Olympic Solidarity Rio scholarship programme

The International Olympic Committee through Olympic Solidarity, constantly seeks to encourage the practice of sport and athletes throughout the world by offering the National Olympic Committee a large number of programmes that cover the different development stages in an athlete’s career, from its beginning in the junior ranks up to the highest sphere of elite sport. This programme supported 1547 athletes from 185 NOCs in 22 sports. From weightlifting 14 women and 18 men athletes were awarded with the scholarship from all 5 continents. From the total 32 allocated scholarships 39,5% participated in the Games in Rio. The Mauritius Amateur Weightlifters' & Powerlifters' Association Elections were held on Friday 13th January 2016 for the period of 2017 - 2020. President: Mr. Bhollah Poorun Vice President: Mr. Boolkah Iswar General Secretary: Mr. Monien Magarajen Ass. General Secretary: Ms. Gopaloodoo Sheila Treasurer: Mr. Doolaul Richard Ass. Treasurer: Mr. Ramnath Mohit The members have unanimously re-elected Mr. Bhollah Poorun to the post of President and placed their confidence in Mr. Bhollah for the next 4 years. The good results achieved by Weightlifting in Mauritius in the past 3 years have been acclaimed by most members. In 2015 and 2016 Weightlifting has been the sport which achieved the best results in Mauritius. Congratulations to all the elected
