First Russian Gold

Women’s 63kg The 1st Russian Gold (all 3) of the competition was awarded to AKHMETOVA Diana (RUS) for her 6 good lifts. 2010 Youth Olympic Games Silver Medallist, 2011 Youth World Champion and 2012 Junior World Champion with 237kg, she lifted today 1kg less still winning it all. Silver Medal was awarded to KIM Hyo Sim (PRK) 2014 Junior Asian Champion. 2014 European World Championships 4th place MOLIE Madalina Bianca (ROU) ended with a Total of 227kg, a Bronze in the Snatch, Silver in the Clean & Jerk and a second Bronze in the Total. Meeting regarding Masters Weightlifting

The IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan, Vice President and Technical Committee Chairman Sam Coffa, Executive Board Member and Medical Committee Chairman Mike Irani, Coaching and Research Committee Member Kyle Pierce, Director General Attila Adamfi, Legal Counsel Dr. Magdolna Trombitas, Communication and Marketing Manager Lilla Rozgonyi held discussion about the future of Weightlifting and especially Masters with Masters Chairman Jan Hinrichsen and Lawrie Townsend Vice-Chair person. Youth, Junior, Senior and Masters are all important part of the weightlifting family. Topics such as Rules and Regulations were studied carefully taking into account the actual situation of the Masters weightlifting. Occasionally Masters don’t incorporate the actual rules and regulations of the IWF therefor better coordination will be established and the IWF management will deal with the challenges faced by the Masters. Gold for Thailand and Tunisia

Women’s 58kg Approaching to 100kg, SRISURAT Sukanya (THA) ended the Snatch with a Gold Medal. Victory was however awarded to the Colombian lifter ALVAREZ CAICEDO Yenny Fernanda in the Clean & Jerk because of lighter bodyweight. Both lifted 119kg. Bronze Medallist in the Snatch, ALVAREZ managed to take the second place of the podium in the Total with 213kg. Starting with a Silver Medal in the Snatch, RIM Un Sim (PRK) was awarded 5th place in the Clean & Jerk. Her advantage in the Snatch was enough for the Bronze Medal in the Total. Clean victories on the second competition day

In the Women’s 53kg, the Chinese lifter WU Lingqian took the lead with 12kg more than the Silver Medallist TANASAN Sopita (THA) ending with a Total of 195kg. ANGGRAINI Syarah (INA) was awarded three Bronze. After third place at the Asian Junior Championships in 2011, a second place in 2013, the 18 years old WU finally got the so coveted Gold here in Kazan. Silver Medallist at the 2013 IWF World Championships in Wroclaw, TANASAN had only one successful Snatch and couldn’t defeat the Chinese lifter. The final fight for the Gold Medal in the Men’s 62kg bodyweight category was between MO Yongxiang (CHN) and MOSQUERA LOZANO Luis Javier (COL). Both got 3 good attempts in the Snatch and the Colombian lifter had only 1kg advantage over MO. Bronze Medal went to OUERTANI Marouan (TUN) with 121kg, 16kg behind the leader. MO’s starting weight in the Clean & Jerk was 160kg which seemed to be a tough one while he missed his attempts twice controlling the weight only at his third attempt. Two World Records for THACH Kim Tuan

Altogether 269 athletes from 49 countries - 115 Women and 149 Men participate in the 2014 Junior World Championships Kazan, RUS held at the Palace of Sport - venue of the competition. Competition kicked off today with the Women’s 48kg bodyweight category. In the Snatch, the Chinese lifter WEI Chengji had no opponent. Lifting 83kg, she ended first while the Indonesian lifter AUGUSTIANI Sri Wahyuni 81kg. Third place went to KOHA Rebeka (LAT) winning by bodyweight on AHMET Heba Saleh Mahmoud (EGY). WEI couldn’t control 104kg for her second and third attempts in the Clean & Jerk, therefor she ended on her starting weight of 100kg. She was awarded the Silver Medal in the Clean & Jerk and in the Total. Asian Championships Silver AUGUSTIANI won the Gold in the Total with 186kg while 3rd place went to the Egyptian lifter also third at the 2013 IWF Youth World Championships. Men’s 56kg The Vietnamese lifter, 20 year old THACH Kim Tuan increased his first attempt with an impressive 13kg in the Snatch setting a new Junior World Record with 133kg. Asian Junior and Youth Champion, Youth Olympic Gold Medallist at the 2010 Singapore YOG, he secured his Gold in the Total with a 146kg Clean & Jerk. He increased his second attempt to 160kg and broke the Total World Record with 293kg. The previous record holder in the Snatch as well as in the Total was LONG Quingquan (CHN) setting both of them at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Silver Medal went to KRUAITHONG Sinphet (THA) with 255kg. SCARANTINO Mirco (ITA) won the Silver Medal on bodyweight in the Snatch, but this same bodyweight gave him the third place in the Total.
