Antalya 2010 WWC Overall

At the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Weightlifting Championships Antalya, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Mehmet Ali Sahin said during his inaugural speech that „There is one language which is spoken as a common one by mankind, and it's the language of sports." He also said that this competition will contribute to peace and friendship among participating countries. The Weightlifting Championships held in Antalya, Turkey was a well organized and wonderfully managed competition that welcomed 515 participating lifters out of 74 countries. 65 platforms were provided for the training within the competition hall which considerably facilitated the work out sessions of the athletes. 203 women from 50 countries competed on stage at the Expo Center for the 21st edition for Women World Championships. This year's competition has been mostly about breaking records. Women performed above all expectations with setting 20 new World Records. The majority where realized by lifters from China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey. The one and only World Record among Men was set by the Chinese lifter LIAO Hui who dominated the 69kg category and showed a high technical superiority in his outstanding performance. He broke the Senior World Records in Clean & Jerk as well as in Total. The 1500th Women's World Championship Medal was awarded to SHIMKOVA Svetlana (RUS) who reached first place in the Women 69kg bodyweight category. The ELEIKO-IWF Press Commission's Trophy of "Best Lifter" within Men went to LIAO Hui (CHN) while the "Best Women" Trophy was awarded to KASHIRINA Tatiana (RUS). According to the Team classification, the first 6 best performing Men and Women Team stood up on stage during the Closing Ceremony to receive a special award. Within the 312 participating men lifters out of 63 countries, the Chinese Team finished as first. The ranking follows as Russia, Poland, Uzbekistan, Iran and Korea. Among Women, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, Colombia and Thailand got awarded within Team classification. Worldwide Television Exposure

Across both Europe and Asia there was extensive ‘live' coverage of this year's World Weightlifting Championships from Antalya, Turkey including: Eurosport's pan European coverage to over sixty European countries in nineteen languages - plus Eurosport's Asia/Pacific service to a further fourteen countries including Australia, Brunei, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tonga and Vietnam. Seminar in the framework of the IWF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM in MALTA

We would like to draw your attention to the IWF - Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation (MWC) seminar in the framework of the Development Program which will be held from 20th to 23rd October in Malta (Seashells Resort at Suncrest-Qawra) during the "V Mediterranean Cup". Renowned and experienced lecturers will lecture about "New skills for developing Weightlifting" The program of the seminar is the following: Stabilometric analysis:• Determining the COP (centre of pressure) and the centre of balance of the sub plantar region;• Stabilometric analysis with one and with two tests;• Statokinesigrams and their confidence ellipses; • Determining the centre of pressure and the centre of mass;• Controlling and over-controlling oscillations: spectral interaction density;• Vectogram of the vertical forces;• Posture profile;• Brownian diffusion;• Asymmetry diagram;• Rehabilitation and biofeedback. Static and dynamic baropodometry:• Visualizing the sub plantar loads valorizing the Kpa;• Analyzing the phases of the step. Dramatic surprises in Men’s Superheavy

The 26th of September, last competition day, was full of surprises and happy outcomes mixed with unlucky moves causing injuries. We assisted to great fights within the 105kg and the +105kg bodyweight category. In Men's 105kg, Russia and Poland gained the most part of the medal competition. KLOKOV Dmitriy (RUS) silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 won a gold medal in Snatch and managed to take the silver in Total. The Polish lifter DOLEGA Marcin winner of the World Championships in 2009 took third place in Snatch, first place within Clean & Jerk, and kept his title by winning the gold medal in Total with 415kg. The other Russian athlete SMORCHKOV Vladimir won the bronze medal. In the +105kg injuries happened frequently, and in case the German VELAGIC Almir just like CHIGISHEV Evgeny (RUS) gold medalist at the European Championships 2010 got injured and weren't able to perform in Clean & Jerk. This was a blessed fortune in misfortune for the podium winners. The Iranian lifter SALIMIKORDASIABI Behdad, first in Snatch, second in Clean & Jerk, and gold medalist in Total performed 30kg more than his result during the World Championships of 2009. STEINER Matthias (GER), Olympic gold medalist in Beijing 2008 took the second place and celebrated his victory with great enthusiasm. Third place went to UDACHYN Artem (UKR) who won silver in Snatch and kept his bronze in Total.

Women wind up WWC with brilliant finish

Women's competition ended on the 9th Competition day with the +75kg bodyweight category. From beginning till the end of the Championships women were unstoppable and continued performing World Records. KASHIRINA Tatiana (RUS) broke all 3 junior World Records with 145kg in Snatch, 170kg in Clean & Jerk and 315kg in the Total. Her performance in Snatch allowed her to be the new record holder of the Senior World Record and made her won the gold in Total besides her first place in Snatch and her third place in Clean & Jerk. The Chinese lifter MENG Suping finished silver medalist with a Total of 310kg, while the third place was attributed to JANG Mi-Ran (KOR) Olympic Gold medalist in Beijing 2008. On the same day, Men's competition continued with the 94kg category with Russia's overwhelming success. IVANOV Alexander (Russia) lifted 185kg in Snatch and also won the gold in Total with 403kg approaching the end of the Championships in Antalya. This was just 1kg more than IVANOV Artem's (UKR) result of 402kg in Total. The Ukrainian lifter attempted to break KAKHIASVILIS Akakios's longstanding World Record of 188kg in Snatch, but couldn't perform a good lift and closely missed. IWF Intercontinental Club Grand-Prix

The International Weightlifting Federation is pleased to announce that from the 10th until the 16th of December 2010 Penang, Malaysia will host the IWF Intercontinental Club Grand-Prix. The event will be a Qualification Event for the 2012 Olympic Games. Best teams will receive Prize Money in both Men and Women competitions.
