Intervention of Dr. Ajan at the EU Sport Forum

During the EU Sport Forum held in Budapest, Hungary Dr. Tamás Aján, IOC Honorary Member and President of the IWF took part in the general debate with the EU Sport Ministers and made a comment of a great interest in regard of corruption in sport. He told the assembly that sport has to overcome the problem and called for rapid action against all forms of corruption. EU Sport Forum 2011

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates between the 27 member states every six months. Hungary took over the Presidency of the EU on January 1, 2011. On February 22-23 in Budapest, Hungary the European Commission organized the EU Sport Forum as key platform for dialogue held for the third time.  Besides leading representatives from International and European Sport Organizations, Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations, representatives from the Olympic and sport movement Dr. Tamás Aján, IOC Honorary Member and President of the IWF was also in attendance. The EU Sports Commissioner Ms. Androulla Vassiliou from Cyprus promised that greater attention will be given to sporting issues within the European Union. She added that the European Union's budget will include a separate chapter on financial support for sport. WADA’s IF Relations Director was received by Dr.Tamas Ajan

Frédéric Donzé, the newly appointed Director of WADA's European Regional Office and International Federations Relations came to Budapest, Hungary for a meeting with IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján and the IWF Secretariat staff. They discussed several topics in regard to the IWF Anti-Doping activities, the cooperation of the two organisations and the efficient implementation and enforcement of WADA rules in weightlifting. IWF President met COPAG representatives in Guadalajara

The President of the International Federation of Weightlifting, Dr. Tamas Ajan, concluded a visit to Guadalajara, where he met Mr. Ivar Sisniega, Sports and Operation Director of the Pan American Games Organizing Committee (COPAG), Mr. Valentin Yanes, Technical Sports Director of COPAG and Dr. Rosalio Alvarado President of the Mexican Weightlifting Federation. They had meaningful discussions about the preparations of the XVI Pan American Games to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico on 23-27 October 2011. During the meeting, adjustments were made in regard of the facility and the competition schedule.
