British Junior and U23 athletes in Colorado Springs

5 young and talented athletes will visit to the main USA Olympic Centre at Colorado Springs this March. They will attend a 10-day training camp with the best American Junior lifters at the main USA weightlifting hub under the guidance of Tamas Feher, British Head Coach. The athletes attending are: Zoe Smith (58 kg, Junior World silver, Olympic 12th), Mercy Brown (75 kg, Youth European bronze), Sonny Webster (94 kg, Junior World 4th), Shanun Clegg (77 kg) and Adam Mattiussi (77 kg). Asian Youth Championships (YOG Continental Qualification Event) started

The 1st AWF Executive Board meeting in 2014 was held on 3rd March in Bang Saen, Thailand in connection with the Asian Youth Championships followed by the AWF Congress. Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President honoured both meetings and Attila Adamfi, IWF Director General informed the delegates about Nanjing Youth Olympic Games including the actual status of the qualification and presented the Qualification System for Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The event being the YOG Continental Qualification Event as well is the first of the five Continental Championships to provide qualification possibility where 178 athletes from 26 countries with compete for the remaining places for Nanjing.Already on the first competition day 3 new Youth World Records have been broken in all 3 bodyweight categories contested. Song Gum RI, PRK in 44kg broke the Clean & Jerk with 93kg, in 50kg Liangrun ZHENG, CHN broke the Snatch record with 102kg and in 56kg Cheng MENG, CHN broke the Snatch with 128kg. World Championships Working Group

A Working Group established by the IWF Executive Board for the review of the World Championships held its meeting in Budapest on February 28-March 1. Under the Chairmanship of the IWF President, Chairman and representatives of the Technical Committee, Coaching and Research Committee and the Executive Board as well as the IWF Secretariat discussed a very wide scope of issues related to the organization of World Championships. Congress of the Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation

The Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation held its Congress in Tunis on 28 February, one day before the Mediterranean Cup. Dr. Maurizio Lo Buono, the President of the MWC gave a details report to the delegations and expressed his appreciation regarding the record number of the participating countries. 14 MFs participated in the Congress: ALG, BIH, FRA, EGY, ESP, GRE, ITA, LBA, MAR, MLT, SLO, SRB, TUN, TUR. Among other topics, the delegates discussed some changes for the future and confirmed that the next Cup will be organized in Italy.
