kg. GUIDEA Marcel (MDA) made a 10kg jump between his first and second Clean & Jerk attempts in order to defeat KOSOV, but the increase must have been too high and left him on second place. The Bronze Medal was awarded to KUDAEV Zhamal (RUS) lifting 21kg less than his Russian compatriot. Russian flags to rise

Women’s 69kg MAXIMOVA Xenia (RUS) weighed-in with 63.40kg and slightly made it to the 69kg bodyweight category. It was part of the strategy of the Russian team not to make her compete against her compatriot in the lower 63kg bodyweight. MAXIMOVA won her first international medal in the 48kg bodyweight category at the 2009 Youth European Champion before moving up to the 58kg where she won the 2012 Youth World Championships and 2013 Junior World Championships. With a Total of 234kg Total being her Personal Best, she won the Gold Medal in Snatch and in the Total. ZHANG Li (CHN) 4th place in the Snatch came back to the second place in the Clean & Jerk Gold lifting 1kg more than the Russian lifter. She stood up on the second place of the Podium in the Total with 228kg. All 3 Bronze Medals were awarded to SARGSYAN Ani (ARM). Men’s 85 Men’s Snatch The 2013 IWF World Championships Wroclaw Bronze Medallist OKULOV started his 1st attempt in the Snatch at 158kg after everybody finished the competition. Ending on 165kg, he won the Gold with an 8kg advantage over the Silver Medallist BULAT Iurie (MDA). Bronze Medal winner HASSAN Ammar Hassan Mabrouk (EGY) had his elbow injured and couldn’t come out for the Clean & Jerk. The Clean & Jerk competition ended with Russian victory. With 6 Good Lifts, an impressive confidence, technique and strength, OKULOV took the first place of the Podium and the 3 Gold Medals. The Chinese lifter ZHAO Yongchao lifted 20kg less than the Gold Medallist in the Snatch and ended 7th. More confident in the Clean & Jerk, he almost catch the Russian leader. With 1kg less, he won the Silver, and came up second in the Total with 341kg winning 5 places. After a 4th place in the Snatch, the Italian lifter PIZZOLATO Antonino almost got 190kg in the Clean & Jerk, but the jury considered the lift as no lift. Nevertheless, with 185kg and his Total of 334kg, he grabbed 2 Bronze
