2019 British Weightlifting Championships starts today!

The 2019 British Weightlifting Championships will take place at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry between June 8-9. This is the most prestigious event on the British Weight Lifting calendar and this year the championships are an official qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, adding a new level of competitiveness and media spotlight with athletes attending from around the world, competing to secure their place in Tokyo. Kazakh victory in the women’s 87kg

The women's 87kg, the ranking was persistent, Kazakh AKHMEROVA Darya took the gold medals, Russian RIAZANOVA Daria clinched the silvers and YU Ssu-Han came in third. AKHMEROVA, 2018 European Junior champion lifted 102kg in the Snatch, with three good attempts, and RIAZANOVA was left only one kilogram behind her. Slightly behind the two, YU finished at 84kg. In the Clean and Jerk, the Kazakh lifter gained an 8kg advantage, lifting 133kg she rounded up her Total to 236kg, while the ones behind her totaled 227kg and 192kg

DJURAEV is Junior World Champion!

DJURAEV Akbar took home three gold medals in the men's 109kg bodyweight category competition in Suva, Fiji. The 19-year-old Uzbek did not miss a lift, although, he didn't come out for his third Clean and Jerk attempt, as he already won the Junior World Champion title. With 182kg in the Snatch, 216kg in the Clean and Jerk and 398kg Total, he had a 14kg advantage over second finisher HWANG Sangun (KOR). DJURAEV also recently clinched a silver medal at these years Asian Championships. The Korean lifter was fourth in the Snatch but worked his way up to the second place in the Clean and Jerk with a 210kg lift, missing his last attempt at 215kg. Russian VAGAITSEV Daniil was overall third, making up his final score of 381kg of a 175kg Snatch, picking up a silver medal in this lift, and a 206kg Clean and Jerk (bronze).

IWF reports that the sample of Ms Bilikis Abiodun OTUNLA (NGR) has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for metenolone and metenolone metabolite -1-methylene-5α-androstane-3α-ol-17-one (S1.1 Anabolic agents). As a consequence, the Athlete is provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation. In any case, where it is determined that the Athlete did not commit an anti-doping rule violation, the relevant decision will also be published. Angus Kinnear Appointed New Chair of British Weight Lifting

British Weight Lifting has announced the appointment of the Leeds United CEO, Angus Kinnear as the new Independent Chairman of the Board. Fresh from a successful season, which saw Leeds narrowly miss out on promotion to the Premier League, Angus brings a wealth of sporting, marketing and commercial expertise and an understanding of both professional, Olympic and Paralympic sport to the organization.  He has worked within the broader sport sector including being on the Board of Commonwealth Games England for a five-year period. Angus replaces Peter Rowley OBE who completed a five-year tenure and recent interim Chair Patrick Roberts.   “I can see real potential for weightlifting and feel the opportunities to help BWL continually reshape and develop domestically and Internationally are enormous. 2019 IWF World Championships Documents are up

The competition documents for the 2019 IWF World Championships, Pattaya, THA, 16–27 September were uploaded. The Regulations and Forms can be downloaded by the following link: IWF World Championships, Pattaya, THA   Please note Article 5.6.5 of the IWF Anti-Doping Policy which will be applicable for this Event: „An Athlete who is not listed on the IWF’s Registered Testing Pool but wishes to participate in an IWF Event shall provide accurate and complete whereabouts information as set out at Annex I of the International Standard for Testing and Investigations for a period of at least three months prior to the IWF Event in question (IWF World Championships). An Athlete who does not comply with this provision is not eligible to compete at the IWF Event.” Therefore, please make sure that the whereabouts information of your Athletes wishing to compete at IWF World Championships is properly submitted until the 18 JUNE 2019 and throughout the whole competition. Please note that this applies to Reserve Athletes as well, therefore whereabouts information of Reserve Athletes shall be provided in ADAMS too.
