IWF acclaims 85-year old Polish Federation

One of the oldest, strongest and most successful of the 187 IWF affiliated National Federations, the Polish Weightlifting Federation (PZPC) celebrated the 85th Anniversary of its Foundation on 9th October 2010.A commemorative Executive Committee meeting of the Federation took place under the chairmanship of Zygmunt Wasiela, President, in Spala, one of Poland's 7 top training centres.The celebrations included the inauguration of the new flag of the PZPC and the honouring of merited members of the Federation, in front of a distinguished audience, including Andrzej Krasnicki, President of the Polish Olympic Committee.The IWF was represented by Anikó Németh-Móra, Director and Chief of Protocol, who, in her speech on behalf of the IWF President highly acclaimed the remarkable achievements of Polish Weightlifting and presented a commemorative vase to President

New manufacturer for the IWF Referee Uniforms

The IWF is officially announcing that as of now the IWF Referee Uniforms are manufactured in Thailand, under the guidance and care of the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA - [email protected] ).   The TAWA Coordinator appointed to handle uniforms is Mr. Nippon Limboonsuebsai. IWF Club Coach Manual

During the IWF Congress held in Antalya, Turkey the First Level of the Club Coach Manual was presented to the attendees. As an aid to coaches and athletes it describes and lists weightlifting training methods, shows the methodology of preparation and discusses about medical, anti-doping and nutritional issues. At the initiative of the IWF Coaching & Research Committee the Manual was written by our highly estimated colleagues Mr. Kyle Pierce (USA), Mr. Lyn Jones (AUS) and Mr. Michael Keelan (AUS). The Chairman of the Coaching & Research Committee as well as the members contributed to the achievement of this Manual that is planned to be translated in several languages. The XIXth Commonwealth Games

The Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games took place on the 3rd of October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Hosted by New Delhi, India, it is the XIXth Commonwealth Games and the largest multi-sport event ever conducted to date in this city. Under the motto “Come out and Play”, 71 Commonwealth Teams are participating in 17 disciplines with about 8,000 athletes. Weightlifting competitions started on 4th October, and will last until 11th of October. 36 countries and 204 athletes will compete during the 9 days event. We wish successful competition to all Weightlifters and Teams! Besides Dr. Tamás Aján, IWF President and IOC Honorary Member; Raja Randhir Singh, IOC Member and Prince Albert of Monaco were present at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex watching the Women’s 48 kg Weightlifting Final during the first day of Competition at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games on the 4th of October. IOC honours IWF Director with Achievement Diploma

Mrs. Anikó Németh-Móra, Director & Chief of Protocol of the IWF was honored to be awarded the IOC “Women and Sport” Achievement Diploma in recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting the development and participation of women and girls in sport.  As an advocate of the recognition of Women’s Weightlifting she was lobbying hard for women competition to be part of the Weightlifting Competitions at the Olympic Games. The IOC encourages and supports the promotion of women in sport at all levels and in all structures, with a view to implementing the principle of equality. UAE launches its Women’s Team

United Arab Emirates Weightlifting Federation is now developing its Women's Team. Since Women competition was introduced at the World Championships inthe Unites States in 1987, as the 1st among the Gulf States, UAE launched and competed with a Women Team. During the World Weightlifting Championships in Antalya AL BALOOSHI Alia Ali (in the 53kg bodyweight category), AL BALOOSHI Ayesha and SALEH Muna Ahmed  (both in the 58kg bodyweight category) represented UAE within Group C. The IWF wants to record this move as a welcome effort appreciating the girls’ contributions, who did their best in the competition.
