2015 IWF Youth World Championships Lima Overall

The 2015 IWF Youth World Championships ended with a huge success, with countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Algeria and Egypt making history in Peru. The future is here, with talented Youth athletes and Teams. Besides competing they found friends, and started their life as members of a big Family: the Weightlifting Family. Altogether, 99 Women from 28 countries participated against 90 Men from the same amount of countries. Jose Quinones, President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation and IWF Vice President highlighted the 52% Women participation in the competition as being an outstanding achievement for Women in sport in general and the impact it has on the future of weightlifting. Ivan Dibos, IOC Member from Peru participated in the Closing Ceremony of the 2015 IWF Youth World Championships after watching some great performances during the competitions. According to the Team Classification, the first 6 best performing Men and Women Team stood up on stage during the Closing Ceremony to receive a special award. Women Team Classification from 1st to 6th: CHN, RUS, USA, MEX, ECU, PER. Men Team Classification from 1st to 6th: MEX, PER, RUS, USA, POL, KOR. As a tradition now in Peru, the Federation organized a voting to award best lifters according to the Athletes’ Choice! This year, the trophies were awarded to: KAPUSTINA Tatyana (KAZ) and SON Igor (KAZ). The IWF Media Trophy of Best Lifter within Women was awarded to ROSA FIGUEIREDO Emily (BRA) for her outstanding result in winning the 1st medal ever at Youth World Championships for Brazil. Within Men, the IWF Media representatives decided to reward a fighter. Giving all he had to win the Gold, OBUKHOV Igor (UKR) won the Best Lifter Trophy. Last competition day – biggest lifts

Women +69 Women’s +69kg brought victory to KAPUSTINA Tatyana (KAZ). Even though the Ecuadorian lifter was stronger in Snatch – winning it by 1kg, the advantage of 5kg that KAPUSTINA got in the Snatch was enough to secure her victory. With a Total of 239kg, AYOVI CABEZAS Lisseth Betzaida (ECU) came out second from the battle while KIM Jihyeon (KOR) ending on 222kg won the Bronze Medal. SHYSHANOVA Anastasiia (UKR) ending 4th was 41kg behind the first place with a Total of 202kg. Men 94 The Algerian athlete TOUAIRI Aymen (ALG) had everything needed to win. With lifts at 142/176/318, he won the Gold and came out first before LO Hao-Jhih (TPE) and COHEN Michael Howard (USA). 4th place Egyptian lifter ABDELAZIZ Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed missed the podium by 1kg. Men +94 Men’s +94kg started to be a big fight between the Mexican MEDINA ANDUEZA Josue Said (MEX) and the Russian lifter GABUAEV Murat (RUS). Ending the Snatch at 150kg both, MEDINA took the lead but only because of a lighter bodyweight. With only one good attempt in the Clean and Jerk at 179kg enough for a Bronze, GABUEV finally stood up on second place in the Total with 329kg. Stronger than the Russian lifter in the Clean and Jerk, ELGARHY Osama Mohamed Monir Ibrahim (EGY) couldn’t get back the advantage that the leading athletes took in the Snatch, but could step on to the podium with his Total of 326kg as

First gold for Africa as Egyptian AHMED won the Women’s 69kg

Men 77kg LOPEZ LOPEZ Yeison (COL) had incredible confidence and strength in the men’s 77kg bodyweight category and winning all 3 Gold Medals, he became Youth World Champion. Silver Medallist in the Snatch, DAVITADZE Revaz (GEO) managed to control 130kg only at his last attempt. That good lift left the third position to FERNANDEZ LUGO Adolfo Alejandro (MEX). The Clean and Jerk competition was all about bodyweight. All three athletes involved lifted 162kg, and the final rank was determined by “who is lighter”. Lighter and Gold Medal winner LOPEZ LOPEZ Yeison (COL) was followed by DAVITADZE Revaz (GEO) and CUMMINGS Omar Malik (USA) came up to join them from a 7th in the Snatch. Same order for the results in the Total. Women 69kg First Gold for the African Continent as Egyptian AHMED Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed (EGY) stood on the first place of the podium! Youth World Champion as well as Gold Medallist at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, her Total of 236kg is the best result she ever achieved at an international competition. Commonwealth Junior and Youth Champion TILER Rebekah Jade (GBR) got two Bronze but with her Total of 213kg, she stood on second place of the podium. First result from an international event for WU Shujing (CHN) winning the Bronze Medal for China with 86/121/207. Men 85kg Ending the competition with 6 good lifts, OBUKHOV Igor (UKR) was a bit less confident in the Snatch than the Colombian athlete RIVAS MOSQUERA Jhonatan (COL) who lifted 140kg and grabbed a Gold with an advantage 7kg. The great performance of FISCHER David (AUT) with his 133kg Snatch brought its first medal to Austria. Explosive in the Clean and Jerk, the Ukrainian lifter OBUKHOV got the 183kg leaving him with a Total of 316kg and the Gold. 1 Gold for Thailand and 2 for China

Women 58kg The podium of the Women’s 58kg bodyweight category was an easy one. DAENGSRI Nawaporn from Thailand took sufficient advantage immediately in the Snatch to make an easy win. With 91/116/207, she had no challenger. Second was to be decided between SANCHEZ FERRER Alba (ESP) and AULBEK Aigerim (KAZ). The Spanish lifter was stronger in the Snatch but only by 1kg while the Kazakh lifter took that advantage back in the Clean and Jerk. Both of them ended with a Total of 192kg, but AULBEK won the Silver due to lighter bodyweight. Men 69kg China is holding its territory in the Men’s 69kg. In the footsteps of reigning Chinese World Champion LIAO Hui, the Youth World Championships title stays in China as LIU Weijian (CHN) showed impressive strength in this bodyweight category. With a 140kg Snatch – topping all competitors by at least 15kg, he reached 160 in the Clean and Jerk – winning the Total with a strong 300kg. Silver Medallist in the Snatch and Bronze in the Clean and Jerk, SUHAREVS Ritvars (LAT) was followed by third place TERRONES MIRANDA Oscar Adrian (PER) in the Total with 278. The Peruvian athlete had only 1 successful attempt in the Snatch and finished 4th, but came back to the podium for a Silver in the Clean and Jerk. Women 63kg Competition started to be close after the Snatch between the Chinese HUANG Ting and the Egyptian AHMED Esraa Elsayed Rashed Elsayed. Both had 3 good attempts in the Snatch and were separated by 1kg in favor of HUANG. The Egyptian lifter tried to follow the leading HUANG Ting, but 116kg in the Clean and Jerk was too much to bear. HUANG Ting (CHN) with 6 good lifts and a Total of 219kg win with ease and confidence. Third place was awarded to SHEVKOPLYAS Alona (UKR) for her 87kg Snatch, 106kg Clean and Jerk and 193kg

2nd Youth World Champion in the MOSQUERA LOSANO Family

Men 56kg We finally saw the 1st Youth World Record attempt of the 2015 IWF Youth World Championships by LIN Zhixiang (CHN). Missing his 156kg Clean and Jerk, he couldn’t overcome MENG Cheng’s existing one at 155kg. He however won the gold in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk with 1kg each time – and in the Total with 262kg. NGUYEN Tran Anh Tuan (VIE) ended with 260kg, and 3 Silver Medalls lifting 30kg more than 3rd place LOPEZ CARRANZA Brandy (PER). The Peruvian lifter won as only medal a Bronze in the Total! Being an impressive victory, as he ranked 10th after the Snatch and 4th in the Clean and Jerk. Second medal for Peru in the competition. DERU Jamjang (IND) had no successful Snatch, but ended third in the Clean and Jerk. Women 53kg The Women’s 53kg bodyweight category staged the competition between the Chinese LI Yan and the Latvian KOHA Rebeka. Very close to each other, KOHA won the Snatch by 1kg, while LI managed to Clean and Jerk 2kg more, giving her the lead and the victory. Ecuador won its first medal being Bronze – TAPUY GREFA Monica Joahana stood on the third place three times, for the Snatch, the Clean and Jerk and for the Total as well. Men 62kg Seems like talent is undeniable in the MOSQUERA LOSANO family. Luis Javier, Youth World Champion in 2012 now gave his place to his younger brother Jose David. With an impressive Total of 273kg, which is 10kg less than the 2012 result of Luis Javier; Jose David dominated the Men’s 62kg. Interesting to see that the two brothers are competing in the same bodyweight category as well… Maybe we’ll experience some interesting competitions with both of them fighting for the same medal. Huge success for Brazil on the first day

Women 44kg First Gold medal at the 2015 IWF Youth World Championships in Lima, Peru went to China. The victory of GAO Yimei (CHN) was however not an easy one. She challenged by the Vietnamese lifter KHONG My Phuong leading the Snatch with an advantage of 3 kg. Injuring her leg, she limped on stage for the Clean and Jerk and had a good lift for her third attempt at 76kg. FIRST MEDAL EVER at Youth World Championships in weightlifting for Brazil! With a Bronze in the Snatch and Bronze in the Total, ROSA FIGUEIREDO Emily made history today. Emily dropped down from the 48kg bodyweight category to the 44kg in March and had a personal best at 62/78. Coming down to a lower bodyweight, she never thought she could take a medal while at the same time setting a new personal best! Men 50kg Men Outstanding lifts from SON Igor (KAZ) ending with six good lifts and 3 Golds! He led the competition from the Clean and Jerk to start. Winning the Snatch by bodyweight – ending with 92kg just like the Russian lifter GARAEV Zulfat, he got the advantage needed to win the Clean and Jerk and the Total. Second place went to LE NGUYEN Quoc Bao (VIE) with 202kg, the Vietnamese lifter missed his last Clean and Jerk. Third place of the Podium was Russian GARAEV Zulfat (RUS), less confident in the Clean and Jerk finished only 1kg behind Silver Medallist. The Turkish lifter GUNGOR Isa was way beyond catching the leading three with 17kg less in the Total. Women 48kg DE SOUZA FACCIOLLA FERREIRA Aline (BRA) took the lead after the Snatch with 73kg, leaving the second place to the other Brazilian lifter OLIVEIRA MADEIRA Luana (BRA) lifting in the same bodyweight category. The Chinese lifter YANG Lijin (CHN) ranked third after the Snatch, but managed to lessen the advantage taken by the other lifters to finish first in the Clean and Jerk. JIMENEZ PALECHOR Julieth Alexandra (COL) came up from being number to second, while the two Brazilian lifters could only grab the 5th and 6th place respectively. 90kg in the Clean and Jerk were enough for YANG to win the Gold in the Total (160kg), leaving second place to DE SOUZA FACCIOLLA FERREIRA Aline (BRA) and third to OLIVEIRA MADEIRA Luana (BRA).
