The 2011 IWF Youth World Championships started in Lima, Peru

The first official day of the 2011 IWF Youth World Championships held in Lima, Peru ended yesterday, 10 May 2011. The start list has been published on the IWF website. Altogether 204 athletes (87 women and 117 men) from 34 different countries will participate.

The Opening Ceremony took place at the central square of Miraflores district in Lima, Peru where besides the Vice Mayor of Lima, and the President of the Peruvian National Sport Institute, Mr. Jose Quinones, President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation and of the Peruvian Olympic Committee delivered a welcome speech and warmly greeted all participants.

Representing the IWF, Vice President Mr. Nicu Vlad welcomed the delegations and officially opened this second edition of the Youth World Championships. Following the Opening Ceremony, a reception was held, where all the countries were represented.

The 2011 IWF Youth World Championships started today with the competitions of the boys’ 50kg category with a good lift of Flavio Lahuanampa from Peru.
