RFWF delegation meets IWF President

The IWF regularly consults the leadership of the leading Weightlifting Federations. This time, the Delegation of the Russian Weightlifting Federation paid a visit to the IWF Secretariat to discuss topical items of the cooperation. IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan met the delegation which consisted of Sergey Syrtsov, RFWF President and Maxim Agapitov, RFWF Vice-President. In the focus of discussions was the Junior World Championships to be held in Kazan, RUS from 20-28 June2014 as well as the 2014 Edition of the traditional President’s Cup. The Russian Federation which is one of the leading powers of the sport has made an offer to provide qualified coaches for engagement in countries that wish to hire. First meeting of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission

The 1st official meeting of the Independent IWF Anti-Doping Commission was held on 29 January 2014 in Budapest in presence of Dr. Patrick Schamasch, Dr. Michael Petrou, Dr. Monika Ungar and Dr. Magdolna Trombitas. Mandated by the IWF Executive Board and Congress, the Anti-Doping Commission prepared the Action Plan to follow in the fight against doping for the year 2014. The following topics were discussed: • finalization of the International Registered Testing Pool (IRTP) • elaboration of the Test Distribution Plan (TDP)for in- and out-of-competition – assignment of the Doping Control Officers (DCOs) and Laboratories • establishment of the procedures for the Steroid Passport • establishment of Education Programs in line with the upcoming Youth Olympic Games 2014 Nanjing focusing on the 5 Continental Qualification

IWF launches Technical Officials’ nomination process for 2014 world events

Member Federations are now requested and able to submit the nomination of Technical Officials to the following world events of the IWF in 2014: - IWF 2014 Junior World Championships, Kazan RUS - Youth Olympic Games, Nanjing CHN - IWF 2014 Olympic Qualification World Championships, Almaty KAZ - FISU World University Weightlifting Championships, Chiangmai THA Call for 2014 TO Nominations can be downloaded here. The Nomination Form must be used to forward the proposals. Deadline: 20 February

Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes became Knight of the Order of Legion of Honor

Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes became Knight of the Order of Legion of Honor for his services to French Sport and French Weightlifting in particular. The long serving President of the French Federation, former IWF Executive Board Member received this high distinction of the President of the French Republic from the hands of Denis Masseglia, President of the French Olympic Committee. Jean-Paul Bulgaridhes was Member of the Executive Board of the French Weightlifting Federation since 1972, Secretary General from 1976 until 1984 and President between 2001 and 2013. He organized four Weightlifting Championships: 1975 – 1st IWF Junior World Championships in Marseilles, 2005 – FISU World Championships in Villeneuve-Loubet, and in 2005 – Lilles and 2011 Paris the IWF World Championships.
