Weightlifting for Sports, Club Coach concluded in Halmstad

IWF EWF “Weightlifting for Sports, Club Coach” ended on 9 June 2013 in Halmstad Sweden. The launch of this course is a result of International Weightlifting Federation and the European Weightlifting Federation implementing a standard coaching curriculum for all coaches. The first level of the course out of the four concluded with 36 Participants from 19 Countries and 14 Sports. The course gives the possibility to broaden knowledge for Strength & Conditioning /Sports Performance Practitioners, Health & Fitness Professionals, Crossfitters and Sports Coaches. The aim of “Weightlifting for Sports, Club Coach” is to provide Coaches with the ability to introduce participants to the sport of Weightlifting, the technique of the Clean and Jerk, the Snatch and associated exercises. SASCOC reveals latest Olympic, Paralympic support plans

SASCOC on Wednesday announced their latest and updated athlete support system for the country’s leading Olympic and Paralympic sportsmen and women at a function at Olympic House, Johannesburg. This follows a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games in London last year where our Olympians returned with six medals and our Paralympians won 29 medals. Immediately after the London Games, the country’s Olympic governing body wasted no time in turning its attention to the next quadrennial period leading up to the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Operation Excellence (OPEX) is the premier programme for prospective Olympic and Paralympic medalists and the programme consists of three different tiers which provide varying degrees of funding and support. A total of 13 athletes on the Olympic Programme and 14 athletes on the Paralympic Programme will be part of the Tier One structure and exciting news is that there is now added special support for athletes who may not be ranked sufficiently high enough but are nevertheless preparing for 2014 Commonwealth Games qualification. Alps-Adria Cup in Sarajevo

A significant competition, the 49th Alps-Adria Tournament was held in Sarajevo on the 1st June 2013. The host city Sarajevo and the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave very good hospitality for the participating teams and organized a successful tournament. Teams participated from the following countries: 1. Bosnia and Herzegovina 2. Croatia 3. Italy In the competition of Female and Youth - Bosnia and Herzegovina took gold medals (Olivera Juric and Nermin Zecic), while in the Junior and Senior, Croatia took gold medals (Silvio Bijelic and Daniel Andonov). New grouping for IFs – Weightlifting upgraded

On the occasion of the IOC EB-ASOIF Joint Meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, the IOC presented the new grouping of the 28 sports federations on the programme of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio 2016. On the request of the ASOIF, the IOC has conducted a complex study and reevaluated the International Federations to determine the revenue distribution from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games according to the following key criteria: television, internet, general public, spectators, press, universality. As a confirmation of the great achievements and constant evolution of the International Weightlifting Federation and its solid status in the Olympic Movement, our sport has been upgraded to the third group. IWF Participation at SportAccord

The world of sport met again this year at the SportAccord Convention. The conference took place in Saint Petersburg and gave immense opportunities for the delegates to build new business relationships, promote their sports and services as well as work on developing new projects. Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President, Mr. Ma Wenguang, IWF General Secretary and Mr. Attila Adamfi, IWF Competition Director represented the IWF at this successful event. The Convention gave the opportunity for the IWF to hold fruitful meetings with the IOC, SportAccord and Asoif. Furthermore, discussions were initiated by the Youth Olympic Games / Nanjing 2014, the Commonwealth Games Association / Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018, the Pan-American Games / Toronto 2015, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games OC. The General Assembly of SportAccord has elected Marius Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation as the new President of
