President of Ghana Weightlifting Federation elected NF President of the year 2013

Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation was voted by the sports writers association of Ghana (SWAG) as the best National Federation President (out of the 36 National Federation Presidents in Ghana) for the year 2013. He received this high recognition for the tremendous work done to promote weightlifting in Ghana in the last eight (8) months. This honour will be a major booster for Ghana Weightlifting Federation in 2014. The Federation hopes to commission a modern weightlifting hall and gym in April, and also introduce weightlifting to most of the second cycle schools in Accra and the security services in Ghana. European Coaches Forum held in Rome, Italy

The EWF held a European Coaches Forum at the Centro di Preparazione Olimpica Rome, Italy. 36 Coaches from 29 Federations attended the very successful course. The topic was the introduction of a “European Coaching Passport”. During the 2 days Forum, important discussions were initiated and Member Federations shared coaching procedures and exchanged knowledge. The main presenter at the Forum was Colin Buckley, EWF Executive Board Member in charge of the European Coaching Framework. Sochi 2014 Torch Relay

On Monday, the Sochi Olympic torch arrives in the city of Volgograd. Sochi is approximately 600 miles south of Volgograd. Next the torch relay heads 22 miles north to Shakhty. Sochi 2014 says nine Olympic champions and one Paralympic champion were born in Shakhty. Legendary Russian weightlifting coach David Riegert will run with the torch in Shakhty. On Friday, the flame arrives in the city of Stavropol. Weightlifting champion Andrey Chemerkin and Olympic swimmer Eugene Kuznetsov are among the torchbearers who will carry the flame in Stavropol.
