The XIXth Commonwealth Games

The Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games took place on the 3rd of October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Hosted by New Delhi, India, it is the XIXth Commonwealth Games and the largest multi-sport event ever conducted to date in this city. Under the motto “Come out and Play”, 71 Commonwealth Teams are participating in 17 disciplines with about 8,000 athletes. Weightlifting competitions started on 4th October, and will last until 11th of October. 36 countries and 204 athletes will compete during the 9 days event. We wish successful competition to all Weightlifters and Teams! Besides Dr. Tamás Aján, IWF President and IOC Honorary Member; Raja Randhir Singh, IOC Member and Prince Albert of Monaco were present at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex watching the Women’s 48 kg Weightlifting Final during the first day of Competition at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games on the 4th of October. IOC honours IWF Director with Achievement Diploma

Mrs. Anikó Németh-Móra, Director & Chief of Protocol of the IWF was honored to be awarded the IOC “Women and Sport” Achievement Diploma in recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting the development and participation of women and girls in sport.  As an advocate of the recognition of Women’s Weightlifting she was lobbying hard for women competition to be part of the Weightlifting Competitions at the Olympic Games. The IOC encourages and supports the promotion of women in sport at all levels and in all structures, with a view to implementing the principle of equality. UAE launches its Women’s Team

United Arab Emirates Weightlifting Federation is now developing its Women's Team. Since Women competition was introduced at the World Championships inthe Unites States in 1987, as the 1st among the Gulf States, UAE launched and competed with a Women Team. During the World Weightlifting Championships in Antalya AL BALOOSHI Alia Ali (in the 53kg bodyweight category), AL BALOOSHI Ayesha and SALEH Muna Ahmed  (both in the 58kg bodyweight category) represented UAE within Group C. The IWF wants to record this move as a welcome effort appreciating the girls’ contributions, who did their best in the competition. Education Program in Antalya

For the 5th time since the IWF has launched its Education Program it is running as a great success. The most recent edition of the lectures took place during the 2010 World Weightlifting Championships in Antalya on the 18th and the 22nd of September with translators working simultaneously in 4 languages: Chinese, Spanish, Russian and French. Renowned and experienced lecturers were present such as:Mr. Kyle Pierce, Professor in the Kinesiology and Health Science Department at the Louisiana State University in Shreveport started on Ethical issues and the Olympic Movement.Mr. Sam Coffa, IWF Vice President, Chairman of the Technical Committee discussed Technical issues and rule modifications in Weightlifting.Mr. Attila Ádámfi, Competition Director of the IWF talked about another aspect of Technical issues and comptition management.To conclude, Dr. Ágnes Tiszeker, Director of the Hungarian Anti-Doping Organization and medical doctor gave up to date information on anti-doping related news and regulations. She presented the downsides of doping under medical and sporting terms as well. In order to best meet your expectations, we are improving our Program and Methods from one Seminar to the other. We would like to draw your attention to the importance of these sessions for the athletes and coaches in order to give them broader information about Weightlifting related topics.
