Junior and -23 European Championships, Bucharest

The Junior and Under 23 years European Championships are jointly running in Bucharest, Romania. 2011 Oceania Weightlifting Federation Annual Congress

Held last week on Saturday, 03 September 2011 at the spectacular South Pacific Commission in Nouméa, the Oceania Weightlifting Federation (OWF) held its Annual Congress. The OWF President, His Excellency, Marcus Stephen (NRU) and General Secretary, Paul Coffa (AUS), welcomed 21 National Federations to the largest congress in the Federation's 31-year history held in New Caledonia. The Congress discussed important matters relating to the sport including the Oceania Institute, the Pacific Games as well as the Olympic Solidarity programme. Life membership was given to Mr. Lyn Jones for his outstanding service to the Oceania region. Lyn was the OWF General Secretary from December 1980 to 1983 and President from 1983 to 1992. He was also Executive Board member of the IWF for eight years whilst he was President of Oceania. Life membership was given also to HE Marcus Stephen for his contribution to the region and especially the Pacific Islands. He has been an inspiration to many young aspiring athletes being one of the greatest athletes in the Pacific. Wallis & Futuna will host the 2013 Mini Pacific Games and weightlifting is one of the 8 sports on the programme. For the first time ever, the Oceania Championships will be incorporated within the 2013 Mini Games. This decision was passed unanimously by the Pacific Games Council

The International Sport Forum: Russia – Country of Sports

The International Sport Forum „Russia - Country of Sports" was held in Saransk, Mordovia, Russia on 8-11 September with the participation of more than 3000 participants, representatives of sport authorities, federations from all regions of the country. Several international sport federations were also present. The IWF delegated Ms. Eva Balogh, Office Manager to the conference. During the Sport Forum Master Classes were held in 11 basic sports, including weightlifting with the participation of scientists introducing the results of their research and the Head Coaches demonstrating exercises. At the Exhibition „Modern sports, innovation and perspectives" the visitors could get acquainted with the achievements of Russian weightlifting sport. The first Press Conference on the President's Cup to be held in Belgorod from 16-19 December, 2011 took place in the framework of the Sport Forum. 11th ENSSEE Forum – 8th ICCE Global Coach Conference

The ASOIF has recently agreed to the establishment of a Joint Project Group with the International Council for Coach Education (ICCE), with ITU President, Marisol Casado as joint Chair, with a view to the development of an International Sport Coaching Framework. This Group will work over the next 18 months to develop a set of reference points to support the development of coach education and development programs across the globe. In order to further strengthen the engagement of International Federations in this process, from the 25th to the 27th of August 2011, the first joint conference of the European Network of Sport Science, Education and Employment (ENSSEE) and the International Council for Coach Education (ICCE) entitled "Innovation and Practice" was held in Paris, France. At the same time, the ASOIF and the ICCE have agreed to jointly host an IF meeting/seminar. New World Records on the first day of the Youth and Junior AWC

The 2011 Youth and Junior Asian Weightlifting Championships started today in Pattaya, Thailand at the Pattaya Indoor Atheletic Stadium on Soi Chaiyapruk 2. Approximately 476 lifters representing 38 countries throughout Asia participate in the competition. The IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján attended the meetings of the Asian Weightlifting Federation's Commissions held before the competitions to start and was pleased to honor the Opening Ceremony of the Championshipsby his presence. On the first competition day in Pattaya, in the 50 kg bodyweight category the 16 year old Thai lifter Sinphet Kruaithong established new Youth World Records in the Snatch, Clean & Jerk and in the Total. In the 56 kg bodyweight category, Thach Kim Tuan (VIE) set new Youth World Records in the Snatch with 127 kg and in the Total with 277 kg.The AWC promises stunning performances within the Junior and Youth lifters.
