MORADI makes World Records fall

MORADI Sohrab (IRI) confident in the Snatch with three good lifts ended first with a 1kg advantage over SOBIROV Farkhodbek (UZB). SOBIROV couldn’t secure a Total and missed his three Clean and Jerk attempts. The first attempt of MORADI in the Clean and Jerk was 220kg so he went for the World Records with his second one. He set a New World Record in the Clean and Jerk with 233kg – breaking the previous one of KOLECKI Szymon (POL) being 232kg. He also broke his own Total World Record setting it to 417kg. An incredible Silver Medal for Qatar as ELBAKH Fares Ibrahim E. H. (QAT) lifted 220kg in the Clean and Jerk. Ranking only 11th in the Snatch with 1 successful lift, he couldn’t grab a medal in the Total where he finished 4th. Chile’s first ever medal is GOLD

MENDEZ PEREZ Arley (CHI) gave Chile its first ever medal at the World Championships. In 2015, Chile's best result was an 8th place in the Snatch in the Women's 75kg, by VALDES PARIS Maria Fernanda (CHI). He took a 1kg advantage over Olympic Champion ROSTAMI Kianoush (IRI) with 175kg. The Iranian lifter – having a knee injury – couldn’t secure a Total after missing his three attempts in the Clean and Jerk. MENDEZ PEREZ had only 1 successful attempt in the Clean and Jerk. After securing his gold with 203kg, he gave 214kg a try before attempting to break the World Record. Both of his attempts failed but he still stood on the highest place of the podium three times. ZWARYCZ Krzysztof Maciej (POL) won his second world championships medal. He took bronze in the Snatch in the 77kg bodyweight category in 2013. The only Polish lifter to claim medals in the 85kg is ZIELINSKI Adrian (POL), who won one world title, two silver and two bronze medals in 2010 and 2011. ZWARYCZ was 4th in the Snatch but with a Clean and Jerk of 197kg and a Total of 359kg he got two Silver Medals. Three gold to three athlete

For the first time since 2007, multiple women claimed a gold medal in this weight category in a single edition of the world championships. Never before, three different women claimed a gold medal in this weight category. BEGAJ Romela (ALB) won the Gold in the Snatch with 107kg, AHMED Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed (EGY) won the Gold in the Clean and Jerk with 136kg while SOLIS ARBOLEDA Leidy Yessenia (COL) won the Gold in the Total with 239kg. SOLIS ARBOLEDA became the first athlete from South America to reach the world championships podium in this weight category. Snatch world champion Romela Begaj (ALB) became Albania's first ever world champion in women's weightlifting and Albania's second athlete to claim a world championships gold medal, after PAMPURI Ymez (ALB) who took the Press world title in the men's 60kg in 1972. ROGERS ended a 12-year Team USA women's world championship medal drought Sunday as she took all three bronze medals in the women's 69kg weight category. She became the first woman from USA to claim a medal since Cheryl Haworth (USA) claimed bronze in 2005 in the +75kg in 2005. Mattie made her first and second snatch attempts of 101kg and 104kg. MAHMOUD Mohamed Ihab Youssef Ahmed (EGY) made it to the top

MAHMOUD Mohamed Ihab Youssef Ahmed (EGY) became the first World Champion from Africa in a men's event since 1984, when OROK Oliver (NGR) won Snatch gold in the 100kg category. Bronze Medallist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with the same Total of 361kg, the African athlete took away the Gold from Asia – winning the 77kg bodyweight category since 2011. Silver Medallist REJEPOV Rejepbay (TKM) ended 9kg behind. He won all three available medals. Seventeen-year-old Harrison MAURUS Harrison James (USA) set a new Youth World Record and six new American Records, bronze medals in the Snatch and Total ending Team USA men's 20-year long medal drought at the World Championships. In the snatch, Maurus went 2 for 3, lifting 150kg then 155kg. He missed his final attempt at 159 kg. In the clean & jerk, MAURUS made both of his attempts. He first lifted 187kg then 193kg, setting a new Youth World Record. Maurus broke his own Youth World Record record of 192kg that he set when he won the 2017 Youth World Championships April 8th in Bangkok, Thailand. Won Jeongsik (KOR) became the first athlete from Korea to win a world title in the men's 69kg event. Prior to these world championships, Korea had won eight medals in this class but none were gold. Won was the first athlete to win the world title in both the Snatch and Total men's 69kg event since Liao Hui (CHN) in 2014. Doston Yoqubov (UZB) won the world title in the Clean & Jerk event, becoming the first athlete representing Uzbekistan to win a world title in another category than the men's 105kg. Yoqubov's previous best result was a seventh place in the Clean & Jerk event at the 2014 world championships. Korea and Uzbekistan became the sixth and seventh country to win a world title in a men's 69kg event. Bernardin Kingue Matam (FRA) claimed the bronze medal in the Total and the Clean & Jerk category - he was the second French athlete to win a medal in a men's 69kg event, after Vencelas Dabaya (FRA, G2-S1-B4). Tairat Bunsuk (THA, second in Total and Snatch) was the first athlete representing Thailand to win a medal in a men's 69kg event. Mirko Zanni (ITA) finished third in the Snatch event, becoming the first Italian athlete to win a medal in a men's event at the world championships since 1985. European Gold for TOMA

European Champion TOMA Loredana-Elena (ROU) had an incredibly balanced competition here in Anaheim. After three good lifts in the Snatch, she took a 7kg advantage over the other competitions in the Women’s 63kg bodyweight category. As a surprise, the Silver Medallist in the Snatch came from B Group CHARRON Maude G (CAN) lifting 102kg. She had good chances to reach the podium as she came very close to the leading lifters – however missed the podium by 1kg. Bronze Medal went to RIVAS ORDONEZ Lina Marcela (COL) with only one successful lift at 101kg. RIVAS still managed to maintain her third place in the Clean and Jerk, and her Total of 225kg was enough for the Silver. The other Colombian lifter PEREZ TIGRERO Mercedes Isabel made it third with two 4th places. She lifted 101kg in the Snatch, only one successful Clean and Jerk at 124kg and secured a Total of 225kg just like RIVAS and 4th place WAMALUN Rattanawan
