Two more flagbearers for weightlifting / KATOATAU and DETENAMO

Kiribati’s Golden Boy, David Katoatau, will be his country’s flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Pacific Games in Port Moresby next weekend. David created history at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last year; when he won Kiribati first ever medal at a Commonwealth Games. David has won 6 gold medals at Mini Games and Pacific Games, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze. David is now the 3rd weightlifter confirmed to carry the flag at the Games. At a bodyweight of 180kg, Itte Detenamo is considered to be one of the heaviest weightlifters in the world. Itte also holds every record in the +105kg category in the Oceania and Commonwealth. Itte is the fourth regional world class lifter to be selected to carry the flag for his country Nauru at the Pacific games starting next week-end in Port Moresby. He began is lifting career at the age of nine. Weightlifter Vaivai selected as Fiji’s Pacific Games flagbearer

Fiji’s weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai has been selected to be Fiji’s flagbearer in the Pacific Games. Fiji Team Chef De Mission Cathy Wong says they have selected Vaivai because she won a bronze medal in last year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Wong says Vaivai is the best performing athlete which Fiji has had since the last Pacific Games. Vaivai is also an International Olympic Committee Rio 2016 Scholarship recipient and is currently training at the Oceania Regional Training Centre in New Caledonia. Vaivai is a gold medal prospect for Fiji in the Pacific Games. Meanwhile, the first batch of 221 athletes is expected to leave the country this Wednesday. FSM Flagbearer is a weightlifter

The most decorated male weightlifter in the history of Pacific Games, Manuel Minginfel, from FSM, has been selected as the flag bearer for his country at next week's Opening Ceremony of the 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby, PNG. Manuel's first appearance at a Pacific Games was at the Mini Games in Pago Pago in 1997. Since that time, he has competed in every single Pacific Games and Mini Games, winning a total of 19 gold medals and 5 silver medals. Manuel is also four times Olympian. Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. He is also a silver medallist at the World Championships in 2006 in Santo Domingo - Dominican Republic. Most of his medals have been won in the 62kg category. In addition to all of this, Manuel won the World Masters World Cup in his first year as a Master - which was held in Penang two years ago. In Port Moresby, next week, Manuel will be competing for the first time in a new bodyweight category for him - 69kg

2015 IWF Junior World Championships Wroclaw, POL Overall

Weightlifting’s major Junior event returned to Poland for the 4th time. The country has proven to be an excellent host of major events on many occasions organizing three Junior World Championships in 1976, 1995 and 1996. As a testimony of their professionalism, they also showcased Senior World Championships six times already from 1913, 1959, 1969, 1996, 2002 and 2013. The talented and dynamic leadership of the Polish Federation - PZPC - under President Szymon Kolecki displayed clear vision and perspectives reaching beyond the borders of Poland. They once again proved great organizational skills and a warm hospitality. Altogether 236 athletes from 41 countries competed at the 2015 IWF Junior World Championships Wroclaw, POL. The exact number was 96 Women from 29 countries against 135 Men from 35 countries. JIANG Huihua (CHN) was the only one setting records. Competing in the 48kg bodyweight category, she broke her compatriot’s - TIAN Yuan’s (CHN) – Youth World Records from the 2010 IWF World Championships Antalya, TUR in the Snatch as well as in the Total. She raised them to 92kg and 205kg respectively. According to the Team Classification, the first 6 best performing Men and Women Team stood up on stage during the Closing Ceremony to receive a special award. Women Team Classification from 1st to 6th: CHN, RUS, MEX, TUR, EGY and USA. Men Team Classification from 1st to 6th: RUS, POL, COL, JPN, CHN and TUR. The IWF Media Trophy of Best Lifter within Women was awarded to AHMED Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed (EGY) while for Men; the winner was the Russian KHUGAEV Khetag (RUS) – both of them also Youth Olympic Champions in 2014 Nanjing. Watch out cause we might even see some of these young athletes at the 2015 IWF World Championships in Houston, and witness these stars of tomorrow prior to their eventual participating in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
