Australian Olympic dream came true in Vancouver at Winter Olympics

Cecilia McIntosh's story is one of total persistence in the service of a dream that had frequently seemed destined to elude her. She had tried weightlifting, finishing second in the national titles during the 1990s but not qualifying for an Olympic Games. At javelin she got much closer, winning silver at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and qualifying for Athens in 2004 before persistent elbow problems ended her athletics career. She shifted then to bobsled but also kept her interest in elite-level Australian rules football (she made the All-Australian women's team last year.) Indonesia Wants 26th Sea Games To Be Held On 11.11.11

The host of the 26th SEA Games, Indonesia, has lined up 37 sports for the biennial meet which is scheduled for November next year. Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI) in its website, confirmed that of the 37 sports, 22 would be Olympic events and the other 15 non-Olympic events. "During our presentation at the Asian Games Federation meeting, we proposed that the SEA Games be held on Nov 11, 2011. I think it'll be nice if it's written as 11/11/11," KOI secretary-general Arie Ariotedjo was reported as saying in the website. Nevertheless, he said the final date for the meet would be finalised by the SEA Games Federation at its meeting in April. The 26th SEA Games in Indonesia would be held in four provinces namely Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Palembang. Palembang will be hosting football, wrestling, gymnastic, wushu, powerlifting, weightlifting, aquatic, wall climbing and track and field events, while Semarang would be the venue for archery, boxing, snooker/billiard, sepak takraw, shooting, roller skating and the other paralympic

Aid for Haiti Athletes

Haitian athletes will receive assistance to help them compete in the next major multi-sport event ahead on the calendar, the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico this July. The aid to Haiti is being coordinated by a commission of National Olympic Committee leaders from the region formed in the aftermath of the January earthquake. Following a Feb. 4 meeting in Mayaguez, the committee agreed to cover all the costs for the Haitian team that will attend the games. The company that supplies uniforms for the Mexican team will be asked to provide kit for the Haitian team.Haitian Olympic Committee President Jean Edouard Baker told the committee that athletes will compete in athletics, judo, weightlifting, boxing, taekwondo and karate. Weightlifters prepare for Oceania meet

Solomon Islands weightlifters are in serious training at Lawson Tama in the lead up to their first international duty set to take place in May this year. The Oceania Senior, Junior & Youth championships are set to take place in Nauru from the 6th -9th of May. The championship is also the 2010 Olympic Youth Continental Qualification where top young weightlifters in the region will be selected for the Olympic Youth Games later in the year. Around 16 national weightlifters are into their second week of training back from the long off-season break. Star sports caught up with some of the weightlifters at Lawson Tama and they confirmed that selections as to who will represent the country will be made by the federation. Currently nine men and seven women are training for the championships. National weightlifting champion Wendy Wale is the highest ranked weightlifter in the current OWF Oceania Rankings list. She holds the number 1 position in her 58kg category ahead of PNG's Rita Kari. Other female weightlifters making the top ten lists in the OWF Oceania Rankings are T.Grace, Jenly Wini, Jennly Donga, Alomae Mae and Susuan Luisa, all in their own respective weight categories. In the men, Brown Ramoaka sits on 4th place in last years Oceania rankings in the 62kg. He is followed by Rocky Ramo on 10th place in the same weight category and Mathew Tolo on 10th place as well but in the 56kg weight category.
