The 2011 IWF Youth World Championships started in Lima, Peru

The first official day of the 2011 IWF Youth World Championships held in Lima, Peru ended yesterday, 10 May 2011. The start list has been published on the IWF website. Altogether 204 athletes (87 women and 117 men) from 34 different countries will participate. The Opening Ceremony took place at the central square of Miraflores district in Lima, Peru where besides the Vice Mayor of Lima, and the President of the Peruvian National Sport Institute, Mr. Jose Quinones, President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation and of the Peruvian Olympic Committee delivered a welcome speech and warmly greeted all participants. Representing the IWF, Vice President Mr. Nicu Vlad welcomed the delegations and officially opened this second edition of the Youth World Championships. Following the Opening Ceremony, a reception was held, where all the countries were represented. The 2011 IWF Youth World Championships started today with the competitions of the boys' 50kg category with a good lift of Flavio Lahuanampa from Peru. Lima is ready for the Youth World Championships

Jose Quiñones, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee and President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation is handling the preparation of the 2nd Youth World Championships held in the city of Lima, Peru. With hard Team work, great conditions will be ensured by the organizers in order to make this great event a real success. During her technical visit Ms. Éva Moska, IWF Assistant to President expressed her contentment in regard to the encouraging progress in preparations. "Everything is ready and the organizers are waiting for the participants to arrive." - said Mr. Jose Quiñones who finalized the last details with his Team. More than 200 lifters are expected to compete at the 2nd Youth World Championships taking place at the Maria Angola Convention Center. Hosting the 2017 Summer Universiade enjoys great interest

The 2nd May, at midnight, was the deadline for submitting the candidatures for the 2017 Winter and Summer Universiades. FISU is extremely pleased to inform you that for the 2017 Summer Universiade, official candidatures were received from Kocaeli (TUR), Brasilia (BRA) and Taipei City (TPE). For the 2017 Winter Universiade, FISU received a candidature from the cities of Trento (ITA) and Almaty (KAZ). Weightlifting will make its first appearance on the program of Summer Universiades in 2011, and we have the pleasure to announce that it remains on program for the 2013 edition. On May 18th, 2011, the candidate cities will be invited to Brussels to participate in a workshop. The Games will be attributed in November 2011. Source: Eric Saintrond FISU Secretary

IWF Technical Visit in Kosice

IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján and IWF Competition Director Attila Ádámfi had a technical visit in the city of Kosice, Slovakia where the 3rd Youth World Championships will be held in 2012 September. IWF representatives were welcomed by the President of the Slovakian Weightlifting Federation Pavel Mutafov, the Vice President Ján Stefanik, Technical Director Stefan Korpa and Head Coach Rudolf Lukac. Great conditions will be provided by the organizers, and the city of Kosice fulfills all requirements in order to deliver very successful Youth World Championships. Major of Kosice Richard Rasi had a highly profitable meeting with the IWF delegates and the Slovakian Weightlifting Federation at the City Hall. He expressed his great contentment about hosting such a great event and about the importance of initiating the young generation to sporting activities. The IWF delegates left Kosice with a very positive impression in regard to the professionalism of the current Slovakian leadership acting with reactivity in order to satisfy all preparation needs of the Youth World
