Iranian Gold in the men’s 96kg

The Olympic and World Champion MORADI Sohrab became World Champion again after last year's victory in the men’s 96kg bodyweight category and set three World Records. The 30-year-old Iranian, after lifting 181kg in the Snatch and missing the first attempt at 186kg, successfully broke the World Standard with his third attempt at the same weight. In the Clean and Jerk, MORADI set the Clean and Jerk World Record at 230kg, while the Total Record at 416kg. He couldn’t go up to 237kg, neither could his challenger TIAN Tao (CHN) execute his attempt at 236kg. Olympic Silver Medallist in 2016, TIAN got three Silver Medals with 181kg, 226kg, and 407kg in Total. The three Bronze Medals went to lifters from three different Nations. Seven Medallist in the Men’s 89kg

The men’s 89kg bodyweight category was one of the rare competitions when seven lifters were awarded medals after a fierce battle and only 3kg difference between the first and sixth place. If the Armenian MKRTCHYAN Hakob had successfully completed his last lift, he would have won, but missing it he finished seventh with 365kg. Two lifters made it double among the seven winning two medals each: winner of the Snatch and Total OKULOV Artem (RUS) and winner of the Clean and Jerk and second in Total KHADASEVICH Pavel (BLR). OKULOV, 2015 World Champion won after ranking eight in the Snatch with 166kg. However, in the Clean and Jerk, he was the only one to bare 206kg, with a Total of 372kg, he is the World Champion. "I wanted to win three Golds, but I am completely happy with two! A great day for me!" - OKULOV KHADASEVICH was second with 371kg and Georgian DAVITADZE Revaz had the same result, who got the Bronze Medal despite being fourth in the Snatch and fifth in the Clean and Jerk. DAVITADZE set three Junior World Records, just like Venezuelan VALLENILLA SANCHEZ Keydomar Giovanni, but the latter only got the sixth place with 369kg. World Champion in 2017, MENDEZ PEREZ Arley (CHI) managed the same weight, fifth in Total, but he claimed the Gold in the Snatch

ZHANG Wangli (CHN) took it all in the women’s 71kg

Just like in the 64kg, China won all three Gold Medals in the women's 71kg. The 2016 Asian Champion, ZHANG Wangli got close to the World Standard with 115kg in the Snatch, but in the Clean and Jerk, after lifting 140kg, she set the World Record at 147kg, then 152kg. This meant she beat the Total World Standard too, with 262kg and 267kg. With 6 excellent lifts, she finished way ahead of her competitors. "I came here to set World Records and win the World Championships. I got everything I wanted"  - ZHANG Wangli Ending 15kg behind her, AHMED Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed (EGY). The 2016 Olympic Bronze Medallist and Junior World Champion this year achieved a Junior World Record with her third lift in the Snatch (111kg) and kept up the great performance in the Clean and Jerk, with 136 and 141kg, which is the new Junior World Record. Moreover, she changed the order of the best Total results twice: 247 and 252kg. Third in Total Kazakh LIKHACHEVA Nadezda with 242kg, who also won the Snatch Silver with 112kg. ROGERS Martha Ann (USA), third on the 2017 World Championships claimed the Clean and Jerk Bronze Medal with a 133kg

Did you check your list? – IWF Anti-Doping Seminar

The second Anti-Doping Education seminar was held on the 5th November 2018 focusing on the most important anti-doping responsibilities of a Weightlifter.   The topic of the lecture was „Checklist for Weightlifters” which included all the obligations of the Athletes related to whereabouts submission and TUE application. Useful information and the iLiftClean E-learning Education platform was introduced to the participants which actually contains these topics plus the Doping Control Process. All Athletes competing at the Event shall complete the test.   During the week of the World Championships Athletes will have the possibility to complete the iLiftClean Course in the Training Hall and at the IWF Outreach. Education materials were provided by the Japan Anti-Doping Agency considered as a potential NADO partner due to the Tokyo2020 Olympic

IWF joins the International Testing Agency (ITA)

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the International Testing Agency (ITA) have signed a partnership whereby the ITA will take responsibility for key areas of the IWF’s anti-doping programme. The ITA’s remit includes carrying out a detailed risk assessment, test distribution planning and management, out of competition testing, Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) management, and support with regard to the IWF’s education programmes. Under the agreement, which was signed at the 2018 IWF World Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the ITA will begin its work on 1 January 2019. Working closely together, the ITA will expand its role to include in-competition testing, management of the IWF Athlete Biological Passport programme, result management, and long term storage and re-analysis of samples by September 2019. This partnership is another clear example of the IWF’s commitment to anti-doping, and the importance it places on educating athletes, coaches and spectators. Following the announcement, IWF President Tamás Aján said: “We are very pleased to be partnering with the ITA and will benefit greatly from their independent, world-leading expertise in delivering anti-doping programmes. We are committed to protecting clean athletes and ensuring our anti-doing testing is more accurate, more efficient and more transparent. “We have made excellent progress in recent years and would like to express our gratitude to the CCES who have played a key role in strengthening our anti-doping operations. “We look forward to working closely with the ITA as we continue on our path to ensuring clean weightlifting” Benjamin Cohen, Director General of the ITA, said: “We are proud to announce our latest partnership with the IWF. DENG Wei, four times World Champion

In the women’s 64kg bodyweight category, 2016 Olympic Champion DENG Wei (CHN) won with a significant, 13kg advance, becoming a four-time World Champion. The 25-year-old lifter first showed her talent in the Snatch, with 112kg and won setting a new World Record. In the Clean and Jerk, she did 140kg, also World Record and rewrote the order of the top results three times with 247, 250 and 252kg. Four lifters were standing on the podium with her. In the Snatch, Romanian World and European Champion TOMA Loredana-Elena, second with 110kg and Kazakh KAEINA Goricheva with 107kg. In the Clean and Jerk WAMALUN Rattanawan (THA) came up second after DENG with 137kg, while the Bronze went to 2016 Junior World Champion RIM Un Sim (PRK).
