Swedish weightlifter Arvid Andersson passed away

The Swedish Weightlifting Federation has been informed with deep sorrow about the death of Mr. Arvid Andersson. He was one of the most celebrated weightlifters of Sweden and World Champion in 1946. The same year he was awarded the finest Medal of Honor a Swedish sportsman /-woman can get, the Svenska Dagbladets Bragdmedalj.

Mr. Andersson was born 1919 in Västerrottna, moved to Kristinehamn where his weightlifting career took off. He participated in the Olympic Games two times, became European Champion three times and Nordic Champion six times. He was a member of the board of Swedish Weightlifting Federation from 1955-1957 and National coach for many years in the 1950s.

The International Weightlifting Federation and the Swedish Weightlifting Federation expresses its deepest condolences to Mr. Arvid Andersson’s relatives.
