IOC Session in Sochi opens with historical speech by IOC President Thomas Bach

Honorary Member of the IOC, Dr. Tamás Aján has reported from Sochi, Russia where he is attending the Session of the International Olympic Committee. "The IOC President has undoubtedly introduced a new era in Olympic sports and in the history of the Games with his very interesting and impressive speech at the Opening Ceremony of the 126th IOC Session here in Sochi. I could not agree more with his words - 'The Olympic Movement always stands for building bridges to bring people together, not for erecting walls to keep them apart.', said the IWF President. "It has been my own life philosophy and guiding principle as well," he added. "The IOC President's speech generated an interesting debate at the Session and I am sure that very soon there will be major changes in the Olympic Movement", Dr. Aján concluded. French Federation at the IWF Secretariat

The delegation of the French Weightlifting Federation paid a visit to the IWF Secretariat. Marc Andrieux, President of the French Weightlifting Federation (FFHMFAC) and Alexandra Vigoureux, Administrative, Financial and Legal Director held a meeting with Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President to talk about major issues with regard to the cooperation of the two organizations. Several ongoing issues were raised during the conversation and the French Federation emphasized on the future events to be organized to promote and further develop weightlifting and involve younger generation. Bosnia and Herzegovina Best Athlete in 2013

At the Ceremony organized to honor “Bosnia and Herzegovina Best Athlete in 2013”, two young athletes and two weightlifting officials received high recognition. Zeljko Komsic, President of Bosnia and Herzegovina handed over the awards to the winners. In the category “Young Talent”, Ms. Amina MASIC (born in 1999) and Mr. Nermin Zecic (born in 1996) were awarded. For the development of Sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Medal of Honor was given to: Mr. Kemal HOSO, Congress Weightlifting President and Mr. Nedim MASIC, General Secretary of Bosnia and Herzegovina Weightlifting

Dika Toua and Jenly Wini are the first female graduates in Oceania

Dika Toua from Papua New Guinea, Olympic Games representative 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, the 2006 Commonwealth Games silver medallist and eight times Oceania Champion , along with Jenly Wini from Solomon Islands, Oceania Champion in the 58kg category and 2012 Olympic representative, were presented the OWF Regional Coaching Diploma on Monday 20th January. Both women attended a 12 months intensive coaching course at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia funded by the IOC through Olympic Solidarity. In addition to studying the units of the course, Dika and Jenly had access to the training of all the elite lifters of the institute and on many occasions they were given the responsibility of monitoring their training. All candidates undertaking the coaching course at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute are encouraged to continue lifting, as they have a better understanding of the full requirements of coaching top athletes. The IWF wants to congratulate to these talented athletes who ended successfully the training programme at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute (OWI) becoming the first female graduates in Oceania. RFWF delegation meets IWF President

The IWF regularly consults the leadership of the leading Weightlifting Federations. This time, the Delegation of the Russian Weightlifting Federation paid a visit to the IWF Secretariat to discuss topical items of the cooperation. IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan met the delegation which consisted of Sergey Syrtsov, RFWF President and Maxim Agapitov, RFWF Vice-President. In the focus of discussions was the Junior World Championships to be held in Kazan, RUS from 20-28 June2014 as well as the 2014 Edition of the traditional President’s Cup. The Russian Federation which is one of the leading powers of the sport has made an offer to provide qualified coaches for engagement in countries that wish to hire.
