First Junior World Record broken in Lima

Women’s 53kg Only third place in the Snatch, CHYCHKAN Alena (BLR) - this year’s European Champion in a higher bodyweight category - won the competition by 1kg. Youth World Champion in 2011, LIU Quan (CHN) ended the competition with three Silver Medals and a Total of 198kg. TANASAN Sopita (THA) won the Gold Medal in the Snatch, but earned the third place in the Total after only one last good Clean & Jerk attempt. Men’s 62kg Showing impressive strength, the Azerbaijani lifter HRISTOV Valentin Snezhev was unbeatable. In the Snatch, just as in the Clean & Jerk, he defeated all his opponents. He failed to defeat the Junior World Record of 177kg set by YANG Fan (CHN) in his second attempt of the Clean & Jerk, but he managed to control the weight in the third. Now Junior World Record holder in the Clean & Jerk with 178kg, HRISTOV Valentin Snezhev (AZE) was crowned with 3 times Gold Medals. First competition day in Lima

Women’s 48kg was a balanced competition with clearly defined positions. All 3 Gold Medals went to the Chinese lifter GUAN Chunyin participating in her first international competition. She lifted a Total of 182kg which is 10kg more than the Silver Medallist PIRON Beatriz Elizabeth (DOM). The Silver Medallist of the 2012 Asian Junior Championships, SAIKHOM Mirabai Chanu (IND) won the Bronze for a Total of 165kg. Men’s 56kg Second victory of the day for China. In the Men’s 56kg bodyweight category, the 18 year old WEI Xiameng won with a Total of 244kg, only 1kg more than the Silver Medallist SERNA MENDOZA Jhon Jairo from Colombia. The battle for the Bronze Medal was very exciting, as wasn’t certain until the last couple of lifts. SAHIN Muammer (TUR) , Gold Medallist in the Snatch finished only 8th with 126kg in the Clean & Jerk. He managed to grab third place in the Total, however the Clean & Jerk Bronze went to BARNES Darren Lamar (USA) for his only good lift of

2013 IWF Junior World Championships kicked off in Lima, Peru

The 2013 IWF Junior World Championships just kicked off in Lima, Peru here at the Maria Angola Convention Center. At the Opening Ceremony held yesterday at the Magic Water Circuit Emilio Fernandez; Ms. Suzana Cordova, Director of Culture and Sport of the City Hall and Mr. Francisco Boza Dibos, President of the Peruvian Sports Institute gave speeches about the importance to organize such important international competitions in Lima. After the very successful Sport for All Conference, which ran from 24 to 27 April, where 500 leading experts from almost 90 countries shared their best practices on a wide range of activities, the very successful 2007 University World Championships, the 2011 IWF Youth World Championships, now Lima hosts the 2013 IWF Junior World Championships. Mr. Jose Quinones, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee and President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation said: “It is an honor and privilege to receive again the weightlifting family in Lima. We wish to deliver an event to be remembered, and a competition that have all facilities for the athletes to perform at their best." Successful event hosted by Sarajevo

On 27 April 2013, the Weightlifting Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized the 7th International Memorial Tournament „Andrija Malec” in Sarajevo. With the participation of 4 countries (ALB, BIH, SRB, TUR) with 5 teams, this event gives great opportunities for weightlifting promotion and development since each team should include 1 woman, 1 youth man and 1 junior man athlete. OWF ZKC Email International Club Tournament

Paul Coffa, General Secretary of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation (OWF) announces: The Oceania Weightlifting Federation has decided to change the date of the ZKC Email International Club Tournament to July 26-28, 2013. This tournament has now become a regular feature on the international weightlifting calendar attracting over 120 clubs from the five continents every year. And this year again we would like to surpass the records to the previous years. This email tournament although held within the weightlifting clubs of each country, it does give the opportunity to lifters and clubs, to compete against each other at an international level without any expenses whatsoever. Download the Competition Regulation of the tournament and encourage as many clubs as possible through your Federation/Association by forwarding them the attachment.
