EWF Scientific Seminar supported by the IWF Development Program
On December 16th at the Italian Olympic Training Centre, EWF opened the European Scientific Seminar supported by the IWD Development Program / CF Contribution. 70 participants representing from 35 countries attended the seminar. The Seminar was officially opened by the President of the Italian Olympic Committee Dr. Giovanni Malagò who welcomed all participants saying to be honoured to host a scientific seminar of such high scientific value. EWF President Urso, in his opening remarks highlighted that the comparison with the science of training, because its represent a complexity process, requires the comparison and verification of how coaching and training can be interpreted in the light of new scientific discovery. Presentations included details from the Chinese, the German and Russian schools of Weightlifting. Topics Organization, selection of talent, training for young an top level athlete. Russia - Mr Beliaev Vasilii The International Weightlifting Federation was represented by Dr. Magdolna Trombitás, Legal Counsel and Timea Horvath, Assistant both giving lectures about their related fields: Anti-Doping and Development. 5th Russian Federation President’s Cup
The IWF Grand Prix – 5th Russian Federation President’s Cup with has come to an end in Grozny, the capital of Chechen Republic, Russia. The individual Olympic qualification event under the patronage of the Russian Federation President took place with the participation of 14 countries after Belgorod, Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Noyabrsk. The IWF was represented by Eva Balogh, Office Manager and Kornel Jancso, Editor-in-Chief of the World Weightlifting Magazine. Ramzan Kadyrov, President of the Chechen Republic greeted the participants and watched the competition. Mr. Putin’s welcome message was read at the opening ceremony. After a spectacular opening ceremony 3000 spectators followed the event with great attention on both days. One of the greatest moments was the victory of Ilya Ilyin, KAZ, two-times Olympic champion who made it to set a world record for clean and jerk in 105 kg and on 437 kg, total. Andrey Aramnau, BLR was the record holder so far with 436 kg. In the team competition Russia took the first place, Kazakhstan the 2nd and USA the 3rd
South American Championships concluded
The South American Confederation having 10 Member Federations organizes the South American Championships annually, and after the withdrawal of Venezuela, Lima, Peru took over the organization in 2015, for Youth, Junior and Senior athletes as well. The event was held in the recently completed High Performance Center, built for the 2019 Pan American Games. The Venue, including the Hotel, training and competition site in the same complex, provided high standard facilities for a perfect competition. "I am glad we could welcome the South American countries in Lima, Peru. This competition served also as the first weightlifting Test Event ahead of the 2019 Pan American Games. The event was organized in the complex that might also be the venue for the 2018 IWF World Championships - a major event before the Pan American Games" said Jose Quinones, President of South American Confederation, also NOC President and IWF Vice President. IWF ADC Meeting
The annual meeting of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission took place on the 9th December 2015 in Lausanne Switzerland. The Chairman of the ADC, Dr. Patrick Schamasch and its Members, Dr. Zakia Bartagi and Dr. Michael Petrou assessed all the valuable experience gained this year and thus drew the lines of the IWF’s Anti-Doping Program for 2016 and decided on several anti-doping related issues. The IWF Anti-Doping Department, Dr. Trombitás, Dr. Nyirfa and Ms. Exhenry also participated at the meeting. The IWF will continue its robust fight against doping using its intelligence network and the best analytical methods and will focus more on quality than quantity. In the upcoming Olympic year the IWF will put special attention on the Anti-Doping related Education and will try its utmost in order to protect the clean athletes. 2015 brought several changes into the IWF Anti-Doping Program due to the new WADA Code and the fully compliant IWF Anti-Doping Policy and thanks to the application of the entourage registration and the new public disclosure guidelines the Program become even more effective. The IWF Anti-Doping Commission would like to specifically call everyone’s attention again to a new prohibited substance called MILDRONATE (Meldonium) which was in the WADA Monitoring Program in 2015 and will be prohibited from the 1st January 2016. CAS timeline BUL case
As announced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a media release dated 8 December 2015, the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation has filed an appeal at CAS against a decision issued by the International Weightlifting Federation on 9 November 2015 in which it was fined USD 500,000 and banned from entering the next ensuing Youth Olympic/Olympic Games after 11 of its athletes were found to have committed anti-doping rule violations. The Parties have agreed on a procedural calendar in order to have this arbitration adjudicated in an expedited manner. The CAS is expected to issue its decision by end of January 2016. Until then, the qualifications for Rio 2016 Olympic Games will not become
