Days of glory for Chilean weightlifting

Following the Gold medals of María Fernanda Valdez and Arley Mendez at the World Championships at Anaheim, weightlifting became the most mentioned word in Chile. This unusual result was celebrated all over media, including newspaper front pages and highlighted news in TV. Both athletes received the most important sport awards in the country: The Best of the Best between all sports. The award was presented by two institutions: The Chilean Olympic Committee and the Circle of Sport Journalists. The Chilean Olympic Committee granted this important award to María Fernanda Valdez and the journalists decided to grant the second award to Arley Méndez. Source: Italo

Education Seminar in Mexico

Continuing the educational seminars in South America, the Mexican Weightlifting Federation organized a course about weightlifting training technique, psychology within the training and competition, changes in the rules and anti-doping. The course aimed to give additional knowledge to coaches and technical officials of the country. The fight against doping has been strongly emphasized, especially revealing the fatal consequences of the use of banned substances and methods in the health of an athlete. The lectures were presented by 3 Mexican experts and more than 100 people attended the 2 days course which was supported by IWF within the Continental

Education Seminars in South America

In the past months, end of 2017, the South American countries organized several education seminars. It started with the “Technical Improvement in Weightlifting” Seminar in Uruguay. 56 participants attended the course lectured by Professor Sergio Parra. During the theoretical classes it was emphasized how to develop the planning of the trainings (year, month, week) while the practical classes were about to find the correct execution and technique as well as including new techniques. After the seminar in Uruguay, Paraguay Weightlifting Federation had a “Technical Officials” Seminar, led by Diego Germán Martínez. The coaches and athletes who participated all agreed that seminar had a very positive impact and they have learnt a lot. Both courses were supported by IWF within the Continental Contribution
