Changes in the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2014
Since the Presidency was taken over by Zhanat Tussupbekov, a lot of changes and projects were implemented to promote and develop weightlifting in Kazakhstan. In 2013 there were 6 regional weightlifting federations (hereafter RWFs) functioning on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. And only 3 of them were members of Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereafter WFRK). In 2014 RWFs were established in all 14 provinces of the country and in 2 cities of republican status. All 16 RWFs were welcomed into the ranks of WFRK and became full members of the republican weightlifting movement. Today functions of all RWFs are consolidated and directed for the purpose of weightlifting development. In 2014, a Sports and recreation complex was opened in Turkestan city and a specialized regional boarding school for children gifted in sports in Petropavlovsk was also inaugurated. A weightlifting gym was renovated and opened In Zyryanovsk town. For the past 6 months newly established Regional Weightlifting Federations were able to renovate sports facilities in various towns. WFRK plans the construction of the Palace of Weightlifting. The Palace is planned to be located either at Soldiers Gorge of Almaty Province (middle mountains) or at the resort area "Zerenda" of Akmola Province (plains). The budget of 45 Million USD (!) is currently projected and reviewed. Together with Zhanat Tussupbekov, WFRK President, Dr. Tamas Ajan will lay the First stone in the construction of the Palace of Weightlifting during the 2014 IWF World Championships in Almaty. In 2014, due to the efficiant management, new marketing model and new development strategy, there the number of athletes participating in competitions doubled in Kazakhstan. In collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers, a Development Strategy of the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan was prepared in compliance with the goals and objectives of the Development Program of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. IWF Anti-Doping Seminar in Almaty
Giving special attention to Anti-Doping Education, the IWF held a Seminar in Almaty, KAZ with over 70 participants to give wider information and guidance in the field of Anti-Doping. The following lecturers underlined the dangers of doping, the fight against it and the legal background given by Rules and Regulations: Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman, Dr. Maira Bakasheva, KAZ NADO Director, Dr. Magdolna Trombitas, IWF Legal Counsel. Topics such as the IWF Anti-Doping Strategy, new Rules and Regulations coming into effect in 2015, as well as the new WADA Code were discussed. The Experts spoke about important legal aspects of doping controls and new ways to fight the use of prohibited substances. “It is not only important to identify the use of prohibited substances, but to prevent it” said IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman Dr. Patrick Shamash. From January 1, 2015 the new Anti-Doping Code will come into force, providing more severe sanctions. In some cases, the suspension period for an athlete will be extended from two to four years. The entourage, doctors and coaches will be controlled and monitored closely. The Seminar was attended by members of Kazakhstan sports federations, teachers and students from the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, weightlifting coaches and athletes as well as Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President and Yelsiyar Kanagatov, Chairman of the Committee of Sports and Physical Culture. Technical Visit for the 2014 IWF World Championships
IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan, Legal Counsel Dr. Magdolna Trombitas and Communication & Marketing Manager Lilla Rozgonyi concluded the third Technical Visit in Almaty, Kazakhstan in preparation for the 2014 IWF World Championships. On the occasion of the visit, the topics related to the following fields were discussed and finalized: Competition venue display and design, press operations, presentation of the IWF sports Documentary, Anti-Doping educational stand etc. The delegation held meetings with Omar Mustafin, CEO of the Organizing Committee, Dimash Sultanov, Sport Director and representatives of the specific key areas.
