Clean victories on the second competition day

In the Women’s 53kg, the Chinese lifter WU Lingqian took the lead with 12kg more than the Silver Medallist TANASAN Sopita (THA) ending with a Total of 195kg. ANGGRAINI Syarah (INA) was awarded three Bronze. After third place at the Asian Junior Championships in 2011, a second place in 2013, the 18 years old WU finally got the so coveted Gold here in Kazan. Silver Medallist at the 2013 IWF World Championships in Wroclaw, TANASAN had only one successful Snatch and couldn’t defeat the Chinese lifter. The final fight for the Gold Medal in the Men’s 62kg bodyweight category was between MO Yongxiang (CHN) and MOSQUERA LOZANO Luis Javier (COL). Both got 3 good attempts in the Snatch and the Colombian lifter had only 1kg advantage over MO. Bronze Medal went to OUERTANI Marouan (TUN) with 121kg, 16kg behind the leader. MO’s starting weight in the Clean & Jerk was 160kg which seemed to be a tough one while he missed his attempts twice controlling the weight only at his third attempt. Two World Records for THACH Kim Tuan

Altogether 269 athletes from 49 countries - 115 Women and 149 Men participate in the 2014 Junior World Championships Kazan, RUS held at the Palace of Sport - venue of the competition. Competition kicked off today with the Women’s 48kg bodyweight category. In the Snatch, the Chinese lifter WEI Chengji had no opponent. Lifting 83kg, she ended first while the Indonesian lifter AUGUSTIANI Sri Wahyuni 81kg. Third place went to KOHA Rebeka (LAT) winning by bodyweight on AHMET Heba Saleh Mahmoud (EGY). WEI couldn’t control 104kg for her second and third attempts in the Clean & Jerk, therefor she ended on her starting weight of 100kg. She was awarded the Silver Medal in the Clean & Jerk and in the Total. Asian Championships Silver AUGUSTIANI won the Gold in the Total with 186kg while 3rd place went to the Egyptian lifter also third at the 2013 IWF Youth World Championships. Men’s 56kg The Vietnamese lifter, 20 year old THACH Kim Tuan increased his first attempt with an impressive 13kg in the Snatch setting a new Junior World Record with 133kg. Asian Junior and Youth Champion, Youth Olympic Gold Medallist at the 2010 Singapore YOG, he secured his Gold in the Total with a 146kg Clean & Jerk. He increased his second attempt to 160kg and broke the Total World Record with 293kg. The previous record holder in the Snatch as well as in the Total was LONG Quingquan (CHN) setting both of them at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Silver Medal went to KRUAITHONG Sinphet (THA) with 255kg. SCARANTINO Mirco (ITA) won the Silver Medal on bodyweight in the Snatch, but this same bodyweight gave him the third place in the Total. IWF Executive Board Meeting and Congress in Kazan

The IWF Executive Board held its two days meeting in Kazan, RUS prior to the 2014 Junior World Championships. The EB Members received reports from the Committee Meetings containing proposals which the Executive Board approved. Among those: Deleting the size rule on knee bandages Continental Regional and Member Federations must be reminded to strictly respect the IWF age groups, age limits, in particular the minimum age of 13 years for participation in any international competitions Extra focus will be directed to the TUEs The production of IWF Coaching Manuals reached a new stage and the CRC will introduce the categorization of International Coaches Recommendations were made by the World Championships Working Group: To ensure that only athletes deserving to lift on the World Championships platform (only Senior WC!) can participate, the Executive Board approved the introduction of Minimum Standards / Minimum Entry Totals. The Minimum Entry Total in each category is 65% of the Reference Number for women; and 75% of the Reference Number for the men. Reference Number = Average result of the winner in each category of the last 3 World Championships. Rule to be effective for 2014-2015 (Senior) World Championships. Addition to the Regulation to Rule 5.2 World Championships: Minimum of 30% of the total participation costs must be paid in advance to the Organising Committee together with the Final Entry. The IWF Executive Board feels very strongly that the whole issue of Masters Weightlifting and its recognition by the IWF must come under a review. The Development Program as suggested by the Development and Education Commission was approved by the IWF Executive Board. Future World Championships were allocated: 2015 IWF Youth World Championships to Lima, PER 2016 IWF Youth World Championships to Penang, MAS 2016 IWF Junior World Championships to Tunis, TUN By proposal of the IWF Membership Commission, the following status issues were approved: Botswana's (BOT) temporary suspension has been lifted Wallis and Futuna (WAF) became Associate Member Equatorial Guinea (GEQ) became Provisional Member The EB welcomed the Marketing Commission’s proposals aimed at a new approach of strategy, marketing and communication. Activities will be externalized to professional Marketing Agency and Media Services will be enhanced. As a major step, a new Corporate Identity will be submitted to the Almaty Congress. Dr. Patrick Schamasch’s report revealed that the new ADC has stepped up and brought to a higher lever the quality of the IWF Anti-Doping controls and programs. By putting more weight on targeted tests and intelligence, the TDP will be even more effective. The EB reconfirmed its firm position that federations that have arrears with doping fines cannot participate in the IWF Events. Financial Reports on the 2013 and 2014 Budgets were unanimously approved. KPMG also presented its Audit Report for the year 2013. Reports from the EB meeting were presented to the Congress that approved unanimously all decisions. Reports on future events were presented for the 2014, 2015 and 2016

IWF Committee Meetings in Kazan

The IWF Committees held their meeting prior to the Junior World Championships in Kazan, RUS. Their first meeting started with a joint meeting for matters of common interest. As the IWF Medical Committee held its extraordinary meeting in Lausanne, SUI on 27 March 2014, the IWF Technical and Coaching and Research Committees sat together in Kazan. Technical Committee The Technical Committee discussed questions on technical and educational matters, notably a standardization of the Weightlifting equipment and refresher courses for Technical Officials. Promotion of more women officials was also discussed along with the criteria for Technical Officials' appointment to IWF Events. The Technical Committee stressed the importance of National, Regional and Continental Federations to strictly abide by the IWF Technical and Competition Rules & Regulation especially in view of the age limit rule for competition. Coaching and Research Committee The new CRC Committee endorsed the 3 IWF Coaching categories to match the IWF TC referee categories and produce appropriate coaching material to match the criteria. Technical Visit for 2014 IWF WWC – Almaty

IWF Director General Attila Ádámfi and Director Anikó Németh-Móra have conducted a busy and comprehensive technical visit at the venue of the 1st Olympic Qualification World Championships on the Road to Rio 2016. The beautiful city of Almaty has been assigned by the host Weightlifting Federation of Kazakhstan to stage the significant event this coming November. The team of the Organising Committee appointed by WFRK President Zhanat Tusupbekov and under the leadership of Omar Mustafin, CEO had already made advanced preparations and at the visit all technical and organisational details could be finalized. Almaty offers a very convenient and compact World Championships, with the competition venue, training and the hotels for the accommodation being practically adjoining buildings, in walking distance. Facilities and services will be provided at very high level for the participants who are expected to turn out in great numbers in Almaty.
