In pursuit of Gold at the Asian Games

In Men’a 77kg Pang Kum Chol (PRK) showed without being contested his dominating position and won the gold medal with a substantial lead of 38kg over the bronze medalist lifter from Kazakhstan Shauyeteyev Dauren. Second place went to Pavlov Kirill (KAZ) with a Total of 325kg still 23kg less than Pang Kum Chol (348kg).   In Women’s 63kg, the Champion of the 2010 Antalya World Championships Maneza Maiya (KAZ) ranked first with a Total of 241kg. Kim Soo Kyung (KOR) ranked second right before the Chinese lifter Chen Aichan who managed to keep the third place.

Deadline reminder for the IWF Intercontinental Clubs Grand Prix

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) organizes an IWF Grand Prix that is an individual qualification competition to be held in Penang, Malaysia from 11 to 16 December 2010. The deadline for all Clubs and Federations to send their Final Entry Forms is Saturday November 20. We await every athlete willing to participate to fill in the required forms, and send the documents to the Organizing Committee Chairman Mr. Dato’ Ong Poh Eng ([email protected]), Event Director Mr. Paul Coffa ([email protected]) and IWF Competition Director Mr. Attila Adamfi ([email protected]) by the end of this week.

A small peek at the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou, China

After the third day of competition, Chinese lifters are dominating the field. According to the medal standings, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has won a total of five, just like their strongest competitor China. The Champion of the 2010 Antalya World Championships Wu Jingbiao (CHN) won the first Weightlifting gold medal in Dongguan Gymnasium on Saturday November 13. He set a new Asian Record in Snatch by performing 1kg more (133 kg) than the previous record holder Long Qingquan (CHN) at the Beijing Olympics. Second place went to Cha Kum Chol from DPR Korea with a Total of 276kg, while the Indonesian lifter Setiadi Jadi settled for the bronze medal. In Women’s 48 kg Wang Mingjuan (CHN) lifted a Total of 210kg and defended her title at the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou. The lifter Laosirikul Pensiri (THA) took the silver while Chen Weiling from Chinese Taipei gained the bronze by lifting almost 20kg less than the gold medalist from China. Zhang Jie (CHN) proved to be the best in Men’s 62kg bodyweight category right before Kim Un Guk (PRK) silver medalist and Irawan Eko Yuli (INA) who finished on the third place. During the second day of competition, in Women’s 53kg the Chinese lifter Li Ping broke two World Records. She performed 103kg in Snatch and broke the previous record set by Ri Song Hui (PRK) in 2002. She secured her gold and broke the record in Total during her second attempt of the Clean & Jerk. Second place went to Chinshanlo Zulfiya (KAZ), and Jaroenrattanatarakoon Prapawadee (THA), Beijing Olympic gold medalist took the bronze. The third day of the Asian Games gave place to Men’s 69kg and Women’s 58kg competitions. Kim Kum Sok lifted a Total of 324kg in Men’s 69kg category and ended up first right before the Iranian lifter Rezaeian Morteza. After raising 143kg in Snatch, Tryatno (INA) lifted 178kg in Clean & Jerk and secured his third place. International Tournament in France

The Tournament Denis Randon was created on the idea of Clermont Sports that Yves Randon decided to take back later on. The Tournament to commemorate Denis Randon, the founder of the Weightlifting Club of Clermont l’Hérault will be held on the 30th of October 2010. The city hosts the only International Weightlifting Tournament of France for the eighth time since 1983. The competition will welcome international delegations from Poland, Romanian, Germany and Belgium as well. The ambassador of the French delegation will be Benjamin Hennequin and besides him, Ali el Moujoud and Jean-Baptiste Bardis from Clermont Sports will compete to win the tournament. This year’s competition will be even more exciting since the 2008 Tournament winner Robert Dolega (POL) will challenge to Valeriu Calancea (ROU) the title holder of the previous competition in

The 16th Asian Games are officially opened!

The spectacular Opening Ceremony for the 16th Asian Games, part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), took place on Friday November 12 in Guangzhou, China. A record number of about 14,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories are participating in 42 sporting disciplines until November 27. Games officials also announced that during The 16 th Asian Games some 3,989 medals will be awarded. The Opening Ceremony was directed by Chen Weiya, previously director of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and was held outside the main stadium on the Haixinsha Island. The Games are ready to dazzle the three million spectators set to watch all of the competition and billions of TV viewers across Asia and around the World. Officials announced that a record number of doping tests will be carried out at the Games. “The Olympic Council of Asia plans for some 1,500 urine tests and probably more than 200 blood tests at the Asian Games”, according to Zhao Jian, deputy head of China’s Anti-Doping Agency.
