Update of the International Referees list

We would like to kindly draw our National Federations' attention to the lists of International Referees Cat. 1 and 2 ever registered by the IWF that we sent out for verification on the 11th of October 2010. In order to update our data, we request you to check your country's list carefully and correct the possible mistakes. 30 Days Remaining Before Opening Ceremonies for the 16th Asian Games

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has 30 days remaining before the Opening Ceremonies of the Games on Friday, November 12. The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games. Games organizers and civic officials are in the final preparation work for the Games with all final construction within the city, including all final beautification projects, must be completed by November 1. More than 80 percent of the stadiums used for training and competition during the Games will be connected by subway trains. This includes an all-new subway line from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport - some 35 kilometers from downtown Guangzhou - linking the city of 10 million residents with the airport which has doubled in size in anticipation of the Games and future growth of the Pearl River Delta. The Asian Games Torch Relay has started from its lighting last week at the Great Wall from Beijing to 21 cities in Guangdong Province. It will also travel to Harbin in Heilongjiang, Changchun in Jilin and Haiyang in Shandong. More than 2,000 torch bearers ranging from 6 to 100 years old will participate in the one-month

Weightlifting Competition ended yesterday in Delhi

The Weightlifting Competition came to end yesterday in Delhi, India at the XIXth Commonwealth Games with the Men's +105kg bodyweight category.According to the Entry List, 204 weightlifters competed during the Games with the determination of winning medals for their countries. The competition proved to be exciting, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was full of curious spectators and knowledgeable professionals. The Minister of Sports Mr. M. S. Gill, the CWG 2010 Competition Manager for Weightlifting Mr. Kumbasi Subramanya and the President of Indian Weightlifting Federation Mr. B.P. Baishya M.P. were besides Dr. Tamás Aján IWF President in order to support athletes performing their attempts on stage. Among Women 33 Commonwealth Games Records and 2 Commonwealth Records were set, latest by Ele OPELOGE who broke her own Commonwealth Weightlifting Record in the Women's +75kg bodyweight category and won Samoa's second Gold medal!Men have reached 12 Commonwealth Games Records and the only Commonwealth Record was set by the Indian lifter Ravi Kumar KATULU in the 69kg bodyweight category while he performed his 3rd attempt in Snatch. There were 10 medal winning countries among Women, and within them Nigeria excelled with a total of 6 medals won. The ranking follows as: IND/4, CAN/3, AUS/2, CMR/1, ENG/1, MAS/1, SAM/1, SEY/1 and WAL/1. In Men's competition for the Gold, Silver and Bronze besides Malaysia, Indian lifters proved to be the bests by winning 4-4 medals altogether. The ranking follows as: AUS/3, CAN/2, NGR/2, NRU/2, NZL/2, SAM/2, SCO/2 and SRI/2. Total medals/countries follows as: IND/8, NGR/8, AUS/5, CAN/5, MAS/5, SAM/3, NRU/2, NZL/2, SRI/2, CMR/1, ENG/1, SCO/1, SEY/1 and WAL/1. Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation Electoral Congress

The Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation Electoral Congress was held in Delhi, India during the last day of Competition on the 11th of October 2010. The Banquet Hall of the Ashok Hotel gave place to the meeting where besides the IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján the Commonwealth Games Federation's two top officials Michael Fennell, President and Mike Hooper, CEO were also in attendance. During the Electoral Congress, Hon. Vinson Detenamo (NRU) was elected President by the attendees and Paul Coffa (AUS) as General Secretary unopposed. The Congress also voted to elect 6 Vice Presidents who are Matthew Curtain (AUS), Shri Birendra Prasad Baishya (IND), Dato Ong Poh Eng (MAS), Garry Marshall (NZL), Steve Cannon (ENG) and Kevin du Plooy (RSA). 2nd in Memoriam Tournament honours Janusz Przedpelski

A check of 3,000 dollars and a brand new set of ELEIKO barbells was the first prize of the 2nd International Tournament in Memoriam Janusz Przedpelski, that took place in a perfect technical and atmospheric setting in Spala, on 9th October 2010. The lineup included world champions and other prominent lifters from Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Latvia. The first prize was taken by Arsen Kasabiev (POL) but second-placed Aurimas Dzidzbalis (LTU) was also happy about his award: another set of ELEIKO barbell. The tournament was organised with excellence by the PZPC and financed as a whole by the friends and admirers of the late Janusz Przedpelski through donations and sponsorship.
