IWF launches Technical Officials’ nomination process for 2014 world events

Member Federations are now requested and able to submit the nomination of Technical Officials to the following world events of the IWF in 2014: - IWF 2014 Junior World Championships, Kazan RUS - Youth Olympic Games, Nanjing CHN - IWF 2014 Olympic Qualification World Championships, Almaty KAZ - FISU World University Weightlifting Championships, Chiangmai THA Call for 2014 TO Nominations can be downloaded here. The Nomination Form must be used to forward the proposals. Deadline: 20 February

Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes became Knight of the Order of Legion of Honor

Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes became Knight of the Order of Legion of Honor for his services to French Sport and French Weightlifting in particular. The long serving President of the French Federation, former IWF Executive Board Member received this high distinction of the President of the French Republic from the hands of Denis Masseglia, President of the French Olympic Committee. Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes was Member of the Executive Board of the French Weightlifting Federation since 1972, Secretary General from 1976 until 1984 and President between 2001 and 2013. He organized four Weightlifting Championships: 1975 – 1st IWF Junior World Championships in Marseilles, 2005 – FISU World Championships in Villeneuve-Loubet, and in 2005 – Lilles and 2011 Paris the IWF World Championships. President of Ghana Weightlifting Federation elected NF President of the year 2013

Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation was voted by the sports writers association of Ghana (SWAG) as the best National Federation President (out of the 36 National Federation Presidents in Ghana) for the year 2013. He received this high recognition for the tremendous work done to promote weightlifting in Ghana in the last eight (8) months. This honour will be a major booster for Ghana Weightlifting Federation in 2014. The Federation hopes to commission a modern weightlifting hall and gym in April, and also introduce weightlifting to most of the second cycle schools in Accra and the security services in Ghana.
