Venezuelan athletes received Olympic diplomas

Venezuelan athletes Betsi Rivas (second from the left) and Junior Sánchez (third from the left) have received their Olympic diplomas, rewarding their weightlifting performances at the London Games. The award ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Venezuelan NOC, in the presence of NOC President Eduardo Álvarez; the President of the national weightlifting federation, Pedro León Torres; and coaches Yamil Guiliani and Gabriel Enseñat. 2012 IWF Youth World Championships Kosice, Slovakia

The 2012 IWF Youth World Championships will be held in Kosice, Slovakia from 16-22 September. The Venue hosting the competition is the Spolocenský Pavilon. Richard Rasi, Mayor of Kosice warmly welcome all participants to this great event contributing to the promotion of weightlifting sport to a younger generation. “I am convinced that this championship will offer a great opportunity to see exciting competition and the birth future sports stars. IWF Grand Prix – President’s Cup 2012

The IWF Grand Prix – President’s Cup will be held from 12 to 14 October, 2012 in St. Petersburg, Russia at the Palace of Sports “Yubileyniy". Mr. Attila Adamfi, IWF Competition Director made an official Technical visit to St. Petersburg in order to finalize with Mr. Anton Kislyakov, Russian Weightlifting Federation Vice President the latest details with regards to the organization of the IWF Grand Prix – President’s Cup 2012. The high organization level event delivered in 2011 will certainly be topped by this second edition. St Petersburg offers an impressive infrastructure to host the competition, and the professionalism of the experts working on the planning and delivery meets the highest expectations. New CEO for USA Weightlifting

USA Weightlifting is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Massik as its CEO. Michael joins the USAW having had a very deep background in NGB leadership and Olympic movement. For the past four years, he was a principal with Massik-Burton LLC, a firm that provides consulting services to multiple National Governing Bodies. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of USA Fencing for 12 years, from 1996 through 2008. Under his leadership, fencing went from no medals in Atlanta (1996 Olympic Games) to six medals in Beijing (2008), and a USA fencer won a gold medal in the sport for the first time in 100 years. During the same period, the annual budget for Fencing went from less than $1 million to nearly $4 million and membership grew from approximately 8,000 to 25,000. Before joining USA Fencing, Michael was a senior manager at Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide, a Fortune 100 corporation where he worked for 12 years. While at Brown-Forman, he founded the Louisville Fencing Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the sport of fencing to low income youth within the city of Louisville, KY.
