IRAWAN World Champion

IRAWAN Eko Yuli (INA), who was on the latest edition of WORLD WEIGHTLIFTING magazine, confirmed he deserved to be there: after winning the Asian Games, he became World Champion setting a World Record on the way. The 29-year-old winner has already 2 Olympic Bronze Medals and a Silver one. He has several World Championships Medals, but he has not been able to win the Gold yet. On Saturday in Ashgabat, he corrected this shortfall with three Gold Medals in the 61kg bodyweight category. In the Snatch, he only got close to the World Standard, but in the Clean and Jerk, he didn’t stop until setting one the World at 174kg. In the Total, IRAWAN first recorded 313, then went for 317kg. "I am very happy to win the World Championships for the first time, and this is what I expected from myself." - IRAWAN said shortly after the competition. Two Chinese lifters joined him on the podium: with 310kg, previously Junior World Champion LI Fabin as Silver Medallist and Bronze Medallist QUIN Fulin with 308kg. World Records Fall in the Women’s 49kg

There was a tense competition between four lifters, two Thai and two Chinese in the women’s 49kg bodyweight category. Rio 2016 Olympic Champion and 2017 World Champion TANASAN Sopita (THA) took the lead in the Snatch. With three good lifts she secured a Gold Medal setting the new World Record at 93kg. HUO Zhihui (CHN) ended with the same result in the Snatch. She missed one attempt at 92kg. Her compatriot (still Junior) JIANG Huihuan ended up third, setting a Junior World Record with her 87kg first attempt. JIANG made it a good lift with her second attempt at 90kg as well as the third at 92kg. TANASAN missed her last attempt at 109kg. Her last secured lift was 108kg landing her forth in both the Clean and Jerk and in the Total. „I am happy with today’s result. I did not expect any more or less” – she said following the competition. PRAMONGKHOL Chayuttra (THA) proved to be undefeatable in the Clean and Jerk. She only came out twice hitting the highest numbers. Going for 115kg and 120kg, she defeated the HUO Zhihui. The Chinese lifter came up second in both the Clean and Jerk and in the Total (208kg). PRAMONGKHOL Chayuttra (THA) set two World Records - to 120kg in the Clean and Jerk and to 209 in the Total while winning the Gold. Bronze Medal also went to China as JIANG Huihua ended with 206kg. She set 7 Junior World Records in this single event, beating her own World Record with every lift.

IWF Education Seminar in Ashgabat

 In the framework of the IWF Education Program, a seminar was held in Ashgabat on 3 November, in conjunction with the World Championships. Mr. Maged Salama, coaching expert gave a successful lecture on best practices for coaches when determining the timing and yearly planning of training. Participants were extremely active, during and after the lesson questions of athletes and coaches regarding of recovery, nutrition and training intensity were answered. As a second topic, participants heard a detailed explanation of the whereabouts, its importance, process of submission, whereabouts failures and last but not least what to do in case of technical problems. Moreover, the new iLiftClean - Anti-Doping Education Course was presented. On this e-learning platform, athletes can watch 3 videos about Whereabouts obligation of the Athlete, Doping Control Process and Rules of Therapeutic Use Exemption. After completing a short test, the ones who successfully solve the quiz, receive an IWF certificate, valid for one year after the day of completion. All athletes participating at the WWC 2018 shall compete the iLiftClean E-Learning Anti-doping Course. At the end of the seminar, the athletes had the opportunity to do the iLiftClean Course with the help of the IWF staff. IWF Statement – Women’s 45kg bodyweight category

Due to consecutive mistakes made by the coach and some Technical Officials in the Women’s 45kg bodyweight category at the second attempt in the Clean and Jerk (104kg) of DZHUMABAYEVA Yulduz (TKM), the International Weightlifting Federation arranged a meeting with the Technical Officials involved. Following discussions, and in order not to harm the athlete’s achievement, a unanimous decision was taken that the second Clean and Jerk attempt (104kg) was accepted as good lift.
