IWF President assumes Honorary position in NOC

On 7th May this year, Dr. Tamás Aján was reelected for the fifth Olympic cycle as Secretary General of the Hungarian National Olympic Committee. In December 2005, Dr. Aján resigned from this job and assumed the position of Honorary Secretary General of the Hungarian NOC, while he continues to be the President of the Hungarian Olympic Academy. In the future it will allow Dr. Aján to focus more on his numerous important international duties, i.a. President of the International Weightlifting Federation, Member of the International Olympic Committee and Member of two IOC Commissions, Vice President of GAISF and Member of the WADA Foundation

Weightlifting Competition Manager for Beijing 2008 Confirmed

We are happy and proud to note that Ms WANG Yan has been confirmed to be the Weightlifting Competition Manager for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. 2006 Worlds to be included in Olympic Qualification Process

The IWF Executive Board decided to extend the range of competitions counting as Qualification Events for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games by including the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships. Thus, teams participating in the 2006 Worlds to be held 31 October to 9 November 2006, may collect points for Olympic slots already in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. However, the 2007 World Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, also keeps its character as the Main Qualification Event. The IWF hopes, on the one hand, to boost the participation in both world events, on the other hand, to relieve some of the pressure from the 2007 Qualification World Championships. Details of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Qualification System will soon be published, following finalization and co-ordination with the IOC. Undisputed Reza still Champion

Undisputed world champion of +105 weight category,Reza Zadeh Hossein of Iran, maintained his title on the last day of the 74th Men World Weightlifting Championship with a total lift of 461 kilogrames four kilos ahead of Russian Chigishev Evgeny who lifted a total 457 kilogrames. Host nation, Qatar picked the bronze medal with a total lift of 446 through Salem Jaber Saed. Though no record were broken, the Iranian failed to defend his title in the snatch Category, when he fell behind Russian Chigishev Evgeny by a kilo, who snatched 211, while Reza snatched 210 with Salem Jaber Saed snatching 201 to pick the bronze. Reza made attempts at setting a new record in the Clean and Jerk but dropped on his way as he failed to lift 263 kilogrames which could have seen him creating a new record in total.
