World records fell at the European Championships

At the 85th Men's and 19th Women's European Championships held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Polish Weightlifting Federation, the Continent's lifters took a very powerful start this year. The women's fields were clearly dominated by the Russian lifters who won the team classification by an enormous margin. Among the men, Belarus came out as the surprise winner, preceding Russia by 27 points. The first world records of the year fell in Wladyslawowo: Svetlana Shimkova (RUS) improved the Clean and Jerk world record to 141kg in the Women's 63kg categoryAndrei Rybakou (BLR) set a new Snatch world record in the Men?s 85kg with 186kgLocal favourite, Marcin Dolega (POL) also managed to lift a new world record, also in Snatch in the 105kg:

9th University World Championships

The Turkish Weightlifting Federation will welcome the academic student-weightlifters once again in Izmir, for the 9th edition of the University World Championships. Invitations, the Regulation and Entry Forms have been sent to the National Federations. The Technical Congress is on 29th June, and the competitions will run from 30th June to 2nd July 2006. Experienced and excellent organisers, the Turkish hosts will offer outstanding competition and accommodation facilities to participants. IWF INTERNATIONAL coaching-, referee-, medical and administration SYMPOSIUM 1st -4th March 2007 IWF hereby invites its National Member Federations to the Symposium. Place: Italy, Villa Mondragone (Rome) Arrival Date: 1st March 2007 Departure Date: 4th March 2007 Conditions: -IWF covers the participation of only 1 person per National Federation for 3 nights with meal for 4 days (every additional participant/Federation shall be covered by their respective NF); -Travel costs shall be covered by the NFs; -The details of the program will be released later and more information will be available during the Junior World Ch. in China (international experts will give lectures); -The lectures will be translated simultaneously into english/french/russian/spanish; We invite all our affiliated members to participate on the
