Education Seminar and ADAMS training in Tashkent

The IWF will hold an educational seminar in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in the frame of the IWF Education Program. We kindly invite all our Member Federations to participate! The seminar is going to be held on 10th April, 2013 in the morning (more details will be published on the spot) in Hotel Uzbekistan. This time the main topic will be the recently approved IWF Constitution, Technical & Competition Rules and Anti-Doping Policy, furthermore we will give detailed information on the Qualification system for the YOG 2014. The main purpose of this seminar is to ensure that all sport leaders are familiar with the text and the content of the IWF Constitution and content of the new Rules. On the same day, we will organize an interactive ADAMS training to clarify key points in relation to ADAMS, including information on athlete whereabouts requirements and updated submission reports. Russian delegation discusses Congress with IWF

A delegation of the Russian Weightlifting Federation hosting the IWF Electoral Congress in May paid a two-day visit to Budapest to discuss and co-ordinate the preparations of this important event. Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President and the IWF Secretariat Members received the delegation consisting of Mr. Sergey Syrtsov, RWF President, Mr. Alexander Gerasimenko, Chairman of the RWF Supervisory Committee and Mr. Anton Kislyakov, Vice President and officially signed the Agreement on the organisation of the Congress, which will take place in the most prestigious Radisson Royal Moscow "Ukraina" Hotel, on 20th and 21st May

Gold medal winner Jimenez dies

Soraya Jimenez, the weightlifter who won a gold medal in 2000 in Sydney to become Mexico's first female Olympic champion, has died of a heart attack. She was 35. The Mexican Olympic Committee released a statement Thursday saying it was ''in mourning'' following Jimenez's death. After retiring from weightlifting because of various injuries, Jimenez became a sportscaster for the Televisa television network. In the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Maria Espinoza won a gold medal in taekwondo, the only other Mexican woman to win an Olympic gold. MEXICO CITY (AP) Source

Kazan Universiade marks 100 days to go

March 28 - There are just 100 days to go until the 2013 Universiade in the Russian city of Kazan, and as the Games draw nearer, the Universiade flame is making its way across the country, and will today begin its journey from Yakutsk to 2019 Winter Universiade bidding city, Krasnoyarsk. The inaugural Universiade Torch Relay kicked off in July last year when the flame set-off from Paris-Sorbonne University in France - which held the first World Student Games in 1923 - and travelled 45,000 nautical miles and crossed five continents by boat to the Russian port city of Vladivostok. A press conference was held in Yakutsk, the capital of the Republic of Sakha in North-Eastern Russia, today to mark the beginning of the third stage of the Torch Relay on Russian soil, attended by Oleg Matytsin, FISU 1st vice-president and President of the Russian Student Sports Union (RSSU), Mikhail Gulyaev, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Arkady Karbaev, director of the Cultural and Social Programmes Department of the Kazan 2013 executive directorate, and Yakutsk's torchbearer Kunduyana Gerasimova. Matytsin spoke of the Torch Relay debut and declared it a success that will become a part of the Universiade for years to come. "On behalf of FISU, I would like to thank the Kazan 2013 Organising Committee for the initiatives taken in the build-up to the Games, one of which is the idea of holding the Torch Relay," he said. "I'm positive that this initiative will become a tradition and the next cities that will be hosting the World University Games will welcome the Universiade Torch in the same big way. A press conference was held today in Yakutsk to celebrate the beginning of the third stage of the Universiade Torch Relay and the countdown reaching 100 days to go to the 2013 Kazan Universiade "Thanks to the relay, people on all continents found out what the 2013 Summer Universiade is, and now the flame is travelling through Russia." The FISU vice-president also paid tribute to Yakutsk's contribution towards the Torch Relay. "I express my gratitude to you and I hope that we will see a great celebration," he said. "It's quite symbolic that Yakutsk will hand the flame over to Krasnoyarsk, the candidate city to host the 2019 Winter Universiade." Kazan 2013 executive director Arkady Karbaev also expressed his gratitude to the people of Yakutsk and for all the cities involved in the Torch Relay. "We are pleased that all selected cities assist us and are eager to embrace the Universiade project," he said. "I congratulate you all on 100 days to go until the start of our Universiade. "I'm glad that here, in Yakutsk, we are the first in Russia to celebrate this festive occasion. "I thank all citizens of this beautiful city for being part of this large-scale event."
