USA recaptures lead in women; Korea sweeps the 85kg for men

In the women's 69kg USA lifter Martha Ann Rogers took the gold with an unexpectedly large 20kg margin from 2014 defending University world champion Canadin Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau (335 to 315kg), while Yun-Szu Yang of TPE won bronze. In the 85kg for men, Korean Jang Yeonhak proved to be unchallengeable and cemented his world champion position with an impressive hat trick and 344kg to his credit. Host Mexico dominant at WUC

After 11 bronze and silver medals collected, Mexico finally hit gold in the women's 63kg where Anacarmen Torres Wong won the clean and jerk and the total gold medals in a close and exciting battle against her Japanese and Canadian opponents. The Merida 2016 World University Championships take off with 22 countries

The USA and China among the women, Japan and China in men took the first honours at the 5th FISU World University Championships in the beautiful city of Merida in Mexico. Governor of the State of Yucatan, Rolando Zapata Bello opened the event which continued with Chinese Taipei victory on the second day of competition. 2013 world champion and Rio olympic bronze medallist Kuo Hsing-Chun swept the 58kg with a total just one kilo under her Olympic score and the Mexican hosts celebrated their first silver medal thanks to Janeth Gomez. The Disciplinary Commission of the International Olympic Committee has recently issued decisions in the reanalysis cases of the following athletes: Beijing 2008 HASANOV, Sardar (AZE) 62 kg KOROBKA, Olha (UKR) +75 kg RYBAKOU, Andrei (BLR) 85 kg NOVIKAVA, Nastassia (BLR) 53 kg London 2012 SAZANAVETS, Dzina (BLR) 69 kg PODOBEDOVA, Svetlana (KAZ) 75 kg MANEZA, Maiya (KAZ) 63 kg CHINSHANLO, Zulfiya (KAZ) 53 kg SHKERMANKOVA, Marina (BLR) 69 kg ZHARNASEK, Yauheni (BLR) +105 kg AUKHADOV, Apti (RUS) 85 kg These athletes were found to have committed Anti-Doping Rule Violations and their results from the 2008/2012 Olympic Games were disqualified by the IOC DC. The IWF will take over the Results Managements of the above cases after the relevant appeal deadlines (21 days) expire and the status of the cases will then be changed to 'closed IOC/ongoing IWF' on the IWF Reanalysis tab.
