The Weightlifting Family and IWF mourn Jenő Boskovics

It is with the deepest sorrow that the IWF has to inform the Weightlifting Family that our dear colleague and friend JENŐ BOSKOVICS, aged 81, deceased in Budapest on 23 April 2010. Jenő Boskovics was the Press Chief and Spokesman of the IWF for decades, Assistant General Secretary of the AIPS, Member of the AIPS Weightlifting Commission and, until his death, Editor-in-Chief of World Weightlifting since its creation in 1980. His statistical-journalistic and history-research activity in weightlifting was known and appreciated worldwide. His departure is a great loss to the Weightlifting Family and his memory will be remembered forever. The IWF will forward condolences addressed to [email protected] to the Boskovics

2010 Norwegian Championships: “Probably the best ever”!

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Weightlifting Club of Trondheim, the Norwegian Federation staged a large Championships. Trondheim is Norway's 3rd largest city and the public interest in the Anniversary event was high. Alongside the local nobilities, the President of the Norwegian Federation Mr. Per Mattingsdal, IWF Auditor and former President of NWF Mr. Tryggve Duun, many "oldtimer" competitors and officials were present. Altogether 117 capable weightlifters in three age groups competed in the commemorative Norwegian Championships and Cup. The Championships were run by a capable Organising Committee, and many enthusiastic volunteers under the baton of Mr. Duun, in cooperation with the IWF technical staff that assisted with the first application of the IWF National Competition Technology System freshly purchased by the NWF. "The Championships were a real success. Probably the best ever! - The competition system worked very vell, and was an important reason for the success. - We are very satisfied, and the help of Robert (Nagy) and Csaba (Airizer) was extremely good. They made it possible to set up the IWF System and run the competition without any failure." - commented Mr. Tryggve Duun

IOC launches new Youth Olympic Games visual identity “YOG-DNA”

In just 200 days, at 20.10 SGT on 14 August 2010, Singapore will open its doors to 3,600 of the world's best young athletes for the first Youth Olympic Games (YOG). To celebrate the countdown, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) launched the visual identity of the Youth Olympic Games - "YOG-DNA". The "YOG-DNA" label can be viewed on the YOG website, "the Cube" www.olympic.org/yog, and will be integrated into all YOG digital and social media concepts in both the build-up to Singapore 2010 and future YOG editions.
