IWF Anti-Doping Seminar in Almaty

Giving special attention to Anti-Doping Education, the IWF held a Seminar in Almaty, KAZ with over 70 participants to give wider information and guidance in the field of Anti-Doping.

The following lecturers underlined the dangers of doping, the fight against it and the legal background given by Rules and Regulations:

Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman, Dr. Maira Bakasheva, KAZ NADO Director, Dr. Magdolna Trombitas, IWF Legal Counsel.

Topics such as the IWF Anti-Doping Strategy, new Rules and Regulations coming into effect in 2015, as well as the new WADA Code were discussed.

The Experts spoke about important legal aspects of doping controls and new ways to fight the use of prohibited substances.

“It is not only important to identify the use of prohibited substances, but to prevent it” said IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman Dr. Patrick Shamash.

From January 1, 2015 the new Anti-Doping Code will come into force, providing more severe sanctions. In some cases, the suspension period for an athlete will be extended from two to four years. The entourage, doctors and coaches will be controlled and monitored closely.

The Seminar was attended by members of Kazakhstan sports federations, teachers and students from the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, weightlifting coaches and athletes as well as Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President and Yelsiyar Kanagatov, Chairman of the Committee of Sports and Physical Culture.

The IWF will also held 2 Education Seminars during the 2014 IWF World Championships Almaty.
