Invitations to IWF Congress in Santo Domingo

Invitations to National Federation delegates for the IWF Annual Congress 2006 in Santo Domingo, 29 September, have been sent by mail and are now available on this website, alongside with the Official Timetable of all meetings and competitions. Delegates are requested to confirm their participation as well as submit their arrival-departure details to both the Dominican Organizing Committee and the IWF by means of the Congress Delegates' Participation Form.National Federations which have not yet sent their Final Entries are now strongly advised to do so, as the deadlines are

Izmir: Another proof of organisation excellence

Representatives of 35 nations from all five continents left Izmir, Turkey, with pleasant memories and satisfaction, having completed the 9th edition of the World Cup for University and College Students. The Turks once again proved their excellence both as hosts and organisers, and as athletes. A work force headed by Dr. Hasan Akkus, President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation, with the strong support of the General Directorate of Youth and Sport and the City of Izmir staged excellent Championships in the new Halkapinar Sport Centre during three busy days on 30th June, 1st and 2nd of July. Among the women, SHU Jiean of China, lifting in the 63kg category and reaching a 233-kg total was awarded the 'Best Lifter Trophy'. In the men's field home boy BINAY Mete (69kg) scored the absolute best result by any standard and duly deserved the 'Best Lifter Trophy' offered by the AIPS Weightlifting Commission. Record turnout expected at University Worlds

Thirty countries are sending their athletes to the 9th World University Championships in Izmir, Turkey, starting tomorrow. Among the 46 female and 92 male competitors Olympic and world championships are to compete. Competitions will run Friday to Sunday in the new Halkapinar Sports Hall. Nominate Technical Officials to Santo Domingo!

National Federations can send their nominations for Technical Officials (jury, referees, doctors, technical controllers) for selection to work at the 2006 Olympic Qualification World Championships in Santo Domingo, DOM. 43 Weightlifters win Olympic Scholarship

The IOC Olympic Solidarity allocated its Olympic Scholarships for Athletes ?Beijing 2008? and as many as 43 weightlifters are among the awardees. The primary aim of the Olympic Scholarship is for the athlete to qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games and it includes an important subvention on a monthly basis, providing for an effective and smooth preparation of the athlete from now until the 2008 Olympic Games. Much to the IWF?s pleasure, in each Olympic cycle more and more weightlifters apply for and are granted such financial assistance (the procedure is application through the NOC).
