Together we can win this fight!

The second day of the IWF World Anti-Doping Conference pursued with presentations giving a useful knowledge to the participants in order to bring us closer our main goal: eradicating doping in sport and fight even more determinedly in the future. Ms. Sophie Berwick, Venue Cluster Manager for the River Zone area LOCOG gave up to date information on Anti-Doping at the London 2012 Olympic Games especially on testing and pre-testing during the weightlifting competition. Mr. Frédéric Donzé, WADA Director, European Regional Office and International Federations Relations gave an overview of ADAMS, its functionalities and benefits of implementation while its use will become obligatory for all IWF National Federations from 1st of April 2011. Prof. Haydar Demirel, Professor in Sports Medicine talked about Gene Doping and gave an interesting point of view in athletes' selection and on the ethical questions that genetic manipulation raises. It is our responsibility to offer every attendee the opportunity to receive answers to questions regarding the discussed topics therefore participants could raise their questions and initiate discussions with the lecturers. The exceptional speakers all recognized in their respective fields enlightened in their lectures attendees' interrogations in regard of a wide range of Anti-Doping related topics. All participants received and Certificate of Participation at the end of the sessions. "Our policy is aiming at a balance between controls, prevention and education and I am sure that with this conference we brought the awareness of the Weightlifting Family to a much higher standard. World Weightlifting’s Best Lifters of 2010

The Iranian athlete Behdad Salimikordasiabi has been named the Best Male Lifter of 2010, while the Best Female Lifter of 2010 became Svetlana Podobedova from Kazakhstan. They earned significant number of votes and received the "Jenő Boskovics Lifter of the Year Trophy" from IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján and the World Weightlifting Magazine's Editor in Chief Kornél Jancsó and Anikó Nemeth-Móra Senior Editor. The two winners were invited to Istanbul, Turkey at the IWF World Anti-Doping Conference, where they took over the Trophy in due solemnity for their remarkable achievements and their outstanding performances in the year

London 2012 Olympic Games: applications for tickets are open

Applications for London 2012 Olympic Games tickets are open. You can apply for tickets any time before 11.59pm on 26 April 2011. There is no advantage to submitting your application on the first day or the last day. First day of lectures at the IWF World Anti-Doping Conference

On the first day of the IWF World Anti-Doping Conference, Yunus Akgün Turkish Minister of Sport addressed a welcome speech to all participants. A high and rich program was presented in 4 sessions. 10 valuable and interesting lectures were heard. Dr. Tamás Aján, IWF President cast a historic perspective on the Anti-Doping activities in International Sports within the IWF. Chairmen of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission, Mr. Nicu Vlad emphasized that to work efficiently in our fight against doping, we have to focus on prevention and education. Dr. Mónika Ungár's highly informative presentation on the IWF's Anti-Doping Program titled "A success story?!" was very well received by the participants. Mr. Frédéric Donzé, WADA Director; European Regional Office and IF Relations gave a comprehensive overview of WADA's Anti-Doping activities. Head of the Hungarian NADO, Dr. Ágnes Tiszeker explained the Anti-Doping controls a testing agency's overview. Dr. Jaroslaw Krywanski made a presentation on the International Standards for Therapeutic Use Exemptions. Mr. Boris Kayser, Chairmen of the IWF Hearing Panel gave a detailed explanation of the rights and obligations connected with "A Fair Hearing". Delegates were keen to hear the latest Analytical Strategies for Detection in Elite Sport from Prof. Wilhelm Schänzer, Head of the Laboratory for Doping Analysis German Sports University Cologne. Dr. Michael Irani's lecture focused on the food supplements and their danger in causing a positive sample. IWF General Secretary Mr. Ma Wenguang informed the participants about the "Fight Against Doping in China".  

The IWF World Anti-Doping Conference was officially opened

The IWF World Anti-Doping Conference has been officially opened by Dr. Tamás Aján, IWF President and Dr. Hasan Akkus, President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation. More than 150 participants from 92 countries participate in this significant event. "In the IWF's 34 years of unrelenting and intensive fight against doping, this World Conference is an extremely important landmark.
